  • I sadly think that just secured a MAGA victory. When I saw the photo of a triumphant Trump leaving the stage whilst fist pumping and bleeding, I thought OMG this is going to send MAGA supporters even deeper into blind frenzy hero worship. Project 2025 here we go.

  • Oh nah. Woke up to the sounds of something scurrying and scratching in the roof. Possums? Rats? We get possums quite regularly but the sound they make is a bit of a thud when they run across the roof, and this sound Is different, like something is inside the roof.

  • Did a big clean out of shed and garage. Lots of old stuff stored there that is ready for rubbish. Bin full so some will have to wait for next week. Feels very satisfying. I’m feeling dusty and cold so time for a shower and then relax in front of tv with show or movie.

  • Test it first, some chemical cleaners can be too strong and ‘melt’ plastic. (Not melt but will etch it or make it sticky). However cleaning agents can only ever remove the surface smells. Depending on the type of plastic (ie the ingredients the plastic is made of) it may smell for a shorter/longer time as the smells slowly dissipate. Some plastics can smell years later, some are fairly inert smelling after a few days.

  • It’s probably plasticisers and other VOCs coming out of the freshly made plastic. Something with degreasing ability will get the surface stuff off (like a kitchen spray, dish soap, windex, etc) but since the smells are embedded in the plastic itself, it may take some time for the smell to dissipate completely. Leave out side to air out for a week.

  • It’s not the shopping, it’s not the cooking. It’s thinking what to cook and cleanup that tires me. I know someone that eats the same meal on each night, eg pasta Monday, taco Tuesday etc. Planning is easier sure but I think the boredom would kill me. And the endless life chore of dishes is soul sucking.

  • Plenty. But unfortunately in this case it was already known that the owner was not operating a safe workplace. So once the fatality occurred worksafe would have investigated, given notices to fix the problems, and can order the place to shut down until issues fixed if the risks are high enough. Something has gone wrong with that process if the place caught fire again.

  • That would make me feel so ick. Throw out your toothbrush. Bleach the hell out of the toilet. It feels so violating to have someone in your house. Hopefully you can talk to someone about how to improve security in the house? Will they provide that in the housing you’re in? Like does it have security door (like this mesh ones)? Lockable windows?

  • I’m so sorry. What an awful thing to happen. I don’t know why people are like that. Do they feel good to trash someone stuff? Why??? Hopefully police will be helpful. Even if they aren’t, you’ll be doing the right thing to report it.

  • Rat control

This year I grew tomatoes, and found rats are stealing them. I am certain it’s rats because I have seen them. Have tried netting the tomato plants, but rats found ways in. Called an exterminator to bait in the roof and under house. Feel ambivalent about it, because if a predator bird takes an affected rat it may get ill. But I’m located deep in suburbia and have never seen an owl or eagle so I think it’s unlikely. Didn’t work though, still have rats. Have given up on the tomatoes, plants are destroyed. What are your strategies for ridding yourself of ratty pestilences?

Which Australian recipe sites do you recommend?

Looking for inspiration. Which Australian food sites, bloggers, youtube, social media do you frequent? The places you go for ideas and recipes. I love Nagi (recipe tin eats), and occasionally browse Taste and SBS food. What are some others to look at?
