Stop Killing Games has opened a European Citizens' Initiative proposing new law that would make game publishers have to leave games in a playable state when they stop supporting them.

This comes after a sea of games have been lost due to the creators turning off the servers. While community remake projects like RELB for Lawbreakers, Loadout Reloaded and a server emulator for The Crew exist, they're miles behind where we'd be if publishers just released a way to host our own servers before killing their creations. They need more signatures from European citizens and then the proposal goes to a board who decide what to do with it.

Custom Starfield Elite v2 Controller

Heya together. I was fancing the official Xbox Starfield controller but I'm so used to paddles, that I can't play with a regular controller anymore. I then stumbled upon a shell for the Elite V2 Controller. I walked the extra mile and replaced the thumbstick base for a red one and I also ordered two sets of paddles and circle pads. I'm still on the hunt for opaque trigger.

How do you like the result and what version do you prefer, the burnt metal one or the brass/ gold one?

Any advice for further improvements? I know, the backside should be red but I can't find a matching one.

Selaco source code request

Selaco is a first person shooter on the GZDoom engine. It's currently for sale on Steam and in early access.

The GPL source code is included with the game. I'm not interested in playing the game but I am curious about the source. Can someone upload/mirror it for me somewhere? It doesn't seem to be on GitHub yet.

(Obviously this is legal, it's the very point of the GPL - GZDoom is free to build upon but under the condition that those freedoms are retained)

If you like TF2, sign in the petition #FixTF2 #SaveTF2

A couple of years ago, the TF2 community came together with the #SaveTF2 movement, which managed to get a reaction from Valve but little more than that. The game has gotten some bug fixes, VScript support and 64-bit builds, but there's been no action taken against the true problem -- the bot crisis. This timeless masterpiece has been plagued by cheater bots in its casual matchmaking mode for over 5 years, making it frustratingly hard to play, without resorting to community servers. VAC is a complete joke and the lack of response from Valve is deplorable, for a game that is otherwise well known for making great games.

For the past few weeks, lots of content creators have been posting calls to action, investigations (such as the great two parter from Zesty) and opinions, all culminating in a main effort: the save.tf petition. At the moment, it's approaching 200k signatures! If you appreciate the game, help us out by signing the petition :D

Damnatory Arbitration

Came back to the game after a year or so, just to see this:

!Shows how to opt-out

At least they let us disagree to the ToC. Not sure if I can play the game after that though, since I just exited after clicking the disagree button.

Also, at least they show us the changes on the top, so we know what happened.

Sharing this video because this game is seriously an underrated gem, I can't recommend it enough. Love supporting an indie dev with such a unique concept.

"Dominion of Darkness" - simulator of the Dark Lord/Lady

adeptus7.itch.io "Dominion of Darkness" - interactive fiction, story of the Dark Lord by Adeptus7

Text-based Simulator of the Dark Lord/Lady. Use your armies, cunning and magic to conquer Free Peoples.

"Dominion of Darkness" - interactive fiction, story of the Dark Lord by Adeptus7

(I am an author of this game. I am not a shill, game is 100% free, there is no premium content, full game is avalaible without paying - this is work of passion and feedback is my main motivation).

"Dominion of Darknessā€ is a strateg/RPG text game in which the player takes on the role of a Sauron-style Lord of Darkness with the goal of conquering the world. He will carry out his plans by making various decisions. He will build his army and send it into battles, weave intrigues and deceptions, create secret spy networks and sectarian cults, recruit agents and commanders, corrupt representatives of Free Peoples and sow discord among them, collect magical artifacts and perform sinister plots. Note ā€“ one game takes about 1 hour, but the premise is that the game can be approached several times, each time making different decisions, getting different results and discovering something new.

Game is avalaible for free, online: https://adeptus7.itch.io/dominion

I am constantly improving the game, adding new content and mechanics, so Your feedback would matter.

If you are hesitant to play the game, I invite you to watch/listen to the reviews:

Two Similar Games?

I am an avid horror gamer, and Iā€™ve been curious if From The Darkness and Wrong Floor are one of the same games, or developed by a different person. I noticed it looks the same, but it starts off a bit differently. I just find it weird and confusing but also cool.

I remember watching one of the streamers I watch, back in 2023 Halloween where she played From The Darkness, the game in which you take place in an apartment and go up die stairs because the elevator broke or something.

I recently remembered this because I have From The Darkness in my Steam Wishlist.

Milsim(-ish) games against AI?

Insurgency Sandstorm got me hooked. I've now played over 500 hours against bots and it's still a lot of fun.

Are there any comparable milsim(-ish) games against AI?

  • PC
  • I'm not interested in PVP
  • ARMA is great but for me more cramp than fun
  • Ground Branch feels more like a tech demo

Do you have any tips for me? They don't have to be brand new games either.

So, without further ado, here are the trailers. Names in bold are new releases, the rest are updates to existing games:

How Chinaā€™s first AAA game Wukong Became One of the Fastest Selling Games in History
  • I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly, the prerequisite for a video game to be a "runaway success" is to do well sales-wise in the west? Why is the source of sales that important when the article mainly praises and discusses the game's launch figures, behind-the-scenes, the studio's lore, etc.... like any other video game articles do? The author isn't suggesting the sales are doing well in the west, so what warrants discussion of the games' sales in the west in the first place?

The article's headline alone says it's "One of the Fastest Selling Games In History". If we take the revenue value in the article to be true ($852 million in revenue in 2 weeks), then it beats Elden Ring by around a $100 million, give or take, in the first 2-week period (I'm assuming each copy costed 59.99$, so 12 million copies roughly translates to $720 million in revenue, since actual figures were never revealed, I think).

