got back from camping on the weekend and had an amazing time. I've gotta say guys, tidal river is just the best. Its camping lite. You have hot showers, you can go grab a coffee and a bacon and egg roll in the morning, there is Drinkable water. If you have never been camping you should consider giving it a go. Heck, reach out to me and I can recommend all the gear you need for under 100 bucks. the amount of folks rocking a Kmart tent was pretty nuts. And you'll come back feeling so recharged you'll wonder why you didnt do it sooner.
Its amazing isnt it? And it can be whatever you need it to be. You cant sit still? theres 100s of walks to go on. You wanna do absolutely 0? the wildlife just wonders through for you to look at and you can go grab lunch at the cafe.
Sounds like you had a great place, we went near Licola and had a river nearby and nothing else, but we have a lot of gear and a camper trailer so we were pretty set. I love being in the outdoors and away from everything, eating and sitting around or paddling in the river, really just doing fuck all.
I've never been, was it nice?
I've just started looking into camper trailers. Man it is a slippery slope to go down. Do you mind if I ask what you got?
Someone's brought a cat in a stroller on the tram and everyone on the nearby seats is awwwing at it. A nice scene after seeing the ol' AOs interrogate and fine a clueless looking Asian guy while letting a ratty looking white couple go with just a talking-to
I'm surprised at the lack of interest in the Australia thread. This was such a massive deal, the odds of an Australia win were so low. And then they went and did it anyway!
Work is going to be so much fun!
I think it's the loss of Cricket "season". There's so much cricket year-round that people no longer get that build up/6 month break cycle any more. The team is playing so well at the moment, and there just isn't the interest there used to be.
I think it has to do with the fact that only Oz games were shown on fta. I watched all the games on foxtel that's why I knew how exciting this game would be. Even the run up to it. When you take away something that's normally free to people, they become disinterested.
Seems like someone has found my secret spare house key location and it's gone :(
Been having a few tradies recently and the only way you could see the key would be if you were up high.. and tradies were up on scaffolding above where it was.
I'm not accusing anyone but now means my policy is potentially void and I need to change locks.
This is on top of waking up the other week to find all the flyscreens taken off out the back in an attempted break in.
I'm embarrassed to say this message exchange was what prompted me to tack a Bunnings trip onto my outing to get a really basic key safe for my spare keys (currently naked under an overturned pot in the car port, which has definitely had things filched from it before). Dont know why I didn't consider it earlier...
I just unfollowed every account I've followed on instagram. Not following any accounts. Don't know why I did it, but I did. Today has been weird.
Also a couple of days ago, I spoke to bar guy about the playlist thing and he said that lyrics are the last thing that he listens to. He eventually figured out that I was trying to convey something through the lyrics and he told me he loved me for the first time. That was cute.
I also found out that I was known as jukebox girl at the beginning by a couple of his friends because he didn't wanna say my name.
Do you feel better after unfollowing? I only follow a bunch that are all mostly health related. I know it sounds a bit sooky, but as soon as I see a post that is negative, I unfollow. And by negative I mean criticising or calling out where it’s not really that necessary. Like I don’t need to channel those vibes.
Yeah I do! It's making me more intentional with my social media use and stopped me from comparing myself to people that I know that are doing all sorts of fun things whilst I'm here not doing that. Would recommend if you are interested in doing the same.
Can’t help you. I’m too uncultured to taste the Picked by a virgin angel from the western slope of the vineyard during a full moon quince and cardamom fragrant notes in my pinot. My tip is to just nod and say hmmm.
God damn it why can't people call me by my full name. Why do they shorten it without asking me and despite me telling them to call me by my name?
It's not a white person name so for example, say my name was Taylor, they call me 'Tayl'. It really drives me up the wall. Its not even a hard name to say!!!
Am white, but also hate it! My parents didn't name me "Banana" they named me "Bananafungus", and unless I've told you otherwise that's what you can call me.
Funny. I HATE it. I introduce myself as Tom instead of Thomas (example, obviously). the amount of people who call me Thomas is nuts even after being told it's Tom. Its like "No, I told you my name. show me the respect of using it." I immediately assume you're being condescending otherwise.
Same but I’m glad I included my English name in official documents so it helps if I am interacting with real people (Ba Con Mash, Mash being my English name). Still banks and companies etc. say Dear Ba,
Some of the snuggles did involve pointy bits. She does for some reason like giving a boob massage with claws out, no matter how often I tell her it is not welcome.
It sounds like a lot of whipper snipping going on next door. Fingers crossed the blackberries are being cleared out.
Edit: sadly the blackberries are still there. Most of the other overgrown stuff is chopped, but the blackberries remain. Regular border patrols for encroaching canes will need to continue.
Prequel edit: I accidentally travelled back in time and origionally posted this comment on yesterdays thread.
As a film/TV buff in Australia, I will never not be jealous of how the UK/US/Europe get all these cool creative talks/discussions with casts and crews for things. I know I can watch most of them on YT now, but I feel like you miss so much of the "vibe" not being there. When I've been to ones here, there's sort of this buzz of curiosity in the room that sometimes has you leaning forward.
