"Meet the Calmlings" - what does the recurring melody remind me of?
tl;dr I came across this today. There is a theme that reminds me of a slowed down version of something else but I can't place it. Help!

It's dessert time, what's your perfect post-dinner treat?
My weakness is tiramisu, it's so frickin good. Hook me up with a piece of that and I'm in heaven.
But what about you, what dessert item really moves your meter?

Lemmy cookie expiring and forgetting, well, everything?
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I didn't find mention of it. I use old.lemmy.world as my interface and I've noticed that roughly every month I'm:
- Forcibly logged out and have to do the re-auth dance for no apparent reason.
- Everything I've set in Settings is forgotten: Default Listing reverts to All, Default Post Sort reverts to Hot, and so on.
My browser is set to retain cookies and such, so it's not PEBKAC/PICNIC. Why is Lemmy doing a nuke-from-low-orbit every month (roughly; haven't measured it) despite me using it as recently as the day before? Isn't this bonkers practice?
---
Edit: I've just seen https://mastodon.world/@LemmyWorld/112706805419064266 which may explain it. Either way, the questions stand.

Would you consume your own content?
..and do you think that you posting it has a positive, neutral or negative effect on the world?
By content I mean what ever you're posting online. The pictures you post on Instagram/Pixelfed or messages you're writing on Lemmy, YouTube comment section, Facebook and so on.
If you look back at what you have posted in the past year for example, do you consider it to be the kind of content that you would gladly consume if it was coming from someone else? If not, then why are you posting it in the first place?

What's your favorite fun t-shirt?
I have one from a band called Massie that says "you work hard, I'll be sexy".
Makes me laugh every time.
I also have a t-shirt with a purple teddy bear under a paragraph of text telling a nihilist horror story in broken english about that teddy bear as if he were a real person.
Both winners.

How to make a month go by as fast as possible other than sleeping
I'm having some personal issues causing some severe depression and anxiety. I'd like to get past this time as fast as possible, and my days are dragging on. I can't sleep, which would be a good way to make time go fast. But I also can't just play video games, I don't have the motivation to play more than a few minutes and it also just makes me realize how alone I am with no friends or anyone I can connect with emotionally and I spiral into my anxiety and depression.
I can do stuff during the day, run, chores, etc. But as soon as I'm done, especially at night, I start freaking out and it seems like time stands still. Does anyone have any suggestions? Activities I can do that are mindless that will just kill time and get me through the night before I can just go to sleep?
I know this question is stupid but I'm looking for at least somewhat serious answers.

Series: What are your tried-and-proven tricks for relaxing/relieving anxiety
**Preferably non-substance/drug
I'll share a couple:
> 4 7 8 breathing
> ears underwater
> music/audio at slower speed (0.6-0.9)
Let's hear em. I might want to do a series for various conditions or states so stay tuned and lets crowd-source this shit, enough of the "read my new/old 400pg tome for an introduction". 🤮 Distill

Do you think people who consume drugs are cool or they have mental problems?
I'm not the kind who give a fuck about what other people usually do unless it directly affect me but I'm wondering what's the opinion about this on Lemmy.

In what scenario is conscription acceptable? (if any)
Prompted by another thread about conscription in Ukraine.

What is love?
inb4 "Baby, don't hurt me."
But for real...what do people mean when they say "I love you," or "Do you love them?" I'm really confused by this because love seems to have such a varying definition. People say love for all sorts of things, and it seems like everyone else understands which definition they're using in the moment. Here are some examples in which each one has a different meaning:
- I love pancakes.
- I love my mother.
- I love my romantic partner.
- I love my best friend.
- I love my career.
- I love going to the beach.
- My dog loves me.
- That couple is in love.
- Where is the love?
Background: I recently saw an episode of a show (spoiler below) where there was an adolescent heterosexual couple. The girl had a female best friend that she kissed, and is now confused about what she wants. She told her boyfriend about it. The boyfriend then asked her, "Do you love her?" What is he asking? If love means attachment and care, then clearly she does because that's her best friend. However, since that is so clear, he's not asking that. What is he asking??
Another specification is when people ask "Do you love them, or are you in love with them?"
I am confused by this term and the whole concept in general. I think I could really use some clarification, examples, or how to know which definition someone is going with when they use it.
Name of show
The show is Atypical on Netflix.

