What kind of special knowledge or equipment do piracy groups have?
  • I think the reason why regular store bought gizmos won’t let you decrypt it is because content can require HDCP to make sure you don’t gain access to the data. If there were a device at Best Buy that just bypassed this, I think the DMCA and rights holders would come down hard on the seller.

I’ve heard of gizmos from shadier places may be able to decrypt the data but it’s likely because they’re acting outside of the law.

  • Literally Nineteen Eighty-Four
  • In general, use numerals to express numbers 10 and above, and use words to express numbers zero through nine.

    Example given:

students were in the third, sixth, eighth, 10th, and 12th grades

Your example does not follow the style guide and is an example of when to use digits

    Percentages 50% 75%–80%

If you’re a professional writer, you should be following the style guide and this is explicitly spelled out by the APA.

  • Bitwarden Desktop version 2024.10.0 is no longer free software
  • Vaultwarden is only the server, no? So any clients that you use to access Vaultwarden are built and maintained by 8bit solutions a.k.a. Bitwarden, including the desktop client that is the subject of this post.

  • Meta fires staffers for using $25 meal credits on household goods
  • Are they vouchers? I don’t remember from the article, but I’d assume it’s just the employees give Facebook their Uber account info and whenever it goes down to $0, FB automatically reloads the account. I’d imagine it would be way too much effort to pass out physical cards to everyone.

Your point about only retaining the worst employees is valid though

  • Meta fires staffers for using $25 meal credits on household goods
  • Well in this case, it’s $25 that wasn’t going to be spent that now does get spent. If you do that for a year it’s $7k additional. I don’t think it’s fireable, but I can at least understand from a bean counter perspective how that’s enough.

  • Meta fires staffers for using $25 meal credits on household goods
  • The only thing that I could imagine would make the pooling look really bad is if one or more people are not going to use their credit and so they “pool” it in with someone else who does want to use it, and the latter employee now has a $50/$75/etc. credit.

  • Meta fires staffers for using $25 meal credits on household goods
  • Staff are given daily allowances of $20 for breakfast, $25 for lunch, and $25 for dinner, with meal credits issued in $25 increments.

Hot damn this is absolutely wild. Even if you only look at lunch, that’s ~$6k/person. If you add in breakfast and dinner that’s ~$17k/person.

  • Passwords have problems, but passkeys have more
  • It could be your browser / system that is struggling to show it. When I use my work computer and Microsoft edge, I don’t think I’ve ever had a situation where the QR code didn’t work. When I use flatpak’d Firefox on my Linux laptop, I experience more trouble, probably because of the sandboxing.

    Recommendations for cappuccino mugs

With the state of Amazon currently, I can’t tell what is good and what is crap on there anymore. So I wanted to ask you fine people if you had any recommendations on cappuccino mugs. Not super worried about cost, but also don’t want to break the bank for some mugs.

    Any recommendations / thoughts appreciated!

Please help me to get started

    Hello!

I recently got a new espresso machine (a Breville Barista Express if that helps at all), and I have no idea how to get started picking espresso beans. I think I’d like a milder, darker roast for either lattes / cappuccinos but also good for drinking straight.

Where do I even go about finding a good bag of beans? Are there any recommended sites? Do you just go to your grocery store?

Any other advice for a brand-new first timer?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!