This is what bluebag was invented for. Find an IGA (not sure if colesworth stock them) and look in the laundry aisle for 'laundry blue' - usually a bag or a block. Might be in the cleaning aisle. You wash item, and add the required amount of blueing to the rinse water. Dry as normal. It's an optical illusion, but makes the yellow tinge disappear. Might be worth considering if napisan or lookalike doesn't work.
Imo this is the only way to get whiter than whites without nasty chemicals.
Have a look into laundry stripping, I wear a lot of white undershirts and have a lot of light-coloured bedding and once a month (or sometimes more) I laundry strip everything.
mm, haven't given stripping a try. (Usually I don't need to, 90% of the time the issues it corrects are caused by bad laundry practises). Cheers, I'll give it a shot.
If you haven’t already, try doing the oxy soak using hot water. It makes a huge difference. Also, check that your oxy powder has not expired. There will be a best before date somewhere on the package. The active ingredient degrades over time.
Just napisan mate. Put the item in a bucket with water and napisan overnight. Give it a stir with a big stick occasionally. Wash as normal without detergent.
Another way is to give it a quick scrub with Sards wonder soap and cold water. Chuck it in your machine with the soap still on it.
napisan is oxy. Gave it a hot soak, then a scrub with the washboard and laundry soap. then another soak, then into the machine with a shitton more oxy and vinegar rinse.
I used an Asko front loader with a 90C temp setting and pre-soaking. These days I buy coloured sheets as I felt the maintenance for white ones had me wearing through them pretty quickly.
Just scootered by that Karizma restaurant on New Quay which is owned by some underworld boss and has been torched twice in 3 days. Cop van was there and a camera crew, taped off as shown in the photo in the article about it.
I'm trying to remember what was there 10 years ago. I used to frequent the place next door - Medici. Though it also appears to have been a victim of the pandemic.
OK guys, put on your maths brains as mine is going 😵
I watched the movie 21 yesterday and one of the opening scenes is a seemingly simple probability question.
"It's a game show and there are 3 doors. Behind 2 of the doors are goats, behind 1 is a car. A lecturer acting as a game show host asks a student to choose from 3 doors. They choose door number 1. The host opens door 3 , reveals a goat, then asks the contestant if they want to keep door 1 as their choice. The student , acting as contestant says he will go with door 2 as his odds just went from 33% to 66%.
Here's where my brain went 😵.
Aren't the choosing of doors two separate events? And don't the odds go from 33% to 50%? How is it 66%?
This is called the Monty Problem. The bit possibly not explained is that in the game, the host opening the door KNOWS which door has the car, and purposely opens one that has a goat. So now you have more information. When you choose door 1 initially, there is a 33% chance of a car in it, and 66% chance of goat. So now that host has to open a door, and if you have a goat in door 1, the host only has 1 door option to open. If you have a car, they have 2 door options. So you are better off switching, because there is a 66% chance you have a goat, and the host just revealed with other door has a goat.
Wikipedia has a table which makes it more intuitive to see the possibilities.
The reason is that the door that gets opened is not random, so they are not two independent events.
There is a 66% chance that one of the doors you have not chosen has the car behind it. By showing you which one of the doors does not have the car the host effectively transfers all of that 66% chance to the one door.
Edit: that means the choice should be to switch, not stay, doesn't it? Either the student was wrong to stay or I have it completely arse about.
Edit 2 - yeah, Googled to confirm, you should switch.
And download an app! It makes it all so easy!! WOW!
We just won't mention that the website is completely broken, as is the entire company, and there is a very good chance this call will never actually get answered at all.
Eleven more minutes and I have made it to my self-imposed hour on hold limit so I can tick off "yes, I tried to contact the company" on the complaint form to the Ombudsman.
I had this precise experience calling Timezone on the weekend. I wanted to ask a specific question about a kids birthday party I have booked, and the hold messages were all about how I could book a party on the web.
I stopped going. I saw a good GP (there) for a short period and while the others have been nice, consistency has been a challenge because they turn over.
Recently switched to the practice in the Paramount building on Bourke. They also refund the MC portion on the spot which I prefer and BB for results (which might be at their discretion). The GP I saw was thorough and really sweet.
Went to the doctor to get my xray results but they haven't been sent yet, so the doctor is going to chase it up and then give me a call. I attempted to ask about what precautions I should take with my elbow if it isn't a fracture but he said he'd be guided by me, but there's that part of me that is inherently stuck in work culture (feels guilty for missing work) and also has a very high pain tolerance that just needs the doctor make some form a call if that makes sense?
Vacuuming was brought to a halt as the handle of the vacuum came off. It looks like a couple of rivets or similar have broken on the piece that should hold it clipped in. I have repaired it with some superglue and stickytape, but will now have to wait until it dries. Miss Meow is no doubt relieved as the vacuuming stopped before reaching the lounge room. I decided to also give the brushes a good clean, it is alarming just how much hair manages to wrap itself around them.
The whole Gayaneh suite is criminally underappreciated (compared to, say, his masquerade suite). Apparently as a kid I was always mesmerised by the sabre dance movement, but didn't appreciate the rest until much later in life.
