Glad to see you back 💜 I noticed your absence but wondered if you were just lurking 💜
I'ma place this under a spoiler just in case
I also am missing a lot from my childhood, but that's the cptsd. Trauma tends to cause a repression, though I assume you know this. Please don't take me saying this, as telling you what's up. That's just my experience.
Also, I do think some memories do fade naturally anyway, especially as we age.
I hope things take a turn for the better for you WS 💜
Most people forget childhood memories. Having photos can trigger memories. Also, if you're a smoker I've found it dulls childhood memory. When I quit and get my sense of smell back it triggers memories. Early life memories are strongly linked to smell.
Found a backpack in the front garden today and these are the contents
Most of it I understand and it obviously belongs to someone with not so very good intentions. You've got syringes, keys, tools, gloves, hammer, crowbar etc... but a TV remote (and no TV) and a pair socks has me fairly perplexed.
Don't need this right now but as they say bad luck comes in threes just waiting for #3
The remote may be a generic one used to see if it opens garage doors to get into houses. The gloves, tools and more keys than one person could reasonably own do suggest break ins.
I know a neighbour had an intruder a few years ago and when they got arrested cops found the person had stolen his keys. So that’s probably it. They might take them intending to come back.
The socks may be used to tie the arm off for injecting, or a spare pair. But with the filters and syringes there it’s probably the former.
Baffled by the plug in light (is that what that is?) but maybe it’s hands free lighting that wouldn’t be too bright.
Perhaps the cops might like a look but not sure what they can do if nothing has happened yet.
Perhaps you might like to babysit a nice loud doggo for a little while til things are less sketchy.
Edit: Security camera is also a great idea if possible
The socks might be for deadening the sound of the hammer breaking something. I too reckon it's time to borrow Hambam for a week or two. Or even Butters - who is quite capable of sneering a burglar to death imo.
That's an old school remote. Can be used for TV and blu-ray (although the blu-ray remote looks a little different) and it can still be used for newer Samsung TVs. Perhaps it's been modified for opening garage doors or something.
The new switch to video feature on Spotify is pretty cool. The way it switches to exactly where the audio track is playing in the video on command. Probably a gimmick I'll get over but for now, I'm enjoying watching music videos I haven't seen for ages (or never seen).
Well, shit. My line up manager had been given the golden handshake. And the new line up manager is my previous boss who is probably the biggest asshole on the planet. soo..... yeah I think its time to jump ship. the current direct manager stays the same, and I adore them but I'm just not prepared to work for the asshole again.
Yeah but any time working for this prick is a bad time, so nothing ventured nothing gained. Just knowing I plan to leave makes it bearable, even if it takes a few months to land something. plus might be the fun to be a fly on the wall and watch shit go down. "manager" has no business managing. Be that his small team or half the damn department.
Parts of the VCE exams were leaked this year as you could see some of the questions by highlighting the cover pages. I wonder if someone working at VCAA did that on purpose to see how long it would take for someone to find it.
Apologies I'm not on here frequently enough to see everything, but have you spoken to your GP and this is an ongoing issue or is it defo a virus? Pantoprazole changed my life. Obviously speak to a GP first.
Ok on the topic of strawbs - if anyone is around the Mornington Peninsula, Sunny Ridge Strawberry farm often sell big boxes of strawberries. Was $10 for a giant box and they were sweet. Most of them are in the freezer now, but very good value if anyone's ever down that way :)
Nice! I am hoping to replicate your stawbs success but so far I'm being outsmarted. I'm just hoping the chillies take off soon as that will be my sweet revenge.
My strawberries were thriving on being forgotten - I had some self-seeded lettuce going to seed in the tubs they are in, plus a radish going to seed flopping over from the garden next to them. Apparently that's the way they like it because they have been quietly fruiting underneath all that. I've cleaned up the area a bit and put some mesh over the top of them, hopefully they won't decide that's too much attention.
I've also got some raspberries ripening. They are a bit of a pain because they ripen one at a time on each stem, and I have to cover each stem with a bag to keep the birds off. So every day I have to remove and replace a bunch of bags to get a small handful of raspberries. When I move I will definitely be investing in a proper cage so I can cover the whole plant.
I would like some curried strawberries on brown rice with a selection of seasonal vegetables please Bacon. And a large strawberry daiquiri. I don't care who you have to steal the strawberries from.
Mr Piffles, The World's First Magic Performing Chihuahua died last week - a day after Toby. I met Mr Piffles in Vegas back in 2016 and he was a very good boy indeed.
Do all the things today. Makes your day off that much sweeter.
Personally, I don't mind doing chores and errands on my day off. Go at my own pace, no rush, listen to music, ignore the world around me (unless I'm driving).
Do it today. Petrol usually goes up on Friday. Plus, you'll enjoy your day off more if you know you don't need to waste a pile of it doing the shopping.
