This has to be a joke...

And no, you cannot find the original post anymore. At least it's missing for me, the OP, unless I locate it through inbox history.

Coincidentally, the meme was about mods on shitposts lol. I'll be banned soon 🫡

Europeans of Lemmy, what places in Europe should foreigners avoid at all cost?
  • I have personally yelled, "Fuck off! No means no you fucking creep!" at the top of my lungs in a crowded bar. It was genuine, but over the top so every other person would turn and see them, ruining their chances of "picking up" at that establishment, forcing them to leave.

    "Are you okay?"

"Oh, yeah I'm fine. That guy just needed to learn a fucking lesson."

  • Europeans of Lemmy, what places in Europe should foreigners avoid at all cost?
  • That does work too, but not on the ones that put shit on you and demand payment, usually operating as 2+. Their tactic is intimidation and drama—playing the victim to you—but it can not be beaten if you're playing the role of a happy idiot, providing random or exact opposite behaviour to what they're attempting.

  • Scammers abroad: Troll with randomness. Laugh at inappropriate times. Nod at them while making the eating food gesture. Randomly start pointing down a street like you're trying to give directions but just shrug. Pick a random sports team name and say, "Gooooo EAGLES!" while nodding and dancing. Basically pick some random thing, pretend they said it, and you're going along with it.

If they're pointing to friendship braclets, you say "9 o'clock." even though it's 1:30. If they keep doing it, you just laugh, nod, and clap.

My favourite is pretending I'm deaf and making up signing. When they start gesturing, I repeat the gesture in shock. When they nod, I act disgusted like they're sick in the head.

They will very quickly move on since you're a waste of time. The more awkward you make it, the better, especially if you're drawing looks from others.

  • Easier said than done
  • Oh, I've never looked into it, I just noticed it sometimes. I don't say anything harmful or nasty, just unpopular so I expect downvote burial even before I hit the post button haha. I figure that's how it's always meant to work. Downvotes handle dipshit remarks, mods handle malicious ones. But seems entire conversations with multiple people get removed because, despite all the positive upvotes and people involved in a good ol' fashion discussion, a mod has a different personal opinion and it all goes. Even the off-hand comments connected to that thread.

  • here we go
  • I think it's worse here.

    "The grass is blue."

"No, the grass is green. Here is a source."

    "The grass is blue."

"No, the grass is green. Here is a source."

"Bro, your own source says it's the chemicals in grass that make it green LOL."

    "That's correct."

"So you think just because it appears green from the chemicals, it's green?"

    "Yes. It's certainly not blue."

"Actually without the chemicals it would be translucent which would be reflective of the sky, making it blue like how the ocean does."

"Sure. Except there's chemicals that make it green instead."

"I don't see how you're not understanding how stupid that is. It's not the grass that's green."

"And in your analogy it's not the grass that's blue."

"You clearly don't understand science and I pity you. I won't waste any more of my time. Good day, sir."

  • Literally! Taking it!
  • Dean Buchanan?

    "Ohh, you're a Dean."

"Wow. You must know your academia."

"Did you know they put horse urine on buildings to stain the copper domes?"

    "That's so interesting..."

  • Why do I puke more than once when I've been drunk?
  • Correct. And the body will continue attempting to throw up so long as it continues experiencing the symptoms of being poisoned. It has nothing to do about an empty stomach, if it still thinks the body has ingested something, it will keep purging.

This is the whole premise of motion and sea sickness, the body thinking it's poisoned. In the case of alcohol, it actually is.

  • Chinese EV makers proposed a 25% tariff on large European ICE cars, state media reports
  • Do it. The attractiveness of EU cars in China has a lot to do with expression of wealth, status, and exclusivity. It's free marketing.

Make a cheaper model aimed at the market to offset the tarrif and the logo on front will sell itself.

  • You gotta remember World Wars take a bit to warm up first. Skirmish here, escalation there, lots of sitting on thumbs for a while, and then everyone piles in after the rate of occupation starts to get out of hand and the aggressors show deft multi-tasking skills.

  • I've cleaned my shoes ≠ His shoes are clean now.

The only thing linking the two statements are lines drawn from the shows, not language.

  • The meaning of life
  • There isn't one. At least one that you have a say in. Your purpose is to be a part of nature as you always have and always will be. Your purpose right now is to conduct yourself as you are, since that's how nature made you to be. You will die, as nature has purposed. You will be re-used as nature has purposed. You will never again be in the natural state you are currently in, but you will always be a part of nature.