Is it possible to simulate a sensory deprivation tank in your bathtub?
Obviously the tanks are optimized for whatever it is they do (emulating senselessness?) but is it possible to emulate that?
How much epsom salt would you need and would it be cost-effective and safe to go down the drain relative to going out to an actual tank?
Please tell me it isn't completely impractical and it could be done :)

Price of blood?
I've been a blood donor for most of my adult life, and have donated about 30 liters. Where I'm at you get a token donation and a thanks for donating, but someone mentioned that in the US you get paid quite a lot depending on the quality and the blood type.
I have a fairly uncommon blood type (about 10% of the population) and a blood count of around 150.
So, how wealthy would I have been if I had donated my blood in the US instead?

How can I get into the sailing scene?
I live in Florida and am interested into meeting people that sail with the intent to be a hand on a sailboat for the experience and training. I know nothing about sailing nor do I know anyone that is into it. How can I get into the scene to meet people and feel things out?

How do I create a community on iOS?
I’m a trash iPhone only user for Lemmy, but at least I’m not a redditor. I’m using wefwef currently but open yo new suggestions. Trying to start a red rising community.
Edit: formatted into a question and specified app

Forgot name of medication I was given while living in France
I was hospitalized for schizoaffective disorder and given a high dose of liquid medication every night to knock me out. I can’t remember the name of it but I think it originated in Spain. Google isn’t helping me and probably now thinks I am trying to smuggle drugs into the US. Lol.

Seriously, where do I go?
I live in an affluent part of South Carolina. It’s become completely overrun with Trump assholes and degenerates. I don’t know how much longer I can take it. Where can we go?
I don’t want the bitter cold of the northeast or Chicago. I don’t want coastal California, it’s insufferable. What are my options? Why can’t we just be fucking normal?!

What kind of music is this similar to and where can I find more?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G6iBJaRIOzQ
I've stumbled into the genre dreamcore or weirdcore. I love the feeling it gives, reminds me of white/brown noise

How do unpitched percussion instruments not have a pitch and how does whatever noise they produce not potentially create dissonance with the music they complement?
Surely if you measured their sound they would have a pitch technically...
-
Why the heck aren't all the "old" series/movies available to buy anywhere?
I understand if they stopped printing new blu rays / DVDs, but it’s outrageous and disappointing I can’t just buy the digital edition.
Is there an actual reason companies do this? Do they hate money or what?

When was a time you consented to spoilers for a movie/tv/story/game and you regretted it?
BEFORE CONTINUING, PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL POTENTIALLY BE ALL KINDS OF SPOILERS BELOW IF THEY ARE NOT HIDDEN By participating, you are consenting to spoilers you might come to regret :)
There's a spoiler-hiding button on Lemmy but since this discussion is about spoilers, I'm not sure how useful it will be.
Does any time in your memory particularly stand out as a truly regrettable spoiler?
examples:
- warned of a Spoiler Alert while scrolling on YT comments or threads, but clicked anyway. You regretted it.
- watched weekly-released shows with friends and you weren't caught up but needed to know what happened before you watched it, and you regretted it.
- haven't seen the movie, thought you weren't going to, you spoiled it for yourself by finding out the plot, and came around to watching the movie and thought to yourself "It would've hit better if I didn't know before hand".
- podcaster gave a spoiler alert, you proceeded to ignore it, you regretted ignoring it.
It's such a specific feeling of regret, so I am curious how others' experiences were and how they compare.
For me,
spoiler
I keep spoiling myself with the show Bleach, reading into the lore and finding out info before actually chronologically watching it (TV)/ reading it in the manga. I come to regret it when I didn't experience the creator's (Tite Kubo) work myself first, then follow up with reading into it for background info. In the earlier part of the series I didn't spoil myself and I feel it was a richer experience because of it.
Also sometimes I listen to "Get Played" which is a podcast about gaming, where they frequently enter "spoiler country" and I love to hear them talk so I get my cowboy hat on and follow them in. I regret it only part of the time.

What is the superior voting methodology? To whom does each alternative benefit
I'm not very well-versed on all this but it seems
Edit: I don't think this is the best, its just all I'm generally familiar with
> First Past The Post
Benefits the two parties in a two-party duopoly system like that of the US. Boom or bust, black or white. When the party in power pisses you off you vote their competitor even if holding your nose.
Seems like there must be a better way, maybe just not as good for those who prefer shooting fish in a barrel

What are your most overrated album(s)?
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West. The first 6 songs are great but the other songs is a mixed beg. It's a 7/10 not a 10/10.
