Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) raised an uproar on the X platform on Friday after the newly Trump-dominated Federal Communications Commission issued an investigative threat against the broadcasting license of San Francisco-based local news station KCBS for reporting on an Immigration and Customs Enforceme...
We were told by democrats that we have to "reach across the aisle" to fascist republicans for decades. Just this last election they kissed infamous war criminal dick cheney's ass while sending billions to the far-right government of israel while they're committing genocide. Somehow this approach would not result in fascism eventually.
The "third party" people are just as bad as Centrist, Libertarians and MAGAT's. I can never decide where on my "Idiots I Hate Who Vote" list to put them. Like, after MAGAT's how do you decide between Centrist, Libertarian and "third party" to go in second place? As soon as I think I've decided a nupty from one of the other groups pops up and reminds me why I hate them.
How nice for the entire world to still classify the US as a democracy so that oppressed people in the US don't get any ideas like applying for political asylum in the EU.
He's using the platform where Nazis are, where the administrator of the site can (and regularly does) amplify the Nazis, and silence the non-Nazis, where the good people have already all left.
Mastodon would work, but not just Mastodon, also post to Bluesky, to his own blog, to Substack, to Threads, to Hacker News, to Face, to Instant Gran, To Medium-large, to wherever. Broadcast everywhere. Don't just post on the Nazi site.
This would be a clear violation of the 1st Amendment, so any "investigative threats" should not be considered in any way as "threats". They should instead be reported to the public as evidence of unamerican activity and disloyalty to America and American values.
Honestly, and other people on Lemmy acting like this election is the ONLY thing that caused this moment are real ignorant, this has been building for decades. If the Party Loyalists had pushed their party to be GOOD instead of just being "not the other guy" we wouldn't be in this moment.
I am SO sick of this blame-shifting argument. Everyone who didn't show up to vote for the only "not Trump" candidate likely to win is 100% partially responsible for what we're dealing with now. Full stop. It's not the Dem's fault, it's not the system's fault, it's not anyone's fault except those who sat out or threw their vote away out of protest because they completely fail to even acknowledge the existence of a bigger picture.
Hurr durr, fascism is bad, but the other side isn't perfect so I'm not voting against fascism to teach them a lesson.
There were two items on the menu: "Status Quo (flawed but not fascism)" and "Speedrun to Fascism".
The fact that there are still people defending their decision to sit out / vote third party is mind boggling. At least if some of those would own up and say "I fucked up" I might have a shred of respect for them.
How is not not a democracy? Trump was elected with a clear mandate and he is doing exactly what the electors asked him to do. It is literally a democracy.
I get it, it’s too late to go back to an era where radio waves were free, but the FCC has way too stringent rules. They should worry about things like protecting critical devices from interference and ensuring companies don’t fuck people over (monopolies, robocalls, stuff like that)
It is though. Like I said, certain tasks are important, but others are overreach (specifically what they do with censorship and control of certain airwaves)
