What a day. My 14 yo doggo had unfortunately passed away this morning - thought it was strange he wasn't sitting out in the sun which he usually does every sunny day. Such a gentle dog he was since getting him as a 3 month old pup in 2009, will surely miss him
One thing I don't love about Vegas is that my poor pink squishy lungs have become more sensitive to cigarette smoke over the years due to people not being able to smoke everywhere anymore, but in Vegas tobacco is caked into the place and people can smoke on casino floors.
I don't miss the morning headache which comes with being around that horrible shit. Cigarette smokers can get in the bin.
What a beautiful sunny day, Bill Cat is out on the terrace soaking up the rays an I'll go for a walk later. 🤗😊 I tried to get the cat tax but as soon as I come near Bill gets up for a cuddle.
Also, MIL an BIL are coming over for dinner, I've got all my mushroom clothes on. 🍄🤭
The dumb lamp next to my hotel bed has power outlets but my phone charger is too tall for it.. but I finally found an actual use for something you'll find in just about every hotel room. Thanks, Gideons!
Then Brad said.. "Let there be phone charging" and there was phone charging. And Brad saw that the phone charging was good.
I didn't know that they still sold phones in the country. The last time I saw them do anything at all was when they sold the 5, and they more or less went quiet since.
Urrrgh. Another broken night's sleep as Zooks came in at about 3 and started snuggling hard with bonus headbutts.
Got the idea about an hour or so of it to turn the heater on and got to sleep until about 8, when she decided it was time for her morning snuggle and 'feed me bitch' nip.
Remind me to leave the heater on low tonight if it's gonna be this cold again.
Yoooo driving the Western at night from out near the 'rat really hits different.
It feels like being in a space time warp with the winding bits, fast speeds and lack of identifying features for the most part due to it being pitch black.
Dinner was very ordinary, for someone's birthday. Good company, but very mediocre unimaginative pub fare, at the usual inflated prices ($28 for some reheated frozen crumbed calamari, bland chips and premade basic arse salad) Around 6pm a more sweary group of families started rocking up, rattails and all, I'm wondering why anyone would come here for dinner when it's so expensive... Then when I go up to pay I notice behind the counter/bar, a cave of pokies machines and some plastered punters just mindlessly pressing buttons and knobs. I don't care if it comes across as classist, fuck pokies subsidising mediocrity (among other things). I normally make it a point to avoid ever patronising a place with pokies, I didn't know that about this place but I'll definitely avoid it if it ever gets suggested again
I feel like there's still plenty of places including more alternative pubs that could've done a better feed for the prices offered :/ I think their selling point was the venue (golf club). But then the ambiance gets ruined by the pokies...
I have visited the 24h dispensary and have night night gummies for sleepy time. We need to get Dan onto this.. friggin nerds keeping us from yummy ni nighs squishies.
Also when you legalise it, you get genius products like this:
I'm actually down south about an hour and a half from Vegas in a little town called Laughlin for the next few days. The reviews for the dispensary were glowing though and I can see why. Very nice.
In other news, finally feeling better from that flu. Got a haircut, wrote some lyrics for my EP and about to smash some guitar and video games. Life is good ❤️
EOI letter written and sent! It was mostly bland and vague, but I'm not super invested in the position anyway, it would only provide me with a mark that says I can manage a larger group than I already am.
Went for a walk and got my anti-baby meds, so I can get rawdogged without fear of also getting preggo (no offence to the parents here, but my uterus shall remain devoid and barren tyvm lol).
The sunshine is much needed, as is the blue skies and hearing a busker sing Wicked Game. Today is a damn fine day!
Bet it was a mynah. They're feisty buggers. Every time my dog goes to our local park she's surrounded by a squadron of loudly swearing mynahs swooping her, to which she is hilariously oblivious.
Nope, from what little I saw it was larger than a mynah, a warm tannish brown with white spots on the belly and wings. It might have had some kind of eyeliner.
I’ll have to spend longer and listen to calls but google thinks it might be a kind of starling
Continuing with the ugh, my legs are sore. 13k walked yesterday. I aimed to get to ten but I pace around the flat a lot. Washing / some sorting of old papers and some hours on the bed/couch thing watching star trek with the cats and maybe a little walk to the beach, cos the weather is so perfect. It's sunscreen weather now folks. But I realise now I have probably thrown out my bb cream. Shit.
So I've made it into NSW proper this time (not just walking to the border, but actually being in a NSW town). Everything here is just very slightly different but in a way that feels somewhat... Creepy? The footpaths are a little more crooked, the signs are almost the same but laid out differently, they sometimes put turning lights when they only need to show red and nothing else (mainly right turns) on top of the regular traffic lights so they become 4 light signals. Even though railway wise, they use 2 position signalling here rather than the 3 we use in Vic
I love and hate this at the same time. I've got no clue why it makes me feel creeped out, but it's sort of like being in a realistic dream but everything is just a tiny bit off.
I didn't actually know that was a thing. But yeah that seems pretty annoying. I also noticed that if a pedestrian is waiting to cross and gets a green man, all vehicle lights will stay red until the red man starts flashing, which is pretty cool though I do see how it could be annoying for drivers. Unfortunately that doesn't provide as much protection as you'd think, because their pedestrian timings are completely whack, at least here in Albury. I've crossed ~9 signalised pedestrian crossings today, and on not one of them have I made it to the middle island before the man starts flashing
Back in the 80s I had to take a business trip to Hobart. One thing that really jarred me, was really weird, was that EVERYONE on the street was a blonde or a shade of blonde. Even Myers had racks and racks of blue clothes, bugger all red clothes and any brunette on the street really stood out. I was kinda shocked. Has probably changed now though.
