Nice. I boil mine in milk (almond milk these days), then add dried cranberries, toasted chopped pecans, and maple syrup.
Just played through the demo, and I think the gameplay is fun and entertaining, but I agree. It's not that they're physically hard to read - you can right click on the cards and blow them up big - but the language is imprecise and unclear in places. It's not always obvious what a card does or what specific abilities do, even with the tooltips. I did wishlist it, but I'll wait until it's on sale or in a bundle.

Elden Ring. I've never really played a souls game, and it looks really great.
Not a lot of joy this year, got laid off last year and now find myself in a job where I'm making less and commuting more, but there were a couple of bright spots. I've been running a D&D game set in Mythic Greece, and it's been the best TTRPG I've run or played in years - my players have been absolutely loving it. Plus, I recently spoke to a retirement advisor and found that I'm in very good shape to retire in 10 years, and that makes me very happy.

Gods yes. What a brilliant piece of writing that DLC was - simultaneously hilarious and deeply poignant.
I have a Greenpan 10?-inch skillet that I really like and use a lot. I've had it for several years - pretty sure I bought it before the start of the pandemic, so it's definitely seen plenty of action. On the stove I primarily use cast iron, but for fish and eggs I break out the ceramic non-stick. It works great for those applications and I really like it. That said, it has started to develop one spot along the side where the coating is wearing off. I actually suspect that was my fault for letting something burn onto it and not cleaning it right away. It any case, I still use it and it still works great on the bottom of the pan, just need to avoid that one spot. I give it a thumbs-up.
Saw it last night, mostly agree with this take on it, though in a bit less glowing terms. I didn't think the emotional payoff alluded to in this review really worked, because I didn't think they'd laid enough groundwork for it. Too much of this movie was more storyboard than story, with not enough time spent on actually delving into these characters' feelings and relationships. That said, it was definitely a fun popcorn flick, with some great action, a good sense of humor, fun characters, and, as the article points out, minimal required external knowledge. And everything said about the publicity was spot on.
Glib (though truthful) answers aside, I thought this was a good read. Thank you for posting it.
After finishing a playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, I'm now on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Fun, but nowhere near as good as the original Tiny Tina DLC for BL2. Still, I'm 26 hours in and I'll definitely finish it. After that... maybe I'll go back and do a different run of BG3. I'm looking forward to getting back to CP2077 and picking up Phantom Liberty, but I'm going to wait for that to be on some sort of sale.

Played Outer Worlds earlier this year, and I agree with your assessment. I did play Fallout New Vegas later on, and while New Vegas felt bigger, I think I enjoyed Outer Worlds a bit more. Mainly I think the humor hit more consistently FOR ME in OW, and I really think the humor kind of makes the game. But of course humor is very subjective, so I understand why a lot of people prefer FNV (not to mention it has a certain built-in cachet from all the other Fallout games).
Anyway, I enjoyed it, I'm glad I played it through to the end, but I wouldn't play it again (e.g. to try different playstyles or run through with different companions). Glad you are also enjoying it!
Still playing BG3. About 120 hours in, still my first playthrough, but I think I'm getting close to the end. Wouldn't be surprised if it takes me another 15-20 hours to get there though. After that I need to decide if I want to play through again with different characters/choices, or do something else first (recently got Tiny Tina in a bundle and looking forward to playing that).
Saw them perform just a couple months ago after having not seem them in over a decade. They put on an AMAZING show. So much fun, such incredible energy, and they've really taken their live performance to the next level. I highly recommend catching them on tour if they ever come near you.
Invincible: Atom Eve Discussion (possible spoilers)
I just finished watching Invincible: Atom Eve, and I felt like talking about it. In short, I thought it was fantastic! In a world filled with superhero origin stories, this was the superhero origin story I didn't know I needed.
Full disclosure, I've always liked the character of Atom Eve, both in the comics and the TV show, so I might be biased or at least already primed to like this one-shot. That said, I thought the animation was great (in keeping with the rest of the series), and the voice acting was spot on. It was a bit bittersweet to hear Lance Reddick again (I assume for the final time), but he was perfect in the role.
They did a brilliant job capturing the wonder, excitement, and heartbreak of Samantha's story. I literally gasped in time with her when she discovered her power, and nearly shed a tear in disappointment with her over her family. It's been a very long wait to get new Invincible, and Nov. 3 is still a long way away, but I thought this was a great reminder of what we've been waiting for.

