Harris' candidacy has led to surge in Black voter enthusiasm. It could make a difference in swing states - ABC News
  • I gotta say, it's weird seeing how much the US brings race and gender into stuff in 2024. Like, whether good or bad, massive cohorts produce outcome based on that.

Whether someone's claiming "I'm left" or "I'm right", It's all like stepping back in time. It's a really weird, fragmented country and much of those involved are too focused on the other "side" to realise they're part of the core problem too, simply by being stuck in and fueling that 'us' and 'them' thinking which holds it so far back from actual progress.

  • if the total fertility rate drops and stays below global replacement rate, will humans disappear?
  • Mathematically? Obviously, yes.

Socially? Would never happen. Imagine our population is just stock. It goes up and down depending on how good things look. At some point, it cannot continue as it's not financially feasible. But when it drops back down into realistic numbers, balance goes up again.

You can see this behaviour in the generations (Z, Y, X, Boomer, Pre-war, etc.) These generation changes are marked by a tipping point of birthrate increasing or decreasing in a nation—typically globally, which is why we all tend to agree on the start/end of generational eras within 3–5 years.

  • Pure bliss
  • When I lived in the tropics, I loved rainy days and storms so much. Would go sit outside, put on music, and just enjoy being out in the wet, keeping cool. Like having a nice cool off shower ×1000.

  • The ideal floorplan
  • I've moved to a colder climate, so wear socks indoors now. The dog and I have drift king battles. He has a cool signature move where he sprints across the lounge room onto his bed and slides it halfway into the kitchen. But I got him on hallway slides to the bathroom where such pace can only be achieved with superior control.

  • Just going through the motions
  • When I was 5, I went to a speech therapist for an S lisp. I remember first thing they told me was that I'm meant to keep my tongue behind my teeth. I had to say, "Sammy the silly snake slithers by" and nailed it. I forget all the other stuff, but never had a lisp after that very brief and distinct moment.

All I remember before that was adults saying to me, "No, like this." and would just hiss at me. Who'd have thought a few seconds of explaining something would actually work.

  • Seat belts. I'm telling you, seat belts.
  • Haha. When I first moved to a city, I'd never been on a train before and it was hard. But then I just engaged my surfing muscle memory and suddenly it was very easy. Because I was on a train every day, I always stood hands-free because it felt like good training while I was away from the ocean. Was a fun game.

I guess we'll get a roll for animal handling, but that's going to be a strength check in this situation.

Also performance at very high, because obviously everyone is looking on in horror and it's going to take every ounce of charisma you've got to hold this village's respect.

  • Too Old!
  • The age gap between the two is tiny. Less than Matrix and Matrix Reloaded. Also, they were in their 50s then. One was born just before Hitler died, the other just after. They're older than transistors, video tape, and James Bond.

  • Seat belts. I'm telling you, seat belts.
  • I like to imagine there's a whole semester-long unit at Starfleet Academy that deals specifically with footing and movement while the vessel is under attack, because bracing support and soft edges imply conflict is imminent. Which apparently it is every third encounter or so.

Tried the online servers... Roleplay is not people organising pack roles and then trying to get through a year cycle without chat.

There I am speccing into speed and endurance so I can go running off expanding territory, finding better den locations, catching jack rabbits, fighting off rival packs, getting a dominant territory safely going. I come back to the den and it's like a fucking Paw Patrol fanfic going on.

  • What needs to happen is they need to stop utilising the property owned, run, and regulated by the state if they don't want the state seeking financial compensation and damages off them for illegally coming onto their property and using it without permission.

They're lucky, if this was someone else's property, they could get shot. Fortunately the state is very open with its property and allowing others to use it, however they obviously have some guidelines in place to respect.

Perhaps a car isn't for this sovcit if they don't want to use the state's roads and don't have their own to use either.

And no, you cannot find the original post anymore. At least it's missing for me, the OP, unless I locate it through inbox history.

Advice on current direction of build (Gaming + Data Science)

    Gaming

    • Mostly a huge array of co-op games, performance doesn't matter much, just good 1440 frame rate with high settings.
    • HOWEVER, sim racing is my exception and I'm wanting to upgrade from a single 27" to something more immersive. Considering I'm on the most minimal, a TV, triple 24s, or VR are all big immersion upgrades, but each with their pros and cons. But all demanding more of the GPU,ideally keeping rates at 120, even 90 maybe... 1080 for triples, but ideally 1440 all-round to make use of FSR better.

    Data Science

    • I need my PC to be a workhorse. Many hours of my week are ETL of big datasets and complex models. Lots of calculation time and lots of loading tables/arrays into memory for queries and transforms.
    • Ive recently gone up to 32GB DDR4 3600 (going to go to 64) and an R9 5900X. It's done nothing huge for gaming, but it's increased my data crunching tasks significantly.

    What I have right now...

    Guts

    • Asus PRIME X570-P ATX AM4 Motherboard
    • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor
    • MSI MECH 2X Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Video Card
    • Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory

    Storage (This is way behind)

    • Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
    • Silicon Power UD90 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
    • And some ancient 2TB 7200 HDD that's a dying archive only drive

    Primary display

    • Acer Nitro XZ272U Pbmiiphx 27.0" 2560 x 1440 165 Hz Curved Monitor

    Cooling

    • Lian Li Lancool II Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case
    • Deepcool LT520 85.85 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

    Where I'm stuck...

    • Should I go up to AM5 even though I just got the 5900X?
    • Do I then go DDR5 instead of 64GB DDR4 or am I getting too many year's ahead of myself?
    • The 6700XT is not overclocking friendly, for sim racing I may need to bump up if going for more display.
    • For storage, what's the best way to go for a bunch of games installed, but also not having stuff get in the way of data crunching applications and calculations? Should I reserve a drive purely for data? Can I dedicate anything to it on top of the 64GM RAM coming in?
    • Lastly, the display conundrum for sim racing; VR, TV, triples... 49" UW on top of any above upgrades is just way over budget.

I'm basically just after ideas of what to prioritise next, what can wait a while, and what path I should be starting on for future-proofing without spending the budget on future gear too soon while it's all expensive.

    Advice much appreciated.

    Getting beginner clubs

Hello. I do the golf and am about a 3/10 at it. I sold my old set when I moved but am looking to get a new set again but immediately hit a conundrum...

Do I get a cheap new set? Do I get a second-hand set? Do I take time to build a secondhand set?

The other problem is; I have no clue when it comes to what makes a good club. My previous driver was brutal, but highly rewarding when hit just right. Whereas I'd use friend's drivers and found them much more forgiving. I have no idea why that was except I noted my club head was smaller, maybe that?

I also don't really know what clubs I should have in the bag. I figure I'd go with what I've used most, or maybe just go Driver, 3, 5, 7, 9... and then we go with the speciality clubs. Never had a hybrid, never had a wedge apart from PW and SW. I used a friend's loft wedge no idea what it was, but I loved it.

Does anyone have good advice on all these queries? Or have a good source that isn't a crappy algorithm article?
