I decided to split boot and installed Mint and attempted to play Forza Horizon 5. It literally runs like a potato. Also my Logitech steering wheel doesn't work and has major input lag.

Serious answer: because Vaxry (Hyprland owner) didn't want to wait for Wayland protocols to be approved by the big players (but more likely vetoed by GNOME and Weston), and made his own implementations with blackjack and hookers. He even made his own xdg-desktop-portal implementation to get screen recording to work.