I remember discovering reddit a dozen years ago or so, and got hooked. At the time, there was no official reddit app, so I looked around at all the apps out there for my android phone, BaconReader, something blue, and then finally settled on RIF as the best experience. At an hour a day, for 12 years, that's 4380 hours I've spent on that app, at a MINIMUM. It feels weird and sad to see it go...

Is there a way to make Lemmy links open in a new browser tab?
I'd love to be able to click on a link and have it open in a new tab rather than in the current tab, without having to specifically right-click and tell it to do so. This was the behavior I had set up back on reddit, though I don't recall if that was a built-in feature or part of RES, and it makes browsing a lot more convenient.
I tried the salmon hot dogs - a brief review
Summary:
Just tried the salmon hot dogs, and they weren't bad at all. I would definitely eat them again. Flavor-wise, they basically just taste like generic supermarket hot dogs (with a very subtle fishiness depending on preparation, see below), and if you didn't know before biting into one, you might not know they were made from salmon. That said, they are a little bit different from most dogs texturally, which I didn't mind but might put off true "purists" I guess.
To go into more detail:
First, I forgot to pick up hot dog buns, so I just ate them with a fork. Honestly, for a taste test that's probably better anyway, as I was focused solely on the experience of the hot dogs themselves. I had read a review online that suggested that cooking them with direct heat (grilling, pan frying, etc) resulted in a "fishier" taste than boiling or steaming them, so I decided to boil one and pan fry the other and compare.
Pan-frying:
I did this one first while waiting for the water to boil. Note that these are caseless franks - they are molded into shape and do not have any sort of casing on them. This is important because while the pan-fried salmon dogs do brown nicely, they won't get that "snap" that you get with a casing. In the end, the texture was a little bit spongier than a typical dog, though not unpleasantly so especially with the browning along the outside. The flavor, as I said, is very typical of any supermarket hot dog, but there definitely is a slight salmon-y flavor that comes through. I'm not sure if you'd notice if you didn't already know, though. You might notice something a little weird and not quite be able to place it. Anyway, I like salmon, so it didn't bother me, but it's important to note it. When I ate the dog with pickle relish (my condiment of choice), I couldn't taste the salmon flavor at all. I think it's just too subtle to stand up to any standard condiment.
Boiling:
No fishiness/salmon-y flavor AT ALL. Very interesting. I wonder if it's because the frying/browning intensifies the flavor, or if the boiling water leaches it out. In any case, if you boil these dogs it goes away entirely. Unfortunately, for my taste the texture is notably less pleasant than with pan frying. There's no browning, of course, so you don't get any part of the hot dog firming up, and the end result is noticeably spongier than when pan fried. Almost, but not quite, like a fish cake that you might get in high quality hot pot or ramen.
Overall, I would eat these again. I prefer the pan fried version, as I think the texture is much better than with boiling. And the salmon flavor doesn't bother me and is subtle enough to disappear under any condiments. So long as you don't hate/aren't allergic to salmon, I'd say give these a try. I haven't compared the nutritional information to other hot dogs, but I imagine they are a bit healthier, and are a good substitute if you are avoiding pork or beef.

I stumbled upon salmon hot dogs at Whole Foods today while grocery shopping, and because I'm a weirdo I had to pick up a pack to try them. Haven't yet, because they came frozen (they were in the frozen seafood case), but I left them in the fridge to defrost so I can try them tomorrow. I'll make sure to report back how they are.
Anyone else run into them and tried them yet?