The article also states that it sold 10 million units in the first week, oh wait actually, that's 10 million in 3 days, beating other games that took at least a month to reach a similar milestone.

  • How Chinaā€™s first AAA game Wukong Became One of the Fastest Selling Games in History
  • Fun fact: Swastika's are actually allowed for artistic and similar purposes, but in the 90's a dodgy ruling did not consider this exception. The reasoning was the same as 'playing violent games make you violent' . The court feared growing up with those symbols would normalize them.

The ban got revoked in 2018

So yeah, we were kinda behind the times, but it's getting better.

  • Black Myth: Wukong is one of the best-selling games of all time
  • So you think the idea of humans as personal property was a Western invention that specifically the East Asians didn't engage in?

Slavery has occurred in nearly every society throughout human history, the abnormality which is unique to chattel slavery is the legal system that evolved to protect the owners right in totality. Even in ancient examples that most closely resemble the chattel slavery practiced in the Americas, there were still social contracts that prevented the enslaved from the levels of dire abuse African slaves experienced in the Americas.

Are you arguing that Asian slavery is better because slaves occasionally had rights?

Are you claiming that all slavery is equally bad? That being an indentured servant is the same as chattel slavery? Seems like a pretty convenient attitude for someone who is trying to distance themselves from the largest example of chattel slavery in recorded history.

think the slaves of the Khmer might disagree with you most recently.

Lol, once again equating two totally separate societies and cultures as the same because racist from hundreds of years ago labeled anyone east of turkey as Asian. Cambodia is in South East Asia......

It's crazy how you don't see that trying to justify your position with race science is in fact racist. What exactly do you believe validates your examples of Arab slave trade and the Khmer being pertinent to a conversation about East Asia?

well known the Tang dynasty in China kept Western slaves.

Lol, no it really isn't. You are utilizing your preconceptions about skin color and projecting it to a misinterpretation of a mystical story from the 9th century.

When someone from the tang dynasty is speaking about "westerns" they aren't talking about Europeans, the Arab world, or Africa. They are usually referring to places immediately west of China or West China. In the case of the Kunlun, they are more than likely talking about modern day Malaysia and Cambodia.

Here is a good breakdown of the Kunlun in China, with sources.

Again, you are applying your preconceptions of racial science to a people that predated it, and have a vastly different understanding of things like skin color. The Kunlun weren't all slaves, and the type of slavery that did happen was no where close to chattel slavery.

This is a great example of racism in action. You are generalizing an entire continent, the one with a majority of the world's population, and conflating them to be the same peoples based on criteria that was developed by racial science. The reason this debate has gotten so misconstrued is because the system you utilize to categorize ethnic groups isn't based on any legitimate or logical basis.

Racism is prejudice applied through the lens of racial science. There's a similar prejudice that occurs in ethnic prejudice, that can lead to similarly devastating results as racism, but usually on a much smaller scale.

Racial prejudice isn't based on any real criteria that can be consistently measured or predicted. Which can lead to people classifying an entire Continent of people as the same and lesser than. Instead of a conflict between two rival ethnic groups, it can lead to things like the Scramble for Africa.

I don't know how you can't see that as being relevant, and I honestly don't know why you have a problem with me utilizing a more correct terminology. Utilizing ethnic prejudice is correct when race isnt a factor. Is this the first time you've heard of the terminology, or do you think it's never appropriate? Why do you think both terms are used in academia if you don't think there's a delineation between the two?

  • Single player RPG
  • I liked Knights of Pen and Paper which is a turn based RPG in which your characters are Tabletop Players

  • Single player RPG
  • Exiled Kingdoms - it's a labor-of-love project inspired by classic 90s RPGs. I've played through it a few times, it's solid.

  • Black Myth: Wukong is one of the best-selling games of all time
  • It's a good action with some souls mechanics (not a soulslike though), crazy good graphics, bosses and enemy variety. Should also be decently optimized for pc

Plot wise is basically a fan sequel of Journey to the west. If you aren't familiar with that don't expect to understand shit about what's going on.

The only real tangible issue is mediocre map design (very simplistic and linear) and (some say) some balancing issues.

In short, if you enjoy 3d actions and/or souls you'll probably have you money's worth.

  • Positives:

I'm loving the music so far, really awesome chiptunes, great vibes. I love the fast paced movement and combat, and responsive controls. I'm not sure how much patience I'll have for the precision platforming, but it feels really well done.

    Suggestions:

-Default controls for the controller weren't my favorite. It's great that customizing them is super easy. I'd suggest these for the defaults: screenshot

-I noticed that the defaults for 'scroll right' and 'scroll left' weren't working with the right stick. I don't know if this could be because I changed the defaults, but setting up these two controls to the corrosponding d-pad buttons fixed it.

-Replace the Reddit link with a Lemmy one instead?

  • When will they learn? When will they learn, that their actions have consequences?
  • For those out the loop (probably everyone since no one plays this game it seems) this is Concord by Sony, which after years of dev hell launched two days ago as an online game, but has yet to break 700 players online at a time SteamDB Source. In contrast the four year old, often called abandoned, Red Dead Online has more players during off-peak SteamDB Source

  • It signifies that chinese made games about chinese/buddhist mythology will be incredibly popular in China.

People go nuts for soulsclones regardless but given that this is probably the very first chinese mythology soulslike with professional production values no one should be at all surprised that it sells in China and abroad. Also the fact that it's cheaper than china than any other region on earth is certainly a factor in it's sales.

As of right now, of it's overall 354,187 steam reviews, only 14,757 are in english.

Keep in mind that the US and Western Europe combined have about a third of China's population.
