Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who voted twice to convict former President Trump on impeachment charges, is ruling out voting for Trump in 2024, citing a court’s finding that the former president sexua…
Romney is a never Trumper, this wasn’t the last straw. He is one of the few Republicans in office who has been calling Trump out on all his shady past and present ever since he started campaigning for the 2016 election.
... Most of the time. Okay, at least some of the time. Which gives him an overwhelming lead against the entire rest of the Republican pack who are aggressively opposed to the concept of ethics in general
It's always amazing where some Republicans draw the line. Overt racism? Bizarre incoherence? Trying to overturn an election with a riot? Spousal assault previously documented in court? Paying off prostitutes with campaign money? Trying to use federal foreign aid money to start a fake smear campaign on an opponent? Calling up state election officials and pressuring them to create a bullshit election investigation? Politicizing public health because you're vain about your weird makeup? Mocking disabled people? Having Russian officials over to the White House and destroying the translator's notes? Saying things about women like "bleeding out of her whatever"? Demonstrating a pattern of fraudulent accounting for decades? No problem. But this ONE thing, that's too much.
It's easy to find Romney supporting something you agree with, because he's taken both sides of most issues. He seems reasonable now in comparison to Trump and the MAGA dipshits, but that's a really low bar we should ignore.
Changing your mind can be a good thing, if your decision is based on new facts and a change in public opinion.
Changing your mind because wealthy doners tell you to is not.
I honestly don't care to dive into Romneys past enough to figure out which is which. But changing one's mind over a lifetime in politics is probably a good thing.
Almost like he's a conservative. Not a Republican but picked a party because you have to if you want your votes/political career to go anywhere. It would be fair to say both conservatives and liberals alike do not appreciate sexual assault / rape. The Republican party just closed it's eyes or looks away because it will hit their political strength to acknowledge all the scumbags in their party
Damn, remember when he was one of the "evil" ones? Now look at us, almost taking his side and desperately hoping a new wave Republican doesn't summon an incubus as their running mate.
Well, only after they've checked out of politics. Romney was republican tumor in the colon of the government that decided to detach and get shit out. If tumors this large are just deciding to fall out, this is beyond stage 4.
I mean if he publicly says he wouldn’t vote for Trump but then actually does, that would be a hell of a lot more beneficial for Biden than saying he supported Trump and then secretly not voting for him.
Seriously, just how deep does the cult programming go that it takes SO MUCH for cons to even SAY that they won't vote for this monster?
And, FFS, why do they have to be so cagey about it? Most of them either say they are going wait and see, etc., or that they'll vote third party. That's not really better. They need to come right out and say it - tiny d is a monster and supporting him is supporting fascism and they are voting Democratic.
That’s the disqualification??? lol. Republicans are just handmaidens for fascism at this point. Democrats are handmaidens for oligarchy. And before anyone jumps in to defend some of Biden’s very good pro labor positions/policies/staff selections; yes, I know. But if the NLRB is dismantled by the SC, all of it will be for nothing.
I'll never forget when Romney was speaking to an audience of supporters when he was running against Obama, and someone asked about Obama being a foreigner with a fake birth certificate. Romney very gently assured the woman that Obama was an American, and would make a great president even though they disagreed on policies. It's that kind of professionalism that we need to bring back to politics today.
That was definitely McCain doing it. However Romney did call out Russia being our greatest threat still and Obama mocked him in the debate for it. 2 years later they “annexed” Crimea and 10 years later they cause the largest war in Europe. Obama failed on international policy regarding a lot of “enemies” and either underestimating them or treating them with kid gloves in the hope of improving relations.