Man Tom Waits had a beautiful voice when he was younger. Not that his later voice is bad, just the opposite you know. Early = soft crooner, later = gravelly piano bar singer at closing time.
Exercises have been completed. It's amazing how guilty I feel if I haven't done them, I feel like I'm not doing that good thing for myself that makes up for the years of self neglect.
Took the Minipeelers to Barkly Square today and wandered around that part of Brunswick, which I love. Went to Juanita Peaches/All Day Donuts (yum) and Schnitz (Minipeelers choice). The children were fascinated by the protest being held near Dangerfield to promote the "yes" vote (they haven't seen many protests) so we had a chat about that, and it was interesting to hear their views.
We went to Kmart and the Elder Minipeeler cringed at the designs on the boys clothes ("sk8r vibes 🤙" and such) while the Miniest Peeler cringed at the designs on the girls clothes ("summer love" and "bestie 🩷" for example). She said the girls clothing section looked like unicorn poop 😂 We did grab some stuff like a basketball to muck around at the park.
It was just such a lovely day for wandering around, and I really enjoyed it!
Hurry up and download the menu

Perth is weird when it comes to Covid. We rode out 2020 and 2021 mostly as normal (with closed borders). A few tiny outbreaks but it never got a real toehold. It's so different to the Melbourne experience.
Then when we had 95% vaccination rate, the border opened up at the start of 2022. Over the year, we mostly caught up with the rest of Australia with cases / deaths thanks to Omicron. Case numbers before Omicron pale in comparison, and we had a level playing field for that variant. The mentality of the local population is still mostly that we rode through the pandemic practically untouched. Despite the fact that most of us contracted the virus at some point and recovered.
People really don't take the virus seriously here at all. We never really had a proper lockdown. Just a few minor "stay at home please" periods. It's super rare to see anyone masked these days. We really only wore them for a few weeks after each of the mini outbreaks.
I think my skin is too thin
I worry I don't fit in
Despite not being entirely sure what that means
I know I'm more than I seem, I dream
I scream, I'm not sure who I am
But I like the way I look
In the mirror, still I'm shook
Connections are difficult
Constant fear of ridicule
Which never manifests
I'm the best, this is a test
They're my friends too, they like me
They're open with their admiration of me
But still, I worry I'm not good enough
To be around people I love and trust
I must be more than the sum of my past.
Large serve of vanilla yoghurt, two coffees, my anti-androgen pill half , three oestrogen tablets and two nicotine lozenges thanks boss. Who said I don't take drugs?
Arborist - yes, but expect to get absolutely flogged for the first few years. You'll not need to do any sort of fitness/health stuff in your own time, work will take care of that. Learn to climb early, get in school early so you can be ready for the next step when your body gives out. Learn about ecology, learn about climate change. Learn about tree risk assessments, get a good spiel for convincing people that tree risk is incredibly low. Plant trees.
Public servant, absolutely a good starting place, however largerly due to the application process it's riddled with nepotism and a lot of "not what you know, but who you know".
Depends what they were seeking to do with the rest of their career. I like my gourmet food manufacturing gig. It pays the bills, it's a great team and the work takes up its alloted time only. If you were looking to gain the kind of experience which would put you in a good place to start your own business, or go work for a much bigger manufacturer that offers more in terms of promotions etc, then it's potentially useful. It wasn't my purpose though; I just wanted a job that didn't take too much time away from my family, was local to where I live and was in an industry I care about. It had the advantage of being lockdown and recession proof, and a reliable source of work.
Melbcat is suffering the after effects of too much red meat. 😔 Feeding her pumpkin puree and osmolax with plenty of extra fluid, perhaps we try to get in with the vet on Monday if things don’t resolve.
I found the missing jigsaw puzzle pieces!! They were in my oodie pocket, they must have fallen in there last night. Puzzle is already broken up and packed away. 🥺🙄🥴
I had a very interesting dinner with narcissistic MIL. No I did not wear my mushroom gear. First, I refused to let her eat from my plate. She was angry and tried to shame me, implying I'm selfish. Truly, I just don't want her germs, plus, it's my dinner.
Then back at home she got angrier and angrier when me and BIL were playing records, having fun and laughing. ( we were in in the other room )
BIL ask her if she has a problem getting her netflix cut off. We told him we have been paying her tv subscriptions for years and there shouldn't be a problem. BIL was surprised cos MIL tells every one we don't look after her. MIL didn't even say thank you about the bills.
She likes it when I sit alone and she gets to talk to the rest of the family but I wasn't. She ended just sitting there angry then left for home.
I've seen the trailer for Meg 2, the amount of wood, boats, jetskis etc. that these sharks seem to eat would break the immersion for me. Like wtf, they're big but come on. They can't digest jet skis
Checks pulse...padam, padam. Yup.
I loved her last album but this one just does nothing for me. I think it's a little bit too electronic for me and doesn't have enough more organic elements. I also find her vocal performance a bit...diminished?
There is one exception though. There's a track called running that's all over YouTube that was allegedly cut from the album which is a real shame.
My heart swells at the thought of your touch
Pumping hard causing a headrush
My words turn to mush
I jumble all of my lines
I don't care I'm fine
I just want to feel your lips on mine.
damn got suggested to check this place out and after checking a bunch of the daily threads y'all just constant state of bad cooking and depression might as well be facebook over here 😭
Really? I see travel, random questions, obligatory PTV complaints, cooking seems kind of fine to me, you know potayto/potahto and ppl just doing their best.
We can comment/chat about anything. What would you like to chat about?
I don’t really see it like that. Lots of people feel positive interacting here. We like to share our ups as well as downs. And the cooking photos are great fun. Lots of supportive people here, but if it’s not your vibe, then that’s ok.
