I keep switching apps all the time. Right now, I'm trying out Wefwef vs Thunder. They are very similar and I really like both. However, I think I slightly prefer Thunder. It feels a little bit more fluent to me, as it is a native app and it comes with a few more options, like being able to put the thumbnail on the right. I really like that because now I can open pictures without opening the comments. It also does a few things a little bit more sensible in my opinion, esspecially the back button. For instance, in Thunder the back button does what I expect it to do. But in Wefwef It is a bit buggy as it often goes back on the background, without closing a full screen image first.
The theming also feels a but more at home on Android, while still being very similar.
Both are great options though and both have it's pro's and cons. I'm also trying out Pulse for Squabbles (so not Lemmy), which is also very neat and very similar. Makes the experiences a bit more consistent.
I'm also waiting for both Sync and Boost. I'm really curious in how both of those Ferdiverse versions turn out.
Wefwef right now. I have been pretty pleased with it. Not sure who the the developer it but damn they’ve been rolling out updates daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. I don’t think the person is sleeping at this point.
I forgot I installed Jerboa because it didn't work at first (instances not being up to date gave errors), but this comment made me hop onto that to compare to Liftoff.
Not gonna lie, I don't know what kind of dark magic wefwef pulled through, but it is the first web app I actually find as performant a a native app. It may not be for me (not a big fan of iphone aesthetics), but it is wonderful.
I recently swapped from IPhone to Android and thought I'd lost the slickness of Apollo forever.
Then Wefwef came along. It's nowhere near as smooth as the original Apollo app (at least via Android's Firefox browser), but it's got all the same vibes and makes me feel like I'm back in that same experience again.
My only complaint with Connect is that I'm using the dark theme, and so having a big white "refreshed" bar show up when I pull down my feed is jarring. I like jerboa's cute spinny wheel better.
WefWef app on Android. It's been pretty great and seeing it get updates every day with new improvements is nice.
I switched back to Android right before Apollo came out so I never had experience with that. This is supposedly just like it with fewer features. Even so, I can see why people loved Apollo so much if it resembled WefWef even slightly.
It's nearly EXACTLY like Apollo. Installed on my Home Screen and put where the Apollo icon was. (Apollo moved to a special folder to commemorate its memory.) You guys, I've got to be honest, I didn't think Lemmy was going to work out for me, but with wefwef, I don't feel like I'm missing a beat. Looking forward to Lemmy and the fediverse continuing to grow!
Wefwef. It's incredibly polished and fast, especially for a webapp. It runs circles around new reddit performance wise, even with the servers being a raspi trampled by a horde of reddit refugees
It could use some UI/UX work though. For example, if I want to go to a comment I replied to from my profile, rif had a handy button to show my comment with context. On Jerboa I need to go to my comment with a couple unintuitive taps, then the context of that comment with another button that doesn't really feel like it's in the right place.
None have been published to the App Store yet, right? All just in test flight I believe. Just trying to confirm that because I can’t find them the normal way.
I have Memmy, Liftoff, Mlem and wefwef. Like the interfaces of Mlem and wefwef the best so far. One app doesn’t have it all yet and if there’s a hang up with one I can try another!
I think it's okay to keep discussing this because the app situation is very much in flux at the moment. I'm on Jerboa because it's the best native app I've found that plays nice with a folding phone and Samsung DeX. My requirements are simple, but they are niche. I'm keeping an eye on a few other apps though because while Jerboa is great as it is there are improvements to be found.
Liftoff - my current app of choice. It's very fast, supports the gestures I need, and while it lacks a bit in appearance customization, it makes up for it in speed and features.
Connect - I originally wrote it off due to the inability to disable swipe gestures, though I tried to switch back to it after that feature was added. It's now a very pleasant experience, with a lot of customization! The only downside is that it is still slower than Liftoff at the moment.
Jerboa - decent, but buggy.
Lemmotif - no features, no logins, no customization, no posting, no nothing; just pure, blazingly fast, Lemmy doomscrolling.
Saw your comment and moved from Jerboa to Connect. Loading is so much faster, but I do miss the body text preview square Jerboa has. I can only preview it on Connect using fullwidth I think, which takes up too much real estate per post.
Liftoff is my favourite so far, but every time I use it I get the theme song from the old Australian kids show of the same name stuck in my head and it drives me insane.
I used Boost for a couple of years and will almost certainly be switching back to it as soon as it's available, it's set to download immediately from the play store when it releases.
Jerboa for me, too. Mostly because it was the first thing that came up on the app store for me, and there isn't a Lemmy is Fun (...yet?). So I tried Jerboa and it's perfectly capable.
Yeah I'm not about to switch to the fediverse and not use fully open source apps. I install almost nothing from the Google play store. There's no need to use Google play services to make a lemmy app.
Liftoff. I also tried Jerboa and Connect, but Liftoff just has the best look and feel. Having said that, as an old Boost for Reddit user I'll be switching to Boost for Lemmy as soon as it releases.
