Been speaking to the old man about the shed he had built a few years ago. It was flooded in '19 because the neighbour's sprinkler system ran non stop for weeks. I had to climb over and turn it off because the council and yarra water were hopeless (this isn't the point though). It was a serious amount of water that made its way 2 doors down.
Anyway he's in a little email argument with the other neighbour because he thinks it's that guys fault. The wall is disintegrating and the hydrometer is maxxed out.
I genuinely believe it was the massive flooding event from the other neighbour right before 3 b2b la ninas that super saturated everything so it's a series of compounding events.
In explaining this I said "the theory that holds the most water". Completely lost on him..
So to all you bad pun people, I see you and you are appreciated. It's a tough crowd out there.
Slightly relevant and quite interesting imo. Google 'Wayne tank principle' if you want to read about legal interpretations of damage that has been caused by multiple different events, one event being covered by insurance, one excluded. How to determine liability?
Found out that a newer work colleague, who I haven't had much to do with before, is actually struggling a lot emotionally, and is insanely isolated with no idea how to navigate the situation. I had no idea and I felt awful that I had never checked in with her or realised what was going on amidst my own troubles.
We had a very long chat that made me reflect on a lot of things I'd been through more recently, and how severe the impact of poor post-lockdown workplace team management can be on individuals, especially recent arrivals to the country. I know we all like to talk about the benefits of WFH but professional isolation really sucks arse.
I left my earphone case in the back of an Uber yesterday morning, didn't realise until I got home last night because I thought I'd left the case at home, I also had been wearing one earphone. Lol. Luckily I called the driver and he had the case (and the other earphone) and he made it to South Melbourne tonight and dropped them off to me.
Thought I was gonna throw up or pass out on the train. Stood up and went to the door intending to get off and go home. But by the time I got to the next station I was ok. Just knowing I was gonna go home slowly calmed it all down. New powerful kind of panic attack?
I cut up some sweet potat, steamed/fried it, dumped in some butter and Kippers, added pepper and hotsauce, covered in ungodly amount of cheese.very yum
Off to a bad start this morning. Really agitated and quite angry at the way a staff member spoke to me and patronized me.
I'd heard rumors how some of them are quite nasty and I think I just encountered it for one of the first time from this people from a certain team.
Anyway about to go outside. Going to take a deep breath and clear my mind while on my duty for an hour and enjoy the fresh smell of rain if it decides to fall.
They regularly kill it with some pretty good basics. Some miss the mark tho. They recently had bulk dishwasher tabs that were more expensive than their own brand.
Exercises completed whilst looking out window at dreary weather. I kinda like it if the kids don't complain about it, which they didn't this morning. They did complain about the cheap shit umbrellas I bought. Elder peeler said, "why do you always buy such cheap shit umbrellas?" and I said "they pretty much all are, or about 95% of the umbrellas I've encountered are." Good umbrellas are either super exy compared to a cheap one or basically an antique like the one I inherited from my Pop, (super large, hand stitched, leather handle) which I don't take out often because I'm paranoid about losing it. Looks like I've gotta buy more umbrellas!
Where's everyone buying their secondhand books online these days? A lot of the ones I was using are American, and the price difference and shipping costs are making it all far less economical.
Umโฆ why am I geoblocked from the Coles site? Nothing has changed, I ordered recently and I donโt have a VPN.
Go home Coles. Youโre drunk.
Edit: itโs changed to being down for maintenance which eases my mind a bit. Coles, buddy, you could have just said that and spared me a heart attack. Especially as Woollies also seems to not be working at the same time.
Last night the kid ask if I knew any Australian artists. I kept it real simple for her while she googled examples.
Fredrick McCubbin - Landscapes predominantly of the Macedon Ranges. Includes browns, khakis, more brown and a hint of off white.
Brett Whiteley - Interesting work. Famous for his big wall of scribble.
Ken Done - Vibrant colours. Reprints include doona covers, coasters and jumpers.
Pro Hart - Just google Pro Hart carpet ad
Sidney Nolan - A child's paintings of Ned Kelly.
