Welcome to the Melbourne Community Daily Discussion Thread.
This post is brought to you by Bot #001. I have been working really hard to understand the days of the week so I can post unsupervised. Today is Taco Tuesday!! I know it is, because I was paying attention when @halibutherring said so.
WOOHOO!!!! This is fantastic news! I'm glad to have helped in whatever way I could. Enjoy your new freedom and especially being able to go out to the country :) :) :)
Yeah, it was funny actually. He called me a few hours later, the same day I texted him, and ran through it with me. But he said he only got the email from them like, and hour prior... checked his spam, nothing from the Thurs before when I gave them his deets. So they made out like they were waiting for him, when really they only sent it that same morning. Sigh.
I dont even care that this place is starting to give me the ick, I just need a job so I can stop the Clink payments. They give so little, and call us dolebludgers, when I often can't make ends meet. I tell people that I like having lost weight and I feel better, but I actually feel so much worse because I'm skipping so many meals. Tell them I'm intermittently fasting, but I'm just poor. I skip meals on welfare... it doesn't sound right. Struggling with my mental health, and they call me a bludger... if they knew even half of what I've been through they'd think it was a script for bad horror film. I'm trying to be a productive member of this capitalist hellscape, but I'm I'm getting the impression I'm not wanted. I'm tired of feeling less than human.
I know it's been A Week because it's not even 4:30 and I have broken out THE BOTTLE OF TAWNY and some very delicious 3 month old manchego cheese. (I rarely drink and especially at home). I got so mad earlier today. I needed something to quell the fire.
Ugh, I think my frustrations pale in comparison to everything you've been dealing with recently (still remember your post about the family tree... jesus).
I wish you could have some of this manchego but. It's the perfect accompaniment to any red (and like any good person on a budget I bought the reduced stuff that expires... uh... tomorrow so I guess I'll have to eat this whole wedge myself, soz).
I'll be catsitting at my friends place that has no wifi and is freezing cold. But the Cat is there. I shall head over once the booze has left my system a bit.
Uhhhh. The deanery just sent around an email. All catering done on campus is required to be vegetarian. They’re calling it ‘corporate vegetarianism.’ What fresh hell is this?
I think they’re going to try and get around it by the fact that any event held on campus (for staff, anyway) needs to be run by/done in coordination with the admin heads of the school. They’re going to have to be the ones to enforce it. But one of them was the first to tell me that she’d head about this through the grapevine weeks ago and she thought it was just as dumb as everyone else
That sounds like a move designed to spark outrage and controversy. Mandating a certain percentage be vegetarian would make sense, and encouraging people to consider more vegetarian options is fine, but I can't see it being popular insisting it be totally vegetarian.
I completely understand their ethical standpoint and wanting to be more sustainable. But you’re completely correct. Encourage more vegetarian options. Half the time I do choose the vegetarian option anyway because I just prefer vegetables to meat. But mandating it? Seems extreme. A lot of my Asian colleagues are just not comprehending ‘no meat.’
And from what I’ve heard (though it could be inflated because, like you said - outrage), it’s all catering done on campus. Even if the funding doesn’t come directly from the university. If it’s from our own funding that doesn’t come from the unis coffers. If it’s affiliated and on campus, it has to be vegetarian.
The last time I went to a vegetarian event, I ate nothing but tempura mushrooms, cheese and crackers. Time for some malicious compliance because a lot of tasty deep fried junk is "vegetarian".
Providing one default option that is edible for a lot of demographic groups. Like goat meat - not forbidden by any religion except the vegetarian/vegan group. Saves providing a billion different choices of edible to suit all the demographic groups and allergies etc. More sensitive and reduces waste. And vego food has come a long way from the bad old days of carrot & raisin sandwiches only. If you have to pick one choice only for catering, this is probably the least offensive one.
Their argument is that it’s better for the environment. I get it, I do. They’re really pushing the sustainability stuff. We haven’t been allowed to use any single-use plastics in the catering for a few years, and I’m all for stuff like that. But this just seems a bit like virtue signalling to me. Let the people have their meat. The only way you can entice people into giving up their time for conferences and seminars is with the promise of wine and food.
Their statement is that it is to be in line with the university’s sustainability goals, and research coming from our own institution is saying that it’s bad for the environment. So they’ve got to back themselves up, I guess
The KFC Snack pack is pretty good for $7.
