  • As someone who militantly refuses to wear it to work, I appreciate it as an artistic and stylistic choice. It’s never a tool to hide my face or imperfections but rather to express myself at times. And yes sometimes it makes me feel powerful, much in the same way a dress cut just right for my body makes me feel powerful or wearing steel toe boots into a business meeting makes me feel powerful.

The problem is the expectation of it. If you can’t treat people with respect whether or not we wear it that’s on you.

  • There is hillbilly Ohio. Huntington is just across the border and even in Columbus you get a lot of refugees from Appalachia, including my girlfriend. But he’s from fucking Middletown. I’m from the Dayton area with a grandparent who grew up in West Virginia myself, but given that one of my partners grew up in part in rural Tennessee, and even my ex in Lexington was far more Appalachian than I could ever be, I understand that I’m not someone who can claim this.

What gets to me is how Middletown does give him a sob story. It’s been hit hard by the decline of the rust belt. Like, it’s rough by Dayton standards. But he doesn’t want to acknowledge that the money ghouls destroyed his home state

  • 77% Of Employees Report AI Has Increased Workloads And Hampered Productivity, Study Finds
  • And are those use cases common and publicized? Because I see it being advertised as “improves productivity” for a novel tool with myriad uses I expect those trying to sell it to me to give me some vignettes and not to just tell my boss it’ll improve my productivity. And if I was in management I’d want to know how it’ll do that beyond just saying “it’ll assist in easy and menial tasks”. Will it be easier than doing them? Many tools can improve efficiency on a task at a similar time and energy investment to the return. Are those tasks really so common? Will other tools be worse?

  • Complete combustion of hydrocarbons is difficult and usually requires specialized equipment for that hydrocarbon. A fireplace is probably for wood (I assume nobody here is throwing cooking oil into a gas fireplace), but it’s not even good at that. Cooking oil will spatter and polymerize

  • No actions will be sufficient to undo the harm, but there are actions that can demonstrate change and shift the balance of harm to help away from where it is. Her actions are like with climate change, what’s done is done and there are consequences that can’t be avoided, but it still is worth doing a full 180

  • I should give up on HRT Right
  • Picture isn’t loading for me, but based on the comments you may be experiencing body dysmorphia. Sometimes as hrt takes its effect dysphoria becomes dysmorphia. And the biggest thing to understand is that dysmorphia doesn’t reflect reality and it doesn’t respond to pharmaceutical treatments, but it does respond to therapy. Try seeking a trans friendly therapist who deals in it. Speaking as a trans woman who has a different kind of body dysmorphia (I struggle to believe I’m skinny) it’s a real struggle and self hate doesn’t help, it just leads you to self destructive responses.

  • Like he’s right that Middletown is a shithole. But it’s a location devastated by collapse of the rust belt. It’s basically a suburb of a suburb of fucking dayton. The people of Middletown aren’t lazy, they’re desperate and they’re tired.

I don’t know how he managed to become a senator here, he clearly fucking hates Ohioans.

  • Mom didn't go to school
  • That’s terrible. You really deserved better. I was very fortunate as a child that my father actually did math problems with me on my bedroom whiteboard before bedtime stories as a little kid.

And yeah the further you get into math the more science not only is explained by it but the more science makes it make sense. Calculus was a nightmare until I took physics and suddenly I could tie these abstract concepts and numbers to phenomena I’ve experienced my whole life, and with that more generalized understanding math gave I could extend it further and to less intuitive things.

A lot of people are really bad at teaching math. For some people it just clicks and they often struggle to understand why it isn’t easy for everyone. And a lot of people learn to dread it, when it’s definitely something many people have an uncomfortable history with, but it’s really not scary, it just takes thinking a bit differently. It also doesn’t help that a lot of people, especially from older generations, were taught math by memorization instead of by investigation. And a lot of teachers below the high school level (and even many math teachers there) don’t really get why they’re teaching what they’re teaching and have a general dread of it. Rules and properties seem simple and pointless when you learn them because they’re easy to demonstrate there, but as you go further suddenly it does start to matter things like how you can move numbers without changing the answer. But for someone who more likely wanted to be teaching children things like reading and writing and probably took algebra if that in college they didn’t really understand why things they need to teach need to be taught, and they may not understand why they need to teach things like number sense.

One other great tool is visual representations. Small candies like m&ms are the classic example, but basically moving things around in accordance to equations is an effective tool for building a sense of arithmetic and a baseline understanding of how real numbers work (real numbers just means numbers that you can actually have that many of a thing). And fractions while scary to many people are just a division problem you decided not to do

  • Attempting to use Home Assistant OS

But I’ve been getting this error:

[supervisor.docker.interface] Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/generic-x86-64-homeassistant:2024.4.4: 500 Server Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.44/images/create?tag=2024.4.4&fromImage=ghcr.io%2Fhome-assistant%2Fgeneric-x86-64-homeassistant&platform=linux%2Famd64: Internal Server Error ("Get "https://ghcr.io/v2/": net/http: request canceled while waiting for connection (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)") [supervisor.homeassistant.core] Error on Home Assistant installation. Retrying in 30sec

I’ve tried changing DNS, but it didn’t help and I seem to get no other helpful results from searching. If anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate it as this seems to be something my home could benefit from but it’s just not loading beyond the CLI