After that she felt much better about the artwork she had been submitting.
The other day she was pacing up and down and when I asked her what she was doing she replied "I'm creating artwork". It turns out that the class had to choose their favourite artist and submit work that matched said artist. She printed out her steps in different colours and presented it as a "Jackson Pollock inspired piece". The teacher praised her for her creativity.
I'm trying to get on to Whitehorse Music but they don't seem to ever answer their phone. Can anyone recommend a string instrument shop in the inner north-ish area? Need to get a violin restrung as a viola.
Russia has an amazingly rich cultural heritage. Which has been excluded from the west by the US. Most of the music I listen to comes from either russia or ukraine. The war is shit. But Russophobia is real. While people lap up any kind of crap from the US, I always remember more than half the people who voted, voted for trump not long ago. Russian people don't have that choice. They are gaslit and terrorised by criminals into having to live lives of poverty. I'm definitely all sunshine and lollipops today huh? I'll try and be more positive tomorrow.
I don't know if it's any consolation but less than half the voters voted for President Trump in 2016. Their democratic system is broken, but their politicians won't fix it because the broken system keeps them in power.
Total votes for Donald Trump in 2016: 62,984,828 (46.1%)
Total votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016: 65,383,514 (48.2%)
What do you think about asking on online retailer to refund a portion of your order if they put the products you bought on sale just a couple days later?
I have a friend who is intense with money, like bordering r/beggingchoosers material, and I'm always surprised how many retailers will actually send her samples, discount codes, or whatever else.
As long as youโre polite I donโt see any harm in asking. Unless itโs a small business where thereโs just one owner operator doing small solo trading.
Hmm this is tricky. I know that some like videogame store fronts will offer to refunded price but into your wallet. But not too sure about retailers. They might just offer a coupon or a discount for a future item.

Debating whether or not to do a Coles run, just nip up to the corner Foodworks for a couple of things or just put it off until tomorrow.
It doesn't help that Sammi keeps clamping herself to my legs.
It's going to be funny by me saying this as I not only play games but I also write for an online publication about video games. But the fact that there are some games out there asking for more money just so you can... what, play 6 days earlier is asinine!
Partner asked if I pre-loaded Starfield and I said yes, I'm so keen for this game of course, I'm going to preload it. But it's on Xbox Game Pass (PC) where it's "free"-ish (I mean I'm spending $10 a month so it's not entirely free but it's not like I'm shelling out $100 for a new game), found out that if you buy the deluxe version you can play the game this Friday instead of next Wednesday. Looked up the cost and it's $170 for the "deluxe" version, whereas the standard edition is $120. I am not shelling out $170 just to play a game 5 days earlier. But not only that, but Jesus Christ video games are expensive. I totally get the fact that their pricing hasn't really changed and that it used to be $80 in the 90s and that was expensive. But wages haven't really gone up, we're in a cost of living crisis, still dealing with the pandemic, etc. The fact that it's even an option to pay $170 to play a video game 5 days before it "officially" comes out is just... I cannot believe it, but it's not really shocking in the grand scheme of things.
And people will bite at that price just to play it a few days earlier.
I donโt know if theyโll be allowed to stream it in those 5 days but that could equal a lot of money for them which theyโll make back in no time.
Iโve already seen threads somewhere of people finding the cheapest option to upgrade to deluxe. I think it involves going to the Turkish regional store?
I didnโt look too much into it as I was just scanning discussions.
I did find a way to upgrade to the deluxe version for $60 but I don't know if that is like if you've bought the base game? Because I'm playing it through Xbox Game Pass, so I haven't actually "bought" the game so to speak. I don't know.
It's why I left behind LoL, anything made by Acti-Blizz, EA, Ubisoft, etc. Too many microtransactions (and player toxicity) and these FOMO-inducing 'offers' and 'deals'.