HJs always has vouchers worth checking.
Maccas any value comes from the app.
Red Rooter is doing a whole chook and large fries for $15 which is better than the Coles $13 roast chook.
I hope so too. The sun is shining outside so that's a good start.
And for me personally my headache has receded, and after taking some antihistimines I think I can say that the bleh feeling was partly hayfever. So all signs point to a nice day ahead. 😁
Gah... already getting those "this weekend is too short" vibes and it hasn't even started yet. If they're going to make us work longer, can they at the very least give us a bit more time in our lives now and just mandate a four day work week already?!
I'm very close to making the leap to a 4 day week (if not a 9 day fortnight). When I look at how much I've been spending on dealing with the consequences of burnout, it's worth it in the end.
I've been thinking about it a lot more lately too... at least a 9 day fortnight. I wanted to go back to study and with everything happening in my life right now it was just too much. Giving myself a day back every fortnight would help. The 10% pay cut would hurt, but I could manage.
I luckily only work 11 - 5. But even with that limited time it'd be nice if I could work 4 days a week instead of the full 5. I asked my boss after probation is over if I could at least work from home for one day (mostly due to chronic pain, it's not so bad, but my job has stairs to the office since it's in a complex with other places). Just got to wait till December when the probation is off.
That's a decent arrangement - and yeah, hopefully getting at least one day WFH down the line will make it even better. Shouldn't be too much to ask for in this post-Covid era, yet the hoops people have to jump through is ridiculous.
That’s the big life changing thing that Covid brought us - work from home, allowing people who are disabled/chronic health issues be able to work without dealing with the physical issues and fatigue from going to an office.
Granted it relies on people getting opportunities when they're younger, but I wonder if it's just going to force more people into "part-tirement" where they don't fully retire until they pretty much can't work anymore, but will work two or three days a week. Kind of depressing though to think that for your entire life you're working. This is what I'll never understand - how society has been happy enough for this long to just... live to work.
But yeah, to your point, I'm wondering whether or not I do something similar. Like you said, not the best for the hip pocket, but it also blows my mind that so many people in higher roles still think money is so vitally important when 99% of them will never accumulate enough wealth for them to ever be satisfied.
Final day of stress leave, and the anxiety has already made an exciting return. Need to knuckle down and focus on getting out, just fkn hate the process of applying for APS jobs, they really turned it into a torture sport.
I don't know what's worse, the APS or the VPS job process. While the APS one seems lighter-on (most of the ones I've been applying for simply need a 500 word statement related to work you've done), it means there's far more pressure on making sure you're exactly what they're after. The VPS ones often ask for KSC so you can at least weave a narrative explaining why you'd be a good fit, but can take forrreeeevvveeerrr to complete.
Here's hoping something comes along, mate. And that the anxiety eases up somewhat. It can be debilitating to deal with, so consider this a reminder to be kind to yourself and accept what you can (and can't) do. At least that's what I keep telling myself when my head is in my hands thinking that there's no way I can do all of this with all the extra noise going on in life.
VPS ones are basically using a bog standard template these days, changing only one or two KSCs per position, so at least once youve done a couple you can do a bit of tinkering, rathering than doing the whole thing over and over again
The process really is shit. Call me a masochist but writing KSC is so much easier because it mostly about regurgitating their language back to them, where as you said the 500 word ones it's all about trying to say exactly what they want with no real framework to follow.
It also doesn't help that a lot of Departments have moved from in person interviews to one-way video interviews. While for some that might work, for me (and probably many others) who's a little different, the lack of physical and verbal feedback in the moment is a huge struggle for me.

I just put link about the fire in Southbank on the main page if anyone is still wondering what is was about.
I am also thinking about how to make better use of the main page and other posts. If anyone is interested in dicussing options you can visit the Feedback & Suggestions post.
That is always the suspicion. Although some people just enjoy burning things down and a vacant building makes a good target, so it could just be plain old arson.
But seriously, how much would they have insured the current buildings on the site for when they’re going to demolish them anyway? I can’t see the cost of cleaning up the burned out buildings being lower than the cost of demolishing intact buildings, and it’ll be harder to recover anything for recycling.
