Very proud Dad moment: My kid's daycare has a little kiddy pool with colour ball pit balls in them. I've been so excited for him to be old enough to go in it. After 6-ish months proud to report he is. And he was DELIGHTED, the excitement on his face was unreal. So happy for him.
Power was out for 7 days - ausnet can’t even get their website working to put in a claim. Some people still have their power out, running a generator costs a fortune (despite having it off overnight)
__ Its new NOTEBOOK day folks! Full of potential and wonder - will this be the journal that gets me organised? Will it be neat (no, it won't)? Will i actually use the index at the front ?
I have a meeting this arvo for one of those initiatives that is really busywork to make the higher-ups look good. Will be actively working on not rolling my eyes.
Thanks friend!! I think it went okay, but some of the questions seemed like they were tailored to someone else. I may have been the 3rd or 4th candidate to make up numbers as they had a preferred one already. Still a good experience thought.
I'll happily roll my eyes here on your behalf. I'm involved in a fair few of such initiatives myself, and cringe is an understatement.
Have ouchy finger. Tripped and fell a few days ago and took a large chunk of skin and nail off my middle finger (why is it always that finger?). I was crossing the road where I shouldn't have been and tripped over a stupid manhole thing in the middle of the road and I am an idiot 😔.
Sleeping when it’s hot is so uncomfortable, feel sorry for those without aircon. But I’m the opposite, I think we’ve actually had a fairly moderate Summer overall. I remember the drought years when it was normal to get a run of 35+ for a few days in a row, and at least several 40+ days through Jan and Feb. This year we have had none.
I meant now is hotter than it ever got through the middle of this particular summer! You're right, it has definitely been milder than past ones which might be why I'm really feeling it now. I've been pretty grateful not to have had those days of heatwaves.
The grandparents are visiting and helping to mind the kids for the next two days. These little buggers are getting a bit too much to handle on their own
Uhhhh there's an uber eats looking bag at my door for some dude called david, nobody called david lives here (and as far as I can tell, never has). No receipt on the outside of the bag and it's stapled and taped shut. Does this count as mail? Am I going to jail if I open it? I don't even know how long it's been there, I didn't hear anybody come up the stairs
Edit: I decided to open it to see if there was a receipt or a restaurant name or something, it's literally a white paper bag that says "KEBAB" in a brown paper bag. No shop name, doesn't even say if it's uber eats or door dash or whatever.
Oo never been visited by the kebab fairy before! Although I'm not sure how much I trust a fairy to make a good kebab. It's a well known fact that the best kebabs come from a bloke covered head to toe in hair with a thick Lebanese accent who calls you friend at least twice per sentence and says he's doing you a good deal. of course, for this to be true he also needs to be working out of a very small food truck parked in front of the dodgiest servo in the dodgiest part of town
I went for a walk at lunch. It's heating up out there. I've got in early and pulled a WFH for tomorrow - the city doesn't need one more sweaty grumpy person on public transport in high-thirties heat.
I saw the movie Poor Things. Dark fantastical comedy/social commentary done very well. Kooky aetherics, excellent costumes and brilliant acting from Emma Stone.
It's getting a bit warm out there already. Mr Woof and I just had a short walk to drop off some garden produce at the food cupboard, I wouldn't want to go for a much longer walk at the moment, especially in the sun.
Sometimes I like to go look at animal adoption sites, I like finding the animal with the silliest name and photo. Today I thought I'd look at the Pet Rescue which is not my usual place to look, and WTF is with their adoption fees! Maybe I'm being unreasonable but up to $1.5k to adopt a dog... There were 400+ listed in VIC alone, and I can kind of understand why! For that much you could go get a brand new puppy sans all the issues that come with adopting a potentially mistreated dog.
I get it's probably to deter people from making rash decisions, also folks who can afford to drop that much can also probably afford to care for the dog, and making sure that the dog goes to a good home, but it just seems insane to me.
Edit - I listed the wrong site. Sorry to The Lost Dogs Home for that one. Yikes to me!
Hey, you will see the occasional bonkers looking fee from places like Lost Dogs when they are certain the cat is pedigree even without papers. I don’t blame them. Some of those cats have specific needs and people can be made pause on ‘but pretty’ by the price.
I see nothing wrong with the mogs being more affordable at checkout.