I am trying memmy and wefwef; so far I prefer wefwef as I find the memmy light theme to be too light - fonts are too washed out. Don’t like dark themes at all. I wish wefwef would show the current date and time though.
I have lurked on Reddit for many years, using Apollo, but never had an account. It seems that memmy does not let you browse communities without creating an account, so here I am. What I have seen so far of lemmy, it appears a lot friendlier than Reddit. This may induce me to actually contribute in future.
Memmy. It even had a full release on the App store a couple of hours ago, so no need for testflight anymore. There are updates almost daily and it gets better and better.
Using Jerboa right now. It's mostly good. I'm just unsure if the search function is returning all communities.. but maybe that's not possible? Still learning the details of the fediverse lol
Thunder is the only one I've used so far. No complaints at all, I just wish I could, instead of building a large list of subbed communities, just filter out certain communites from my feed. Maybe it's coming, maybe we already can 🤷♂️
Thunder is the best so far IMO. It has so many features, runs smoothly, has a great search function. One of the only things I think it needs more of is theming.
Edit: came back because since this comment I've been using Connect and haven't looked back.
[email protected] if you want to check it out. Amazing app.
I'd like to know what I am doing wrong when trying to log-in. I can't be the only person having issues.
I have this account (Hazdaz) and I've tried logging into wefwef, Connect and Jerboa. On ALL three apps on my Samsung S21FE I get an error message that my credentials/password isn't correct. I've used my PC and reset the password. Changed at least 2 times now and tried again logging into these 3 Android apps and the error is the same. What can I possibly be doing wrong? The only way I can access Lemmy is on a computer. I've asked about this a few days ago and some helpful people replied but nothing they suggested worked.
I JUST changed my password again. No special characters. Logged off my desktop, logged back in. No issues. Then tried it with Jerboa and no luck. I don't know what I can possibly be doing wrong.
Make sure you are selecting the instance holding your account.
Eg: if you signed up on "lemmy.world", then in your mobile app > in the log in page select "lemmy.world" then enter your creds and log in.
I have gone to that screen a million times now. I have tried lemmy.world and lemmy.ml (even though I am pretty sure it is .world). I have used "Hazdaz" "hazdaz" and "HAZDAZ" and I've triple checked my password. I've done this over and over and I always get "incorrect log-in" or something like that.
I have tried username, I have tried email. I have tried all lowercase username. I have tried all uppercase username.
I have tried every imaginable combination and I feel I am missing something obvious. Do I have to enable access from my desktop to allow a mobile app to also log in? Makes no sense, but I'm running out of possible issues.
Liftoff is great so far. Used Jebora, but it was having some connectivity issues and the comment structure was a little hard to differentiate. Liftoff is really nice and notifies you when you lose connection to the server. Never had an iPhone so didn't use apollo unfortunately because I heard great things. I did hear that the Boost team are releasing a new app soon which boost was IMO the best one I ever used
Used Connect but switched to mobile browser. Lemmy behave way less buggy and way more stable, while UI and functionality are just fine.
Will try Sync when it comes to beta though.
Between Jerboa and Connect atm. Prefer the look of Jerboa but it definitely is buggier. All of a sudden it wouldn't let me subscribe to communities so spending more time on Connect. Have signed up for boost though do will check that once it's released.
This is a developing situation and these apps are being updated sometimes multiple times a day. Looking up threads from even a few days ago, you might miss a game changing new feature. Let’s not discourage engagement here.
True and legit. My intention was not to discourage engagement. The other side also exists. Not everyone is interested in weekly updates about app developments. Repeated content and uninteresting content is another way to discourage engagement. There are better places for these topics, such as
I've tried using the firefox shortcut on my phone, and it's less than great (imho). I can't type replies, it goes all janky, freezes up, won't go back to the home page, etc. Virtually unuseable.
I use kbin as well. As you stated, the interface is appealing.
I just migrated to the Lemmyverse so I'm trying new stuff out but so far, kbin is for me.
I'm using Thunder. It's working well except maybe for the facts that upvoting takes forever and I keep getting 502 errors all the time, but I'm unsure whether that's Thunder's fault or it's just because my is instance is lemmy.world lol
I am using Liftoff and Jerboa with lemmy.ml - I prefer Liftoff. Lemmy.ml is pretty slow recently.
I also have a kbin account with subscriptions to the same communities, and on mobile I am using the web app: Howto install a web app.
Kbin + kbin enhancement script + ublock through a Kiwi Browser "app" install. I tried all the Lemmy specific apps, including wefwef, and couldn't stand any of them. Some were completely borked because beehaw was still on .17, others were incredibly buggy or they had very weird layout & design choices that made the usability experience just too weird.
I'm on iOS and I'm using Mlem. It seems to be changing and shifting rapidly. Already changed noticeably 3 or so times within three to five weeks. Imagine if Reddit app fixed three to five of the bugs that most annoyed me that quickly...