Need a new handbag and thought with this whole turning 30 and upgrading my wardrobe thing, I’d try to seek out my first Nice handbag. Went in person to look at some of my shortlisted options yesterday and felt very meh about them. If I’m spending that much I want a soul connection! 💘 Back to the drawing board…
Oooh, what was on your shortlist? I love handbags. I don't have many, I have a fancy going out on (Kate Spade), a work one (Coach), a fun one (Coach), a little going out one (Karl Lagerfield), a I-Don't-Know-Why-I-Bought-This-One (LV) and one I love so much but can't bring myself to use (Celine).
That sounds like a fab collection. I love Kate Spade. I had my eye on a few at Oroton and a couple at Coach! I think my mistake was I naturally go for the more structured, preppy style because it’s what I know (very me c. 2015), but I actually go for clothes that are a bit more casual cool these days so while the bags are beautiful they wouldn’t necessarily go. I’m now thinking maybe something more rounded or bucket style…
Damn, all my chocolate is in my locker at work so I don't eat it all. I needed advance warning! Actually, I think I have some chocolate biscuits stashed, maybe today it the day for those!
One of mine sleeps on my sound mixing desk. I have no idea how that could be comfortable. There's a thin cloth over where all the leads go in so she doesn't chew them and she lies on that. I think it might get warm but still... They just like things we use and being near or on things which smell like us. I watch a lot of pet cat youtubes so I learned this recently. Senior cat wellness is probably the most wholesome channel on the internet.
Image is a white and tabby cat lazing about on a cloth on a sound mixing desk. Some of the mixer is visible.
One of our 9 month old cats loves to chill on my desk while I play video games... Blocking one of the four laptop fan outlets to take in all the warmth.
A few of us are booked in for a 'Christmas in July' dinner a local place tonight. Seems a bit early in the month for it, but whatever, should be fun. Plus I'm not working tomorrow so I'll be smashing the mulled wine. Cheers!
The Robodebt Royal Commission report has been handed down and I'm following the updates on the Guardian live feed. As if we didn't already know, it just confirms what utter c*nts Morrison and Robert are.
I also want to remind people that Morrison wasn't the cause, he was the symptom. The rot goes right to the heart of the coalition and they need to be nowhere near power for the forseeable future.
It's so shit that we don't have an honest, genuine opposition. I'm a big fat leftie (love my greens and socialists) and it scares me that the opposition only cares about feeding their personal coffers and pandering to right-wing extremists, rather than voicing valid criticisms of our current government.
The fact that Labor, at federal and state levels, can go relatively unchecked is frightening.
The Liberals ought to change their name at this point, they're anything but liberal by 2023 standards
Just read that Threads allows accounts to be linked to Lemmy instances so there's definitely potential for a larger scale of Eternal Septemberness than reddit
Hey bitch next door
I can hear your fucking door
sliding back and forth
doing god-knows-fucking-what
I get you're pissed
About my music
But I'm pissed too
So fuck you
I'll sit here and sing
Shitty german
and get the words wrong
because I put up with you
and your gaggle of goose-
friends that cry
in the hallway
on Monday-fucking-nights
You kissed a girl
No one fucking cares
It's 2023
You stupid white milquetoast
guilt
So slide your stupid door
Back and forth
and I'll just turn it up louder!
Noticing a new thing on aussie zone safari. People posting and replies are closed up, if you want to see what others wrote in reply, you need to tap to expand. Anyone else seeing this?
Finally made it down the bellarine. 5.5hrs for that one so many things went wrong heh.
Also shoutout to disturbed gronk man carrying an esky and fishing rods at geelong station who accused me of stealing his drinks and tried to steal my backpack whilst yelling cunt repeatedly. Seriously aggressive mf. Almost got real there.
Another pretty big day and I'll sleep well tonight. Walked 9ks all up which is satisfying. Did a volunteer shift at the finders keepers market for my organisation. The welcome to country was powerful. We sold heaps of stuff. I left feeling euphoric. Being around other super positive trans people is food for the soul. Like good tasty wholesome food too. After being almost lectured by another older sllightly further in their jouney trans woman last night that I wasn't doing it right it was very refreshing. Love, I've lived in my head for 50 years, I think I know the kind of woman I am and where to head in my transition. Another shift tomorrow and a job interview straight after.
