I really like the fact that the Lemmy community includes a whole swathe of trans folk, I learned some new stuff the safe way and that's really REALLY valuable to me.
I also really like the freedom that using Lemmy for social media empowers us with. Freedom of OS, Porn, whatever.
I can respect almost all kinks, ofc there's bound to be a couple I don't understand but that's not a problem for me, if every participant consented.
I dislike furry kink, it invokes a feeling of disgust in me. This post alienates me slightly from the Linux community. Not a problem, but it did make me realize I would want to be more careful linking my kinks to my favorite Tools/Software in the future in a global media setting.
2025 Is my Linux year. Last year I tried as well, but I hardly boot to Linux today. Before the year is over, Windows will OS non grata here. Except on my Surface maybe 🤔
I wouldn't worry too much about the furry stuff. People aren't going to be pushy about it, but you will see Xenia here occasionally. Just consider her like a mascot and all is well :-)
From what I've seen while Linux support is okay for the Surface line, it's just not there yet to make sense as an "upgrade" power management and wireless still need some work if I recall correctly.
Oh, very nice, thanks for the heads-up. I might try now! Do you know of any foss app that could replace whiteboard? I don't like the MS ecosystem, but using the pen in whiteboard is pretty transformative use for me. I could ditch it but I would miss it.
lol, 25+ years for me. Fortunately it looks like I just have to avoid certain distros. Hopefully mental-illness will go out of vogue soon, so we can move past all this garbage and get back to computing.
I remember it so clearly man... The morning of October 15 2025, a Wednesday as I recall. People were warned but they didn't listen. They don't ever listen.
I'll never forget the screaming. Millions of Windows 10 computers just spontaneously exploding all over the place. Women, children and men with beards running down the streets of every city just trying to avoid the thousands of computers being thrown from the tops of buildings. The world was never the same after that. I found an abandoned bus in the chaos so I tried to save as many people as I could. We rode into the night towards the hills. Away from the cities and the looting and chaos.
Or you know... it just means no updates and we'll all probably be fine.

Dude, I would be hesitant to use an OS more than a month after EOL. I hope you realize that your OS no longer receiving security updates is a really, really, really bad thing. People staying on Win10 instead of upgrading to Linux or macOS or downgrading to Win11 is going to be zero day heaven.
I remember even TheTechnician27 tried to warn us "it's going to be zero day heaven!" they said but everyone just shrugged and now here I am with my fellow refugees in the woods trying to catch some squirrels for my dinner.
Already dual booting. Haven't used Linux since 2010 so it's been a bit of a learning curve. But now I haven't booted into windows for about 2 months now and it's been great for gaming.
Bazzite has been awesome as a recent windows expat. 100% recommended and the only game I have not gotten working via the built in steam compatibility tools has been pubg.
Yeah, I keep my Windows PC purely for League of Legends due to their anti cheat (read rootkit) and it's a pre-2017 chip, so it's not Win 11 eligible (which I've always counted my blessings for). And also the Spotify web page doesn't work well for me on Linux. Other than that, I do pretty much everything on my newer Linux machine.
There was a comment thread in one of the Linux communities a while back talking about this mindset. Obviously the comments got a bit rude and unconstructive, but the point is that you can switch to something like bazzite now and most things will work pretty well, but if you're holding out until it's perfect then you'll be waiting forever!
Ubuntu has official Microsoft AD support and allows domain joining during setup. There are downsides to Ubuntu as well, though, so if that's not an acceptable answer just know support exists and can likely be ported to anything with some effort.
Yeah, but I try and keep as little MS as possible, so my DC is a Linux system, which works fine for LDAP and MS systems joining, but somewhat ironically I've yet to be able to get a Linux system joined to it. They actually have a helper app even outside of sssd but it seems to be poorly maintained. Was trying Bazzite again today based on another comment but no luck so far.
Sweet, will have to take a further look at that. Had set it up to check the state of Nix games and it seems to be pretty decent (last I really looked was when StarCraft was still a big thing). Didn't see anything in the settings about ldap/ad auth in my messing about though.
And a new PC, or are you lucky enough to have sufficiently recent hardware that will support it, unlike thousands of others with otherwise perfectly good hardware?
