It gave me Burlington. #1 listened artist last year: The Beastie Boys. I sometimes think its less artificial intelligence and more a random number picker.
This headline broke my brain. I know what Spotify is but not "Spotify Wrapped" so I kept reading it like my Spotify had wrapped something but "Place" next to it just would not compute.
Curious what's in your top artists? I have The Midnight, Kalax, Timecop1984, and other Retrowave/Synthwave type music and got Seattle, but I live near Portland.
I got Burlington! I'm not gay as far as I'm aware but whenever someone asks me what kind of music I like in the future, the answer will be "gay music".
Bozeman, MT for me, apparently because I listen to a fair bit of Jason Isbell and other new-ish alt-country and Americana. Despite the fact that none of my top 5 artists are alt country, the rest of my listening is apparently eclectic enough that nothing else really came close.
I would have thought that having 60-70% of my listening all in a small cluster of esoteric doom-metal-related subgenres would have placed me somewhere with some sort of a metal scene, but apparently not.
It's kind of interesting to see all the weird correlations Spotify has pulled out of thin air. Apparently Fort Collins listens to a lot of Sleep Token, Brandi Carlile, and Jacob Collier.
Yeah, I guess I could have said their name lol. Boysetsfire. I think they're from Delaware originally. They were political melodic hardcoreish at the beginning so I still jam their first few records hard. But they have a huge following in Germany.
Technically bi (though my tastes lean gay), I was put in Glasgow for listening to a lot of Steps and CHVRCHES... Given that Glasgow was on the running to host the Gay Olympics this year I guess it could be a close equivalent?
Pittsburgh here too! Mine is because of from ashes to new, beartooth, and point north. An interesting selection I didn't even realize I've been listening to
I have an account that was used for very limited streaming to a couple of artists. Spotify placed it at Estonia for some reason. None of the artists I listened to are even close to the general area.
Oh ok. Either way, I don't think any of my top artists has a lot of fans there. lol. But if spotify says so, then so be it.
Edit: I use that account to test music from artists that I manage the distribution for. So I can literally see the demographics of listeners from the distribution platform and Estonia is not even in the top 20 of countries where listeners come from.
No, I don't feel foolish for having basically humanity's entire music library available to me on a service.
When I used to pirate off SoulSeek I was a lot more limited in what I listened to, but Spotify is more than just a music service as it acts as a reliable way to discover new and old music to your liking.
Piracy is a service problem, and Spotify is a good service.
I got Eugene, OR, which seemed pretty accurate. Seattle, where I actually live, seems more accurate, but I guess not. For anyone curious, my most listened genres were alternative rock, rock, post grunge....