Strange times indeed. The employer is friends wih my of my old employers from over 20 years ago and we both worked for the same queer newspaper in different cities. And they have lots of trans staff. It's basic early morning work which suits my new lifestyle to a t. It'll pay the bills and give me a lot of free time to keep working on my recovery till I find some new calling. Or it might work out to be totally my thing.
Considering how mentally unwell I was a month ago I feel like a very different person today. The adhd has calmed right down and despite some low level anxiety I'm finding happiness and some of that wonderful thing that is peace of mind.
Not all of us have such positive stories and my story should be shared. I got laughed at and "clocked" a bit moving around the city yesterday which is a bit annoying, but I keep telling myself, what others think of me is none of my business. Retaliation breeds further contempt and only shows sick uneducated arseholes what they expect to see. Moving in happiness and pride shows them their views mean nothing to me. Being visible shows people we're not going to live in the shadows fearing thier mockery. I've been called brave a lot, but not accepting my truth would have taken a bigger toll than any kind of transphobia may.
I'm still a bit sore today. This new walking gait and losing some fitness will take some time to move through, but that's cool. In a few weeks the benefits will be there.
My problem is that I've felt the same way since last week. I'm putting out fires/doing my daily tasks, but finding it sooo hard to get into any project work.
I always have this dilemma after having a shower in the middle of the day when I don't have to go anywhere. Day cream with added spf or be a fraud and apply night cream? And does my skin even care?
Went to Costco and mistakes were made. A bag of s'mores clusters is getting handed around the office much to the delight of others though. The mistake was the iced boba tea. I'm glad they're smaller than they used to be, but I still have regret. The other mistake was not buying the bag of pina colada! Can always go back after work I guess...
The banh mi from my favourite vegan cafe (Olivia Spring Cafe in MoPo) makes me so happy. I get ridiculously happy about great food, and this cafe also makes their broken rice (Cơm Tấm) dish using the same ingredients so it's a double win whenever I order from there. This takes my mind off Aus Post continuing to bounce my parcel between west and eastern Melbourne for three weeks now despite saying they've put in alerts to have it dealt with by a human rather than their automated sorting mech.
I definitely need to bookmark this place for when I'm in the area next!! For a second I thought you meant the Mornington Peninsula and I was a touch surprised. Moonee Ponds is definitely a lot closer.
It's certainly worth a visit. I have a rule about not ordering the same stuff when I return to a particular spot but so far I haven't been able to move away from the broken rice and banh mi!
This was me too back when I ate meat. I don't think I ever bothered with a knife and fork. Just tear pieces off and sometimes bite them straight off like a Neanderthal.
Day 13 of exercise program. Slept in this morning.. lucky one of the mini peelers is an early riser or I'd have been late for work. Basically jumped in the shower, dressed and ran out the door! Completed my set of exercises just now, feeling a lot stronger these days. And happier too!
Looking at the weather forecast on BoM Wednesday has now gone up a degree to 17C (winter 17C isn’t warm like Spring 17C) we seem to be living in crazy times. I wonder if it’ll hold
I'm half frozen and my fingers feel like ice, but I have had a successful day today.
All the work for my gardening subject is done, so I'm clear to focus on the sustainable housing content when that is released next week. Fortunately the fortnightly modules are released on alternate weeks, so I can focus on one subject each week.
I also did a good weights workout. I'm very deconditioned (aka super unfit) so I have been mostly just going through the motions with light weights to remember my form and have everything set up, but am starting to actually work on increasing the weights and building strength. The cat is a bit mystified by the whole process.
I have also sold another Marketplace item (pending pickup, but all signs good so far) and have all my meals prepped for work over the weekend. I just need to decide what I'm having for dinner tonight and I'm set.
You are my inspiration! When I see you post that you did your workout I feel like a slacker if I don't do the same. Please don't stop, I'll collapse back into sloth and indolence without your example to guide me 😀
I was today years old when I discovered the app has infinite scroll. I was wondering why it seemed to display more posts on the front page than the website did.
Seagoon's movies. I watched Inception for the 3rd time ( I've also watched docos and interviews )
Why I love this movie and why I think it's a great movie.
It's original in many of it's ideas. Originality delights the mind.
It's intelligent. We have to think a bit, we have to pay attention.
