Man pages bad
  • Man pages are amazing, the day I learned how to read command syntax me y understanding of linux skyrocketed.

  • What is the most difficult problem that you have fixed in linux?
  • Not fixed but there is an Arch problem that is and will always be the bane of mi existence.

For some reason when I click with the trackpad buttons the touchpad gets frozen for like a second (it's like they are recognised by the system as keyboard buttons, I have enabled that option to temporarily disable it when using keyboard).

I've checked for hours and days the libinput documentation and some synaptics libraries, even legacy ones. It is to this day the only problem that has lead me to reinstall my system but the problem remains.

It's not even like I have some niche setup, I mean, surely there must be thousands of Arch users running with a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7, and surely not every single one of them must be running it like this, right?

It has come to a point where I just gave up and got used to my system as is, but I'm sure I would be running fanfare if some day I am able to fix it.

  • What's the hardest lesson you've learned?
  • "Not everything is a lesson Ryan, sometimes you just fail."

  • Linux error starter pack
  • On the second one if someone typed just "y" I would print "Please read the damn warning".

  • Indie dev baffled after acquaintance clones his game, puts it on Steam, and acts like it's no big deal: 'Happens every day homie'
  • People arguing a lot of legal stuff while I just think this was a dick move.

  • Chasing the *frag*on
  • Playing league with my cousins 10 years algo may have been the only time I've got any enjoyment from League of Legends.

  • [Alzwards Corner] Haha, I'm in danger!
  • That stupid graveyard in Dark Souls 1

  • Amazon Prime Video will start showing ads on January 29th unless you pay extra for ad-free
  • There is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month* that you can sign up for here.

Then there is a price change you damn dimwit, you just gave the shitty tier the same pricing as the old normal tier, and amped up the normal tier by $3.00. I absolutely hate the wording for this, you just know it was to be able to not release the ad membership at a lower price.

  • Fuck, Marry, Kill?
  • Bro gets it

  • What is your boomer opinion
  • Notifications fucking suck, if it isn't either my alarm or my grandma's emergency button, my phone ain't gonna do a damn thing to alert me.

  • Google Play is beyond annoying
  • Good ol' notification paradox.

  • FOSS Android PDF reader recommendations?
  • Whoa I didn't know Okular had a mobile version. Thanks, gotta give it a try!

  • Did anyone try to return to reddit and notice it just didn't do it for you anymore?
  • Too much rage bait, also after a time in here it's quite apparent how much the algorithm tries to push you to addiction.

I miss the niche communities tho.

  • Cool YouTube cooking channels?

So I moved out recently and discovered I pretty much only know how to prepare scrambled eggs and smoothies.

I've been trying to find cool cooking resources online, but most feel like are just either clickbait or advertising me a lot of garbage (that vibe reminds me of toxic fitness channels).

Any good resources you guys may know? It doesn't necessarily have to be YouTube channels, extra points if it has beginner level recipes, easily findable ingredients or it's funny to follow. Thanks! :)

Should I be aware of something when buying a TV?

Hey guys, so I moved recently and started tipping my toes in self-hosting, currently managed to set up Pihole and Jellyfin.

I'm thinking of buying a TV to start enjoying all these cool services over my living room. The thing is, I'm pretty much an absolute beginner, and I'm not sure if there is something I should be aware of when buying a TV.

Since it is a fairly big spend, I would really hate to be locked out of it because of some greedy corporate garbage or something, especially since I would use it only for self-hosting, and I am aware TVs are particularly messy when it comes to this (never have bought one in my life). Could you guys help this lost kid?

Anybody else gets more upvotes in here than over THAT site?

I could swear to God I never hit the 10 mark over there. In here as long as it isn't a "^this" I get 10-20, and solidly hit the 50 mark if I comment something truly meaningful.

What's a good audio trimming open source replacement?

From time to time I got the need to trim intros/outros or silence from downloaded audio files.

I'm currently using Super Sound, but I find it a little silly that one of the last closed source, filled with ads app I still have installed is for such a small functionality.

On desktop I use ffmpeg for pretty much anything, so if there is some wrapper for it over android it would be ideal.

What is the thing that has surprised you the most about the Fediverse?

To me, it was the astounding amount of interactivity between the community.

At first I thought this was temporarily caused by the whole migration from the R site. But, just out of curiosity, I signed up to Mastodon and have enjoyed myself just as much as here.

Most of the Lemmy post's / Mastodon toots have almost as much or more comments / boosts than upvotes or favorites. It feels so organic and makes me realize how much these huge companies employ technics to pretty much force to interact the way they see fit.

It reminds me of that good old saying "you are not immune to propaganda", well I guess neither I nor anyone is immune to psychological tricks either.

P.S. I also love the fact that since there isn't pretty much any money involved, most opinions and interactions are genuine. Like, who is gonna pay this dude to advertise a book through BookWyrm? That increases immensely the odds that said person is being honest with their opinion of that book. It's amazing.

Ugly empty spaces between intented lines

Hi, I have set up my neovim config listchars like so:

    vim.opt.listchars = { tab = "│ ", trail = "·", precedes = "<", extends = ">", nbsp = "○" }

But for empty lines between the indentations there are these awful holes left.

I used to use intent-blankline.nvim but I want to try to tone down my plugin usage, and I pretty much used it only to fix this issue, could somebody help me?

Some Reddit 3PA's are going subscription-only and I just want to vent

WE HAD A GOOD THING YOU STUPID SON OF A BITCH!

We had 3PA's, we had all the free labor in the world, just from passionate people who wanted to share some topic, we had bots to fight spam, and extremely talented developers who made your stupid website work on mobile. It all ran like clockwork, if you could have just shut your mouth we'd all be fine right now.

But no, you just had to blow it up. YOU, AND YOUR GREED AND YOUR EGO.

    Fuck u/spez
