1000 users!
1000 users!
lemmy.world just reached 1000 users.
Please remember that the server was created June 1st! So still might notice some startup issues... but so far so good! Welcome @all!
At this rate we'll hit 2000 in the next hour...
34 0 ReplyYou can thank reddit CEO lol, he just held the most pathetic AMA I've seen, people are even angrier than before :D
p.s. also watch out for next Monday, that's when the reddit blackout begins
23 0 ReplyAre you personally paying the server costs? How can we help subsidize?
12 0 ReplyAh. There's a donation link on the front page. Just set up a recurring donation.
7 0 ReplyI would totally donate for running costs.
5 0 Reply
At this point you will be probably the biggest instance before the start of the new week 😂
9 0 ReplyWell let's see if it doesn't crash before that. I can scale the hardware but not sure about scaling the software yet..
2 0 Reply
Is there somewhere the numbers are tracked?
7 0 ReplyI use grafana for that. Might make that public someday
2 0 ReplyYes. You can find the info in the sidebar

My first comment, can't wait to use Lemmy for the next 15 years.
Fuck /u/spez!
18 0 ReplyAh, you must also have been part of the original Digg exodus then?
5 0 ReplyYes but I actually liked Kevin, I enjoyed all the side video podcast and skits they did on the side.
3 0 ReplyAnd slashdot before that. Narwhals and whisky and all that. But we don't talk about usenet. And here we are again.
PS it's way too easy to accidentally block people on here. And then I had to go to a deeply buried settings page to unblock you again.

Why only 15 years?! Why can do better!
6 2 ReplyGreat thing about fediverse, maybe @ruup goes full blown tyrannical, we can go over to another server.
If it's possible to build perpetual social media, this is how it would look

I can Digg this place
13 0 ReplyHello fellow Digg refugee.

Over 2k5 already. Stats page says 2.52k
12 0 ReplyYup, that's how fast it goes!
4 0 Replywhere can I see the stats?
3 0 ReplyAt least on the mobile web page, there is a button near the top of the page that says Sidebar. That will give basic stats like total users on the instance.

Is this where the cool kids are hanging these days? (Just joined as a refugee from that other place)
11 0 ReplyNo just the grumpy old people. 😄
6 0 ReplyDammit! Why does everywhere I go turn out to be where the grumpy old people hang out?
Oh...

Just noticed lemmy.world is now 1 of the 4 instances recommended on join-lemmy. Congratulations on that too!
9 0 ReplyHello fellow reddit refugees. Very interested in learning Lemmy and figuring out how contribute to the community.
9 0 ReplyGood evening! All new to me too! Looking forward to figuring things out for a new start!

Wasn't it at like 200 just 2-3 days ago? That's a massive increase!
9 0 ReplyYeah the server was just installed June 1st. Growth is crazy.
(But I've seen crazier with mastodon.world, which had 4000 new users per hour at the peak..
12 0 ReplyThere is still time to see that sort of growth on here, particularly when reddit goes dark next week or shortly after that
4 0 Reply
That's great! I remember just a few days ago that it had only 100 users, it's growing quickly!
9 0 ReplyIt seems a bit laggy to me, but that's hardly surprising. I hope we can form a good little community of outsiders here! 👍
8 0 ReplyCan you tell me what's laggy? Only thing I noticed is the 'Post' or 'Reply' that takes too long.
7 0 ReplyPretty much everything has a bit of lag on my end. Not complaining, I understand why, just letting you know.
7 0 ReplyThe post thing is weird. Even when I'm on lemmy.world, but post on communities from other instances it seems pretty fast. But posting on a local community is slow. Very weird. Locks on a table somewhere?
6 0 ReplyI'm still taking some time to post but it's certainly better than before your upgrade.
EDIT: Still ~10 seconds or so for this comment.
3 0 ReplyReplying takes a good 6 or 7 seconds for me right now.

7 0 ReplyJust made a new general Star Wars community! I have no idea how to grow something like that, so any Star Wars fans come on over and help!
7 0 ReplyYou should link it

That's great. Is this like the main page or what?
7 0 ReplyAnother Reddit refugee here. I guess after June 30th member numbers will explode?
9 0 ReplyI hope. So far my friends seem hesitant to leave Reddit.
6 0 Reply
Congrats!! That's quite a milestone in such a short period :)
Edit: sorry if this is not the proper place to ask but is there a way to donate for server expenses?
6 0 ReplyI just added donation info to the sidebar, see home page.
9 0 ReplyGreat! thanks
3 0 ReplyWhat are the running costs like?

Hi everyone, another Reddit migrant. I've been playing around a few Lemmy communities with my Mastodon account but got fed up with Mastodon's interface for interacting with Lemmy communities and decided to join a real instance. Lemmy.world seems like a pretty cool place in the Threadiverse, thanks for having me!

1 0 ReplyAm I indirectly supporting lemmy devs by being on lemmy.world? I'd rather not be supporting tankies.
5 4 ReplyJust by using their software. They have no other involvement in this server.

1 0 ReplyVery cool! Are there any plans for a mobile app?
1 1 ReplyThere's already a mobile app for the entire Lemmy community though, and it's Jerboa
