Which is why I call everyone "bro."
I'm a 37 year old woman.
51 0 ReplyI call everyone baby. Young? Baby. Old? Baby. Man, woman, black, white, purple with green polka dots? "What's up, baby? How are you?" I'm a middle aged white guy.
There's a 60-odd year old black guy that comes to one of the bars I frequent. I always greet him with "What's up, baby?" He always says "Same old, baby, how you doin'?" I have no idea how that became normal because it feels so weird explaining it but it feels super normal saying it.

Bro I feel you, dude.
11 0 ReplyI feel you, homie
10 0 ReplyI gave someone some somewhat joking advice to use "dogs" as a gender neutral alternative to "guys". I ended up trying it just for fun and it stuck.

My dad started texting koo in the mid 00s, meaning "cool"
It wasn't koo then and isn't koo now but I use it almost daily.

16 0 ReplyI don't know if it even really counts as slang, but this happened to me and some buddies I played Rocket League with. Some guy kept spamming "Siiiick" in the quick chat for the littlest things, so we'd spam it back 3x as hard. Long story short, we still use it now like 7 or 8 years later.
15 0 ReplyI'll say "What a save!" when my group screws up or loses because you can take me out of rocket league but you can't take rocket league out of me.
6 0 ReplyI switched from what a save to this is rocket league because people have weak mentals and will give up and or throw the game if you what a save them lol

12 0 ReplyDon't worry about your slag being dated, embrace it! Who cares that yeet is cringe af fam?
10 0 Reply"Yeet" is still in my slang. As is "af". I also use "Dope" and "Sick" a lot to mean cool. I also use "hella"
8 0 ReplyI assume you're closer to 30 than 20 lol
3 0 ReplyHella and rizz are the only two slang words I've never liked in my 28 years.

The real joy of growing up is using slang without giving half a damn whether it's dated. Let them cringe, if they must.
4 0 ReplyFor me that's just a contraction, so if you'd use the entire thing then you can use the contractions.

No one uses much 1930s and 1940s Hep Cat slang anymore and that's a real shame because Cab Calloway went out of his way to promote it.

Sure, people still use "salty" to mean angry about something, but when was the last time you heard someone "creeping out like the shadow?"
10 0 ReplyI love this link.
Considering it's coming up pretty close to being a century old, I'm actually surprised how much of this has made it into the common lexicon.
I feel like even the etymology on capped could be interesting and maybe share a common source with modern cap.

I refuse to succumb to "yeet." Is it still around much?
9 0 ReplyIt's just a synonym for throwing something now
17 0 ReplyThrowing suddenly and imprecisely. You wouldn't call a baseball pitch a yeet.
7 0 Reply
No, it isn't.
9 0 ReplyYeet has been yote

I once heard it described as a verb tense of "yoink" and that made me feel a lot better about it slipping into my regular usage.
I'm still cheugy af tho, according to my 26 year old roommate, so maybe don't take advice from me.
Take it easy, homeslice xx
4 0 ReplyAs far as I know it's the opposite of yoink.
Yoink = taking something quite aggressively. Yeet = throwing about something.