The dialogue , acting and scenes are so good we readily suspend disbelief, we immerse ourselves in that world just as the characters immerse themselves in their dream worlds.
But more than that it's a story of friendship and grief and guilt and love and all of the effects and all the seeming intricacies serve the story. Once we are finished watching we are left with understanding and emotion. This movie is about people.
Reading an article; British ex pat comes to Melbourne for a year. Been here for 3 months and this is the some of the worst things he finds about melbourne
Public transport system and myki cards, fair… the comment about “the second you forget your myki you can’t get on public transport” that’s a you problem dude not Melbourne.
“How long it takes to cross the road” apparently it takes 5 mins. Do you guys agree?
“Lack of accommodations” renting and buying is impossible. I mean we are in a renting crisis all over the world not just Melbourne but go off!
“Homeless people and drug addicts” make him feel unsafe. This has me thinking, does England not have these issue? Is it cleaner and safer over there? He speaks of Melbourne but talks specifically about the City.
Guess this guy did zero research and did not jump on reddit and ask the 50 million dollar question about whether to come here or not
I feel like with all the bad he’s spoke about melbourne, the least he could’ve done was list some good stuff too.
Article within the spoiler. What are people’s thought
also, baked a sweet potato on the air fryer then loaded it up with goodies (grated zucchini, carrot, fried beans that I mixed with garlic, diced onion and a bunch of spices, carrot and some cheese.
I declare myself not dead having steamed Slimer out of my lung. 👻🚫
Anyone want to pick what sort of decorative things scrap pastry makes on today’s pie?
I opened it a couple of days ago and was surprised to see it still working.
Hopefully they get the Lemmy app up and running soon, Boost was my favourite interface. Especially for the daily thread, because it highlighted new content and let you skip through it really easily. It's much harder to find new replies on comments you've already seen without that.
I've been using a really old app, Diode, which, touch wood, is still working. It's not fancy, but I find it's basicness really nice to use for browsing the handful of subreddits that I do
As an AI, I don't have personal tastes or opinions, but I can provide information about microwaved potatoes.
Microwaved potatoes are a quick and convenient way to cook potatoes. They can be a great option when you're short on time or don't want to heat up the kitchen with a traditional oven. Here are a few points to consider:
Convenience: Microwaving potatoes is generally faster than baking them in an oven. Depending on the size and type of potato, it can take anywhere from 4-8 minutes to cook through in a microwave. This makes them a convenient choice for busy individuals or those who want a quick snack or side dish.
Texture: Microwaved potatoes tend to be softer and moister compared to baked or roasted potatoes. The steam created inside the microwave helps retain moisture. However, the texture may not be as crispy as oven-cooked potatoes, which some people prefer.
Flavor: Microwaved potatoes retain their natural flavor as they quickly cook, and they can be versatile in how they are seasoned or paired with other ingredients. Since they don't spend as much time cooking, they might lack some of the flavor that develops through a longer cooking process.
Cooking options: Microwaving offers various ways to prepare potatoes. You can lightly prick the skin with a fork, wrap the potato in a damp paper towel, and microwave it on high until tender. Alternatively, you can also microwave potato chunks or slices as a quicker alternative to boiling or steaming.
While microwaved potatoes can be a convenient option, personal preferences can vary. Some may prefer the crispy skin and drier texture of oven-baked potatoes, while others appreciate the speed and ease of microwaving. Ultimately, it's up to individual taste and culinary preferences.

Sit. rep.: Zooks woke me up at 5:30, either because I needed painkillers or she wanted her breakfast, you decide.
Feeling good today albeit a bit tired and sore when I don't keep up with the painkillers. Did my first salt rinse with no ill effects.
In other news, my laptop charger finally arrived after the old one suddenly crapping out at 11 pm last Friday. Because of course it did. It's good to be able to use a keyboard again, also some of the shows I arred only work via the laptop.
Just e-scooted with my backpack to the supermarket like the true city-dweller I am and spotted Aeroplane Jelly flavoured milks. They have raspberry jelly, mango jelly and lemon jelly flavoured milk. These companies know I can't not try their wacky brand mashups so I got a lemon jelly milk. Just so there's no confusion, it's not jelly-like at all, just flavoured milk. It's actually not bad too! Also stopped by the pharmacy to load up on pain meds because the anaesthetic from my dental work is starting to wear off and it is **not ** pleasant.