Reflect frequently upon the instability of things, and how very fast the scenes of nature are shifted. Matter is in perpetual flux. Change is always and everywhere at work; it strikes through causes and effects, and leaves nothing fixed and permanent.

The only constant is nature. If it has a purpose, you have found yours.

  • US lawmakers meet with Dalai Lama in India's Dharamshala, sparking anger from China
  • The dilution of "anger from China".

    It's as long a running joke as's_final_warning

Seriously, they could be genuine some day. Like warn the world against some major catastrophe, but we'll assume that if China's upset, it's nothing to worry about or may even be something we want to happen.

  • What popular product do you think is modern day snakeoil?
  • Very often replying "use function blabla() and such snd so" very detailed instructions while this suggested function just doesn't exist at all in certain language asked fo

I've noticed this a lot too—especially for M. But even though it makes up a function, it sometimes inspires a more optimised idea/method that can be more flexible for future datasets.

But most times it starts to massacre things and disregard prompted parameters or even producing an identical suggestion immediately after being told not to, why not to, and reconfirming original parameters of the query.

Some times punching in the same prompts five times for five iterations produces completely different results, but one may be on the right track and I can code the rest. It helps to set it's personality first, so it's sharing ideas it's seen out there, rather than trying to please.

At the least, it's a big time saver. Gone are the days where I get a few days spare to work on solving a complex problem through trial and discovery, so it's an excellent tool for reducing testing time and speeding up the route to an optimised method.

Advice on current direction of build (Gaming + Data Science)

    • Mostly a huge array of co-op games, performance doesn't matter much, just good 1440 frame rate with high settings.
    • HOWEVER, sim racing is my exception and I'm wanting to upgrade from a single 27" to something more immersive. Considering I'm on the most minimal, a TV, triple 24s, or VR are all big immersion upgrades, but each with their pros and cons. But all demanding more of the GPU,ideally keeping rates at 120, even 90 maybe... 1080 for triples, but ideally 1440 all-round to make use of FSR better.

    Data Science

    • I need my PC to be a workhorse. Many hours of my week are ETL of big datasets and complex models. Lots of calculation time and lots of loading tables/arrays into memory for queries and transforms.
    • Ive recently gone up to 32GB DDR4 3600 (going to go to 64) and an R9 5900X. It's done nothing huge for gaming, but it's increased my data crunching tasks significantly.

    What I have right now...

    • Asus PRIME X570-P ATX AM4 Motherboard
    • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor
    • MSI MECH 2X Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Video Card
    • Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory

    Storage (This is way behind)

    • Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
    • Silicon Power UD90 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
    • And some ancient 2TB 7200 HDD that's a dying archive only drive

    Primary display

    • Acer Nitro XZ272U Pbmiiphx 27.0" 2560 x 1440 165 Hz Curved Monitor

    • Lian Li Lancool II Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case
    • Deepcool LT520 85.85 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

    Where I'm stuck...

    • Should I go up to AM5 even though I just got the 5900X?
    • Do I then go DDR5 instead of 64GB DDR4 or am I getting too many year's ahead of myself?
    • The 6700XT is not overclocking friendly, for sim racing I may need to bump up if going for more display.
    • For storage, what's the best way to go for a bunch of games installed, but also not having stuff get in the way of data crunching applications and calculations? Should I reserve a drive purely for data? Can I dedicate anything to it on top of the 64GM RAM coming in?
    • Lastly, the display conundrum for sim racing; VR, TV, triples... 49" UW on top of any above upgrades is just way over budget.

I'm basically just after ideas of what to prioritise next, what can wait a while, and what path I should be starting on for future-proofing without spending the budget on future gear too soon while it's all expensive.

    Advice much appreciated.

    Golf saltesc

    Getting beginner clubs

Hello. I do the golf and am about a 3/10 at it. I sold my old set when I moved but am looking to get a new set again but immediately hit a conundrum...

Do I get a cheap new set? Do I get a second-hand set? Do I take time to build a secondhand set?

The other problem is; I have no clue when it comes to what makes a good club. My previous driver was brutal, but highly rewarding when hit just right. Whereas I'd use friend's drivers and found them much more forgiving. I have no idea why that was except I noted my club head was smaller, maybe that?

I also don't really know what clubs I should have in the bag. I figure I'd go with what I've used most, or maybe just go Driver, 3, 5, 7, 9... and then we go with the speciality clubs. Never had a hybrid, never had a wedge apart from PW and SW. I used a friend's loft wedge no idea what it was, but I loved it.

Does anyone have good advice on all these queries? Or have a good source that isn't a crappy algorithm article?
