Does your instance federate with Hexbear and Lemmygrad? Because I constantly have those people in my feed and it's absolutely exhausting. I see more memes about burning the rich and starting a revolution than normal memes in my feed. I'm left-wing, but I'm not looking at memes to constantly be confronted with politics. Unfortunately instance blocking isn't working well for me yet
Waah...I don't want to press the downvote button, id rather whine about all the things I don't like. People should automatically anticipate my desires and cater to them.... Waaahh
If there are two or more people, there are politics. I agree with the idea that people who decry ‘politics’ often have disgusting ideas and beliefs. Its a malignant form of privilege to pretend to be able to ignore politics. It’s either that or they are just a little dim and don’t feel they can keep up in a conversation.
It's when people start screaming/blaming the "left" or "right", the "biden" or "trump", etc.
Extra annoying when I am not even fucking American and have to hear Americans scream about your old senile corpses you call presidents in EVERY FUCKING POST.
Extra extra annoying when I am reading a news article about my country, and Americans roll in screaming about how that's "bidens fault" or "illegal in montana". Learn to fucking read where you are.
I think it's the world that's been taken over, not by politics, but by a series of rich bastards not being held accountable for the crimes against society they're regularly committing.
But either way I'd be MUCH happier to wish for all the porn to be removed from my feed when I dont even follow a single porn based sub. Or at the very least make sure it's blurred.
Seriously. I'm suspicious and tired of people who can find a way to complain about Trump and Republicans or Biden and alleged Socialism in literally every single topic, no matter how unrelated it may be. I just want to laugh every once in a while.
To be honest, due to how this thread turned out, I’m not even able to distinguish if this is serious or sarcasm
Just to clarify, my general point, I am in no way against discussing politics. Be it in the political communities, or with the occasional meme. I fully realize the potential that memes have for initiating or reflecting on political discussion.
My point here is that I have a strong feeling that the comment section of seemingly non-divisive posts I’ve also fallen prey to the BuT eVeRyThInG iS PoLiTiCs hardliners. I fully realize that many, many topics can be seen as politically divisive, even if I don’t feel so myself. But I would like to make two points about this:
And some posts, I get the feeling that the political discussion has absolutely nothing to do with the post body itself. It could be a picture of a beautiful sunrise, and someone suddenly starts talking about some American politician, and about how if it was up to that politician, we would never have sunrises again or something.
Secondly, but very importantly: the level tends to be very low. People don’t know once we articulate their political opinion or reaction to another person’s political opinion, but it turns into this food fight-grade yes/no, strawman, whataboutism, etc. etc. It is my personal opinion that this takes away from most users lemmy experience, it does from mine anyway.
If people actually upvoted good content and downvoted bad content, the front page of every default sub on Reddit wouldn't be an endless sea of reposts.
I downvote whenever I see them, but it seems like there are more, or a loud few (maybe both), for every one of my downvotes. It's not just here, it seems like this on /all too. To be more specific, it seems there are more trolls constantly watching and quicker on the keyboard for anything remotely political. It sucks that we need moderation in any capacity to enforce no politics on 'no politics' spaces..
With all the garbage, unrelated, and no-effort posts that get dumped in this community and then upvoted hundreds of times, it's hilarious that political memes, which are actually memes, are where people draw the line.
Just to clarify, my meme was more about Lemmy in general, also not the posts themselves but that the comment sections of all kind of things suddenly become (in my view unnecessarily) politically divisive. It just escalates quickly.
