I'm in the UK, but I live in a small village. The nearest place with a menu at all (a pub) is about 3 miles away. There is a bakery around the same distance - but their bread is nothing to write home about.
Closest small town - 6 miles - has a few choices but also nothing really outstanding. If I had to choose from there, there is a pizza place with an decently spicy Vesuvio. To get to actual food producers of any size or quality I need to go further afield. One of these is based on a farm. The other in an old malthouse - both also in the middle of nowhere.
Crispy fried duck bowl. Found a place less than 1km from where I live that not only stays open until midnight (which is great because I work late), but also makes the best crispy duck I've had in a long time.
There's a breakfast joint near my place that has amazing hollandaise sauce. The meal I normally order comes with eggs and an English muffin, I order a side of the sauce and make my own eggs Benedict to go with my main meal.
There's a cafe couple blocks from my house that makes such good cafe con leche. Literally when I walk in I hear the guy yell to the line "un grande sin azucar!" Because always I get the coffee. They also make a ridiculous bacon egg and cheese sandwich on Cuban bread that will keep you full all day.
