considering that the game is now owned by microsoft these votes just end up feeling kind of like a slap to the face, it's like holding a thousand dollars in your hands and asking whether someone wants a piece of gum or a bouncy ball.
I feel like fan vote should be order release, not choose one - kill two. Especially since this year is all just normal animals that fit would fit in the world.
Exactly, they act as if implementing 3 mobs is some gargantuan task when a significant chunk of the work is already done by designing them.. And then they just go ahead and throw that work into the trash if it doesn't win the vote!
Gee i wonder why minecraft's development is so slow..
you can completely legally extract the textures from your minecraft install and use a program to convert them to be used in minetest :)
It's just illegal to redistribute them.
There are also popular third party texture packs from minecraft that people have converted to be used in minetest, which are legal to redistribute so you can just download them and use as is :D
I'm torn between crab and armadillo, but I think I'll vote armadillo.
I don't think dog armor is really going to be that useful outside of just looking cool on your wolf. It probably won't save them from lava or make them actually that helpful in combat. Granted, dog drip is cool, but it's not like wolves are suddenly gonna become viable because of it.
In contrast, the crab claw is much more useful. From my experience playing modded MC, extra range is so so so nice for building. Even 2 blocks of extra range would probably be great.
But with all that being said, I'm thinking I'll still voting armadillo for a couple of reasons:
This isn't how I want to see a range extender implemented. This is the kind of thing that could be midgame or even endgame structure loot just because of its utility, but instead it's… a drop from a random mangrove swamp mob? It seems like a massive waste of an opportunity.
Armadillos are the best mob from an ambience perspective. Savannas desperately need some more life, and even if ostriches and termites will be coming eventually, armadillos are a great addition for that. If they roll/unroll, especially if in response to the player getting close, it'll add a lot of movement to the savanna. Meanwhile, mangrove swamps are already much more visually interesting than normal swamps, so I don't get making the quality gap even further.

Wouldn't that come down to if and how much it's enchantable?
When the mob vote with the phantom happened, there was a mob that was meant to be able to disenchant your tools. Even though it didnt get added, the grindstone did, which did the same thing
If the crab doesnt win the vote, it is likely that there will be an item like the crab claw
This is something I always try to keep in mind. For example, the rascal had a chance of offering you an enchanted iron pickaxe, but since it didn't win they gave that functionality to the wandering trader.
I’m honestly torn between Crab (seemingly the favorite to win, would make construction way more convenient without all the scaffolding) and Armadillo (as MC has long been lacking in the pet department; cats don’t do much besides repel creepers and protect you from phantoms, the equines and camels are just mounts, parrots don’t really do anything, and allays are painfully rare for how useful they are and more of manual labor than pets), and we never let our wolves help fight mobs and make them sit in our bases all the time, ever fearful of their job’s high mortality rate. But IMO they should just add all 3 because they all sound really useful (we won’t go wrong no matter which one wins, unlike with the sniffer, phantom and glow squid)- but that would take way too much effort for mojang to handle these days, as they’ve gotten so lazy they fail to deliver in a whole year what every other major ancient game that still updates regularly can do in 2 months; we had to wait A WHOLE YEAR for minor bug fixes, JE server performance being increased from 12 TPS to 13 TPS, a new tree and 2 new mobs. Or at least hold a “second-chance” mob vote for the runner-ups of previous ones.
And if the crab wins, they better make it rave to jukeboxes and give its claw enchants that increase its reach even more.
Crab: People are looking forward to not struggling anymore with the block reach, but jokes on them, if you increase the reach by one block, you'll run into the same issue, just as quickly. Only because you can build one block farther doesn't mean that you don't have to jump to place a block
Armadillo: Nobody uses dogs. They are useless, slow, weak and horse armor is more useful. They serve as furniture, unlike cats which can be used in farms.
Penguins: Ice biomes are too rare. Also literally just another dolphin. If I see ice and want to go fast, I put my boat on the ice, not in the water.
Actually degenerate mob selection. How are these useful? Rather make the bats useful
Calling it "grabby grab" makes the feature seem worse than it is. Extra building range is extremely helpful and makes building easy more fun. I've played with the Create mod, and its extendo grip (which increases range by 4 blocks when in the offhand) is a game changer. But you wouldn't even need 4 blocks for it to be useful. Just 2 would be totally worth it, especially since there isn't really need to put other stuff in the offhand.
Meanwhile, dog armor sounds nice, but it won't make wolves viable. They aren't that strong in combat (often struggling to land a hit), can't be controlled beyond right-clicking to toggle sitting, & will die from lava, and armadillo armor (armordillo?) won't solve those issues. At the end of the day, wolves will still be a liability more than they are a help.
I feel like the need to move around slightly less not that important. It doesn't change anything about the game. Also nothing is said about how the claw does work that reach amount is theory