I find I have been a much happier time playing indie games, or CRPGs (bg3 now, but a huge fan of Obsidian, Paradox, and Larian). Moving away from the other devs/publishers I mentioned before has done wonders for my mental health and gaming motivation
Yeah I've stopped playing Activision-Blizzard stuff before the Hong Kong Protests but that sort of cemented it with the BlitzChung situation. And then the whole sexual assault that really drove it into the ground (really happy to hear OW2 is the lowest rated game, I mean I do feel bad for the devs but...). Since I've started reviewing games, I've actually enjoyed playing more indie games. I haven't been able to review a lot of the big triple A titles because they don't give out a lot of review codes, like Nintendo only gave out 2 codes for I think Sword and Shield, and that obviously went to IGN Aus and Press Start because they're the biggest online publications (which iunno, is weird that IGN has all these different location sites and you'll see on Metacritic like so many IGN reviews. I get it for countries that don't speak English, but do y'all really need an IGN, IGN Australia, IGN UK, it's unnecessary).
But yeah, most of the games I've reviewed have been indies, some like big indies like Coffee Talk 2 and Blanc, and some smaller ones like Best Month Ever! and RE:Call. Though I have been able to do features on games from big studios, specifically Sony. Was able to sort of "review" but not a scored review of Spider-Man PS4 on PC, Ratchet and Clank and Sackboy. The only other triple A studio I can think of that I did a review for was Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires from Koei, but they're not like "Western" big.
Also I'm so glad you can get BG3 working! I've finally finished act 2 after playing it for 80 hours. I had to go back to the start to save a character because the first mini boss of the final battle in act 2 was so freaking difficult. But man, the performance issues are bad.
The devs know there's plenty of rich people who need to have things before everyone else. I still haven't played cyberpunk as it would mean upgrading my graphics card, which still works great despite being a 690 and basically a vintage card now. But the fan crap before that game was insane. I remember speaking to loads of people who bought new systems for it. Then it dropped and the hype died after a month. They still have their insane systems they love of course.
There are still quite a lot of new games which run perfectly on my 1280p monitor and look amazing. Sure, there's better experiences to be had I'm sure, but for someone who still plays minecraft most of all and isn't worried about when gta6 will drop why upgrade until the 690 tanks?
Man I was so keen for Cyberpunk, but then after a lot of the trans stuff came out, I got less and less excited. I did end up playing it (you can probably deduce how I got it) and like it was okay???? It ran fine on my computer, but yeah glitches galore. Nothing game breaking but yeah. You are honestly not missing out. I know that they're getting a new expansion soon, where they're going to update everything that'll be interesting.
Yeah I don't have like the best specs, but my rig isn't dogshit. I just need an SSD because apparently all games now need that to run on (seriously, BG3's performance is so bad, yet the detect graphics will always put it on ultra).
It's a lot hey. It's one of the most in depth bits of reporting I've ever read or listened to around this subject. I still haven't made it through the last episode
I just looked it up... urgh. I just couldn't. I have two close friends with DID and know casually a couple more. Plus all the women I've known with BPD as a result of childhood abuse. The less I know about this stuff the better, I just try and be the best friend I can to them I'm glad there are people out there trying to stop it. That the catholic church is trying to weasel their way out of admitting that were basically a worldwide pedo ring is something else I try not to think about too much. I'm a part of the me too group as well, but all my abuse was at the hands of gay men. It's still something we're still not talking about because no one wants to be seen as homophobic, but so many of them are absolute fucking pigs to women and trans people. We're supposed to be united under the queer umbrella but I keep hearing whispers about trans breaking away because we only really support each other. Hate to say it, but its mostly men. Not all men but too many.
end rant, it's been a constant source of pain this year as abuse and cover ups ruined my music career.
God I wish this flu/cold would bugger off. Meant to be meeting clients rest of the week and I sound like I've been smoking a pack every 20 mins for the last 10 years.

Today I got two interesting vinyls from the opshop, a very old Melodiya ( label of the USSR ) of the Alexandrov ensemble, it's amazing, like listening to Dr Zhivago music for reals. 5 hobbits. And a USSR Radio orchestra ( the same orchestra that's in the movie "The Death of Stalin ) plays Mendelssohn.
