I went to a board game convention a month ago, it was the first time I've girlmoded for something major. They put their own signs over the bathroom signs explaining that both were gender neutral and the only difference was urinals vs stalls. That made it soooo much easier on me and I was very glad
I'm a dude and i want stalls every time. I HATE pissing in a urinal next to a bunch of other people and get piss splashed on everything. So so so many bacteria.
There are well-designed urinals now that don't splash back. Add to that, If there's a divider, then the urinal is convenient, quicker and imo cleaner because you don't have to touch the stall door or lock to close it and you're not pissing on the seat or sitting down. It's literally no-contact
In my experience public toilets are so badly maintained that I'd rather avoid touching any porcelain besides that of the sink. That's one of the main reasons I go for urinals. It's also often the most direct way to achieve my objectives if my only goal is to urinate, unless there are other people in which case I hover around waiting for one urinal to become less crowded or just use a stall if it doesn't look disgusting.
Indeed, I'm a furry and a few conventions I go to, even in red states, have temporary rebranding of the bathrooms to gender neutral for the duration of the convention as a requirement that the Hotel must maintain in order to keep the convention's business.
And since furries are either suspiciously wealthy or poor, but dedicated, it's a wise economic decision for said Hotel.
I don't think only gender neutral bathrooms is the way to go. There should be an all gender bathroom and a woman's bathroom. Unfortunately we live in a world where women may still feel understandably uncomfortable with men in the bathroom with them.
Note: To be clear I'm not saying the women's bathroom should be for cis women only, it should only exclude men.
My son goes to a gender neutral school, my daughter goes to a gender neutral daycare, I work in a gender neutral office, and shop at gender neutral shops.
It drives me crazy to see a single occupancy bathroom in a public space labeled as gender neutral... Just say bathroom... Or even worse they went out of the way to change it from bathroom to gender neutral... Looking at you taco bell...
Gendered bathrooms should not need to exist because bathrooms should have some dammed privacy.
In the US, there’s a door for boys and one for girls. Behind each is a giant room with some sinks and some toilets that may as well be using cardboard and tinfoil for privacy.
Go somewhere more pleasant like Sweden? You have a short hallway with 3 or 4 doors on each side, and behind each is a small restroom including a sink and a mirror.
Every real and maga-hallucinated bathroom problem largely solved.
I love the idea behind gender neutral bathrooms, but I really wish they weren't just a band-aid on the problem that is disgusting American bathrooms.
I didn't realize how much better it could be until I went to Japan. Floor to ceiling walls, doors with curvature where the door and wall meet completely eliminating door gap, buttons to play music or water sounds...wtf America. Might as well be pissing in a prison in some bathrooms here.
And if you wanna save money on too many sinks and such there is already a solution for that. Many places have the sink and mirror outside the bathroom and shared between both gendered bathrooms.
If you want to save time, money, and water, one of my favorite venues has toilets that have sinks on top of them so the water used to wash hands is collected in the tank as grey water to flush the toilet.
It's pretty great. It took over the spot of a gay bar in town which had evolved to be more of a general bar while being explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly. They had to shut down for various reasons. I/O took it over and has largely continued being LGBTQ+ friendly, but now with more pinball tables and old arcade games.
The fact public places need to explicitely say they are LGBT friendly makes our society feel dystopian. It's as if they had to say they are black people friendly or Jew friendly.
I don't know if it's the reason, or just a side effect, but I'm pretty sure it prevents a bunch of sexual assault, or at least makes some people feel safer.
I feel like that's the only justification I've ever really heard, but I find it to be rather flimsy. It assumes that someone willing to assault someone else would be deterred by a sign. It also assumes that assaults only happen across genders and not within, which is either very narrow-minded or willfully obstinate.
Personally, I would think individual unisex bathrooms that each contain their own sink would be the safest option. You enter fully aware and lock the door behind yourself, only leaving once you are fully aware and alert again. Given that the common area between stalls is essentially public, you could have cameras observing the entrance without invading privacy and capturing anyone attempting to force their way in or tailgate someone entering a stall. Better, safer, gender neutral.
I can understand how "get rid of gender neutral bathrooms" is though-provoking intellectual discussion to you, but I've already considered that reactionary perspective enough to reject it.
Overhyped. i don't like the comment above. they make it seem like a big thing. i don like these kinds of posts..
when a post has "absolute legend" as the title, that reads to me like a youtube title like "We DESTROYED <popular thing> FOREVER!" or "This EASY trick is a GAME CHANGER". gooooddddd (im in complain mode now sorrii)