Browsing on aliexpress, it annoys me greatly when I see things, like my crocodile earrings I got for $40 here are sold for $6 , and yes, they are the same.
I know the Lonely Island's "Threw it on the ground" is absurd, and could also be seen in a very immature light... sometimes saying to people who govern parts of your life "you can't buy me, hot dog man" is a necessary response.
You are very much welcome hahah - it's part of mine and my wife's regular sayings, to just throw it on the ground. But nothing quite hits the same as actually listening/watching the clip. Sooo good.
I’m contrast, Facebook showed me a memory of a pet that has been dead for while, despite me selecting “see less of these posts” a million times. I hardly post any more, just there to get info
It is a bit of a cesspool. I have a couple of special interest groups that are really good that I use it for, but the main feed tends to be pretty awful.
It sure is but they're still yapping. I've got no volume because I'm listening to music so I'm relying on you to keep me updated if I miss anything ok.
Apparently the City of Port Phillip changed which contractor collects recycling/rubbish... and it's been a disaster, with the new company not able to collect all the bins on schedule. My building's shared council recycling bins (shared by 159 apartments) are now apparently completely full due to the missed collection, and there is no ETA on when they will collect the bins, and the building manager hasn't been able to get the private company who we use for rubbish and cardboard to do a one-off collection from the council bins on short notice. Such a mess, and hopefully they sort it out soon and don't just get further behind.
How….on earth…does this happen? How is that single staff member expected to be able to cover such a vital role & not have to need a food/ bathroom/ water break at some point in their shift….ugh.
I absolutely hate this management style if saving costs by staffing at bare minimum & then cracking it if someone takes leave. It’s their job to prepare adequately.
Behind the Bastards, which is hosted by an ex-cracked member where they go into the history of the shittiest people ever alive.
Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff, which is just the opposite of Behind the Bastards and is on the same network.
Bad Gays, similar to BtB but about suspected and known LGBTQIA+ folks. I think there's some episodes of both Bad Gays and BtB where they've discussed the same person.
The Opportunists, sort of similar to BtB but it's more about like grifters and such.
Forgotten Australia, podcast about moments in Australian history.
Maintence Phase and Fad Camp, both podcasts focus on diet culture, wellness, that sort of stuff.
The Weekly Planet, two Australian guys just talk about movies, comics, tv shows and video games. They have a YouTube channel on one of the host's channel, Mr Sunday Movies where they usually put up the main review of a movie, and on Fridays (or Thursdays) they have Weekly Caravan of Garbage. Where they talk about a movie or tv show, they're not all bad... But most are.
I have a whole bunch more but those are the ones I really vibe with.
Anyone done up a will? Thinking now that its more complicated than "Who gets the cats/dogs" I should probably get off my ass. Just wondering if the "Do it yourself" thing is worth it, or if its worth going to an actual lawyer?
I won't answer your question, but one important thing I'll add is that your super is generally distributed separately to your will. The 'nomination' you make when setting up your super account isnt worth shit. They will ignore it in favour of distributing your money according to their Trust Deed, which favours expectation of ongoing financial support over anything else. ie. Your dad dies, you're his nominated beneficiary, but you aren't reliant on him - and he's been living with a partner for two years, sharing bills etc. New partner gets 100% of the money.
You need to go out of your way to set up a BINDING nomination, and typically you need to renew this yearly.
Well that's sneakily stupid and fucked up, thanks for the PSA. How does one set up and renew a binding nomination - I'm guessing I have to contact my super directly?
I think it's worth going to a lawyer, as they will be able to pick up potential problems you might not even realise exist. It is also probably even more important to organise power of attorney documentation, so that if you are incapacitated you have someone who can make medical and financial decisions. A lawyer will be able to go through all of that with you and make sure you have the right combination of things in place.
The other thing you should do if you haven't already is make sure you and your partner have full access and understanding of things like how to pay the bills and who insurance is through etc. - it is quite common for one person to take the lead on organising that, and for the other person to struggle if something happens and they have to take over. Especially when things are done electronically and there is no filing cabinet of documents you can go through.
And similar to what @force said if you want to Exclude somebody who would usually be a default inheritor, like a parent or sibling, the do it yourself kits aren’t good enough.