So my uncle's cat, Casper, had to be euthanised a little while back (he was 20yo, and he just got too sick to go on). So they had an excess of wet cat food and litter. Mickey loves it, though I have to supplement with normal wet food, because this food is for cats with urinary tract issues which I think has a lower amount of taurine. This is fine, he gets a variety anyway.
My issue is it's Purina, which is owned by Nestle. 🤦🏼♀️ Why does the cat have to like the food made by one of the most unethical companies that exist today? 😭
It’s pretty hard to avoid Nestle entirely if you look even mildly into the connected companies. I dodge what I know about, but give up regarding Milo because nothing else is close enough for Himself’s morning brew
You can buy straight taurine as a powder off iHerb. I used to use it along with other supplements in a home cooked medical diet from a vet nutritionist (but Melbcat decided the meals weren’t yummy 😔)
Other options are feeding him heart which is rich in taurine. You can buy beef heart and cut it in strips but 2-3 chicken hearts a day could be very affordable and snack sized. Don’t give too much. I’m not sure whether to serve them whole or cut, cooked or raw, there’s different advice and I always either gave a supplement or fed nutritionally complete food.
Another thing I can’t help with is dosage, because the medical recipes are really specific in how they’re formulated and idk how much the urinary food has. Though the internet says 500mg a day?
If you have any doubts ask your vet about it or just check if the local shelter might accept the food. There might be a kitty there who needs it and the Smitten brand from Woolies says it meets AAFCO guidelines.
I have no idea if it’s really amazing as it claims to be but it’s solid, very cheap, and the American certification is much better than the slack Aussie regulations.
First time I saw that flash animation, I was 12 or 13 and had found ebaumsworld. That was the site that entertained me before Google was around to collate everything into a search list or whatever.
I watched that bloody animation on repeat cackling like a hyena 😂
Ha, I was waiting for someone to say it!
Missiles slowly being loaded now.
And I'd normally be very supportive of chips for dinner but somehow my gut didn't like it - cramps, burping and farting like a MF. Also super dehydrated. All good now though.
Pulled the longest hair out of my shoulder. Blonde, curly, and about 6cm in length. Sadly did not have a matching one on the other shoulder, so it had to go.
Edit: ::: spoiler stardew valley stuff
oh also, I've been playing stardew valley on mobile, and it plays really well!! There's a few options for controller, but I went with the visible joystick and buttons. But yeah, it's a great game, and I know I'm late to the party (patient gamers anyone lol), but it's so fun! I've been super casual, I occasionally look something up but haven't spoiled myself with its depth (because I know it's a deep game).

I’m wondering if it’s very smart to be feeding the magpies and encouraging them around with bird flu going on. Especially with an elderly cat. I can’t find much about the situation in Australia.
I shouldn’t worry but I see they’ve been dropping feathers and pooping in the back yard, and if I tracked something in and gave Melbcat a treat off the floor… Normally I remove my shoes at the door but my guests don’t. And I’ve been a bit slack myself sometimes.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, carpet is gross.
Edit: I still haven’t decided if it’s ok to provide water in Summer. I would but you’re meant to be cleaning it frequently at the best of times and I’m not able to manage. There is water they can get elsewhere.
I say this with absolute kindness - I understand your worry for Melbcat, but if feeding the magpies is bringing you a little bit of joy, I don't think you should let your fear get in the way. I'm sure you're incredibly diligent with giving her treats and wouldn't give her one from the floor if you thought someone might have tracked something inside.
I did give her some on the floor yesterday because she wouldn’t come get on the bed… slack. Luckily she didn’t eat them.
I like feeding the maggies but hope I’m not giving them too much or attracting disease.
Carpet is so gross especially when she keeps throwing up… and also it collects dust. I kind of wish I had a hard floor to sweep and mop clean with machine washable rag rugs (though those might be a trip hazard)
Bird flu (H1N5) is not yet in Australia and you'll know when it is because it's not gonna be great for our wildlife - it will hit chickens or migratory species first though, IM <semi-informed> O. And magpies are 'catholic' feeders; as long as you aren't going overboard or being silly and feeding them rubbish they will be fine with a little treat. And good enough hygiene is ok - even with your and Melbcat's health concerns.
Can lightning strike - yes. Are you significantly increasing that risk by carefully connecting with wildlife - no.
I put out water on a hot day but when it's not summer there's tons around.
source: I'm not a biologist but I work with and hang out with birdos. Also have experience living with immunocompromised peeps so I do understand
Removed the homemade baits a week or two ago and saw a roach last night 🤢 I guess that means they work though. I’m going to have to do the dishes and wipe everything down then order more icing sugar to rebait.
I’ve just been resting and only done one load of laundry today because I didn’t get a lot of sleep and am in a bit of pain.
The zucchini are getting bigger by the day and in the windowboxes spinach and carrots are starting to come up.
Ps. I had to retype the first part because I backspaced a few characters for a typo and it glitched to continue until it deleted everything. Gremlins
TV review part 2 Pokerface. In the final episodes Charlie's pursuers finally catch up with her. She saves herself , helps save some others from organised crime, solves a mystery or two and makes a friend in the fbi.
