Hey there guys! After today's fiasco, I decided that we need some moderators that aren't me or Ada. If you would like to be a moderator, please reply to this post with why you think you would be a good mod, and any previous social medias that I can check out just to make sure you're not a troll (reddit is the most useful but twitter/mastodon/whatever works too).
Well I'm glad this is happening I was just trying to reply to your previous post but it turned out it was removed in the process of me writing the comment. The short of it was that a community of almost 10k needs more than one mod, because while there are three mod accounts two are you and the third is a dead account. Please do your absolute best when deciding who to give moderation control over 196 as I don't doubt there will almost certainly be bad actors who try to get mod so they can sabotage this place, it sure wouldn't be the first time this community has been targeted.
Yeah totally. I've needed more moderators for a while now, but I've been really worried about bad actors. I know what might seem drastic to some to ask for alternate socials and shit but seriously I feel like its more than necessary at this point
To me it feels like you take this seriously and are invested in the community, which I love to see.
I hope it gets easier with new helping hands and I really like this instance, thank you for your amazing work
I'm a former moderator of reddit's nonbinary meme sub, and current moderator of chaotes vs patriarchy and soulism 101. Very left, and very plugged into forms of ableism and transphobia that might not be apparent to the vast majority of people.
Welcome aboard! Here's the rules: join the discord link I sent you via DM. If you feel someone deserves to be banned please send their username/a screenshot of them to the discord, along with why they need to be banned i.e. image of their comment reason:transphobia. Then you can go ahead and ban them. If I end up feeling like it's not actually a bannable offense I'll go in and restore them to the community. Also, no making other people mods.

Just a heads up, once a mod marks a report as resolved, the admins won't see it, so if someone needs to be banned from the whole instance, make sure you drop me a DM
Not sure how many mods you're looking to add but I'd like to help out. I'm a speech/debate coach for elementary through college level competors so while I don't have moderating experience online I perform very similar duties on my day-to-day jobs... You would not believe the shit that comes out of the mouths of 9y/o children.... Before migrating over to federated systems, on reddit I was u/AudioBoss. I'm a dirty trans commie (they/them); I don't fuck with tankies, fascists, TERFs, etc. I got halfway through a masters program in human communication with an emphasis on critical/cultural studies (studies of activism, oppressive systems, meta-studies of Academia, etc) before dropping out to raise a kid coming in January.
I work with kids so I have a ton of viable experience towards moderating you all /j
Questions: how much time would you expect each mod to dedicate each day or week? How often (if ever) would the mods discuss the community?
Oh kickass
In terms of time commitment, it's really just logging on whenever you feel like it and checking what's in the mod panel. Usually it's one or two things but every now and then there will be some troll inflection or whatever so having more moderators to nip stuff like that in the bud is useful. Anyways here's the copypasta:

I would be happy to assist in modding during my free time :)
On reddit, I went by u/thiamari, and on twitter, I’m @ItsCynthiaTime. I’ve since abandoned reddit and only post on twitter occasionally, never browse.
I really enjoy being in the 196 community, and I wouldn’t mind helping out with some stuff if it means more people will post, making the community better :3
I’ll volunteer as tribute. I might be good moderator because I am a nearly professional lurker and strongly prefer my social networks supportive and funny and not overrun with bad. My Reddit account is u/buttercup614 for background check purposes.
Off the bat I can tell you I have never been a mod before but I am mostly active between 9pm and 6am cst so anything that gets posted late at night I can remove before most people would get to even see it.
I've never modded. I don't have a extensive post history that you can check out. But I sure as heck wouldn't let bigotry flood my favorite shitposting sub.
Hey, I'd be happy to mod. I have a decent amount of free time and I have had some experience moderating in the past, including one small subreddit where I had to deal with regular brigading and trolls.
Reddit: u/piraka-the-plant (also u/pirakaplant but I deleted that account after Reddit decided I was being very mean to a certain human trafficker and permanently suspended it)
I'll volunteer, I don't have a ton of free time but it would be enough to help here. I'd say I've been pretty active on Lemmy Blahaj, so I know how it works around here and I was also very active on 196, it helped me realize I was trans myself. I mod a discord server with a little over 1,000 members so I could probably do pretty well modding here.
I generally would love to, but I just have way too much on my plate right now and not the time to really focus on it.
Mainly just writing this here so I might reference it sometimes in the future haha.
Good luck on your search though :)
You can, moderator reports are handled through the Modlog which is federated. I'm speaking from experience, I've moderated [email protected] from two instances at this point, neither of which were lemmy.world.
In that case, I’d like to volunteer. I‘d like to contribute to the fediverse in a way that makes a difference. I want to see these communities grow. I spent 12 years (nearly half my life) on Reddit and never did much. I hope 12 years from now Lemmy will have grown in a way that’s healthy.
I'd like to be a mod for this community. In terms of why I'm a good fit, I really like the c/196 community and the positivity with which it shitposts, and I will apply full discretion to remove nazis, trolls, bigots, and other troublemakers from our community. In terms of social media, I'm active with this account, I have activity on my alt @[email protected], and my Reddit username from before I migrated over is u/TheSaneWriter. Though I wasn't the most active user, I still participated here and there over the few years I spent on Reddit.
I know I'm late and you've probably picked up enough many people already. Either way, here's my Linktree. Instagram, which I use "the most" bcs that's where my friends are, is at the bottom.
I avoid social media for the most part, but I've taken to 196 and Lemmy a lot.
Everything I've seen from the mods makes me think we'd agree on pretty much everything. I'd love to help where I can and meet cool new people in the process.
Whether or not I'm even needed I can at least use the fact I have your attention to thank you for upkeeping one of the best & funniest queer-friendly spaces I've found. Much love :)
I only saw this post today but I would like to be a mod.
I spend about 1-2 hours a day on Lemmy and could use that to mod this community.
I don't have any other social media to show but you can look at my post/comment history here on lemmy if you'd like
I am a human adult with a job, I will give an average amount of effort but I'm also honest about it. My handle on Reddit was Vlaxxtocia because my finger slipped and I didn't notice until I'd already liked a bunch of shit and didn't want to start over
I've had experience moderating niche message boards that often got spammed with sometimes hateful stuff, so I can look at reports and delete any bigoted/jerkass content to spare others. Anything beyond obviously harmful content, I'd prefer to leave to delegate to others unless there is a community guidelines that makes it clear what kind of stuff is/n't allowed.