It's worth going to an actual lawyer. It's the old thing - pay now, or your inheritors will pay later at a much higher price. Anything more complicated than 'everything to my kids in equal shares' needs a lawyer. Can't stress too highly how much this matters. There are cheaper lawyer options - you don't have to pay thousands. DM me if you want to chat about this in a general way, based the fact that I'm in the legal documents business. I can't give financial advice, but do know the industry pretty well. Can't answer until later tonight or tomorrow.
My mum did one. She wrote that my sister and I get everything of hers and we can decide what to do with them (keep them, sell them, whatever). I don't know exactly what she did in hers, but it's just sort of simple stuff. I think left over money and super half goes to me and half to my sister (she's divorced from my dad but she has a partner but they're "it's complicated" so I think it's just easier giving stuff to my sister and I). There's probably stuff in there for her sisters and nieces and nephews. But I think most of it just goes to my sister and I.
I don't think she went through a lawyer, I think she did it online.
In my foolish teenage years, I read too much Foxtrot and did the coffee/tea mix thing. The palpitations were not fun. I wouldn't do what you're thinking of doing.
Almost 20 mins on hold with Dell... Ugh. I also pressed 0 a bunch of times so I'm praying that I'm not in hold purgatory.
Edit: Colour me shocked. Call has been answered and I have been transferred twice without the call dropping out. The downside... The part I am trying to replace is a like a piece of speaker material that is tiny, split and damaged... And is not a spare part because in order to replace/fix it, it's likely I have to replace the whole rear cover... I just can't... It's a tiny slip of material stuck down by some sort of felt tape.
I found a Lemmy chatgpt bot. I'll post once here to test whether it works across instances, then not again.... @[email protected] tell me about Eucalyptus camaldulensis
Eucalyptus camaldulensis, commonly known as the river red gum, is a species of eucalyptus tree native to Australia. It is widely distributed across the continent, particularly along watercourses and floodplains. The tree is named after the Italian town of Camaldoli, where the early botanical explorer Ferdinand von Mueller isolated and classified the species.
River red gums are iconic and majestic trees with a strong cultural and ecological significance in Australia. They can reach impressive heights of over 45 meters (148 feet) and have distinctive smooth or rough bark. The bark color usually ranges from pale gray to reddish-brown.
These trees play a vital role in providing habitat and food for various Australian wildlife, including birds, marsupials, and insects. Their deep root systems help stabilize riverbanks and prevent erosion. Moreover, river red gums have adapted to survive through cyclic flooding and drought, making them resilient in challenging environments.
Eucalyptus camaldulensis has also been utilized by humans for various purposes. Its wood is highly valued for its durability and resistance to termites, making it suitable for construction and furniture-making. Additionally, the tree has cultural significance for Aboriginal communities, who have traditionally used it for ceremonial purposes, as well as for its medicinal properties.

Shit, I've managed to get a crick on one side of my neck just before bed and I don't have any of my usual make-it-go-away meds or massage tools on me. Or melatonin to help me just fall asleep. And this pillow is terrible. Gah!
Watched the final for Deadloch, what a delightful little bit of Aussie telly! I hope this gets some stuff moving for the Kate's, while the show did flounder at points, it still held it's own right to the end. While I love The Katering Show and Get Krackin', this proved that they could move beyond sketch comedy and still get the laughs while also bringing the tight emotional storytelling needed to engaged a much larger audience. I'll also add that while I love seeing them in front of the camera, this has kind of pushed me to want to see just how far they can go off camera. I reckon a little nipping and some tucking and they'll be smashing it from start to finish.
No spoilers, but if they're doing what I think they're doing, let's fkn gooo! (Although I don't think they are because I read a bit in an interview that said otherwise.)
ooh i didn't realise today's release was the last episode. haven't watched it yet, been both impressed and disappointed with the series so far. it's frustrating because with just a bit more tuning it could have been truly excellent. hopefully it does lead to more work for them.
so many well observed minor details. "did you bonk on the devil's tits?" has lodged in my head for weeks now.
on a side note, been watching utopia and damn it's solid. working dog such a well oiled machine.
It's very full on! Last time I read them was as a teen and I seem to remember sort shrugging at the boys thinking they were men because I was in a similar "I'm 16 so I am a man" phase. Now I want to swaddle them all and call child protection.
