I'm more than a little tired of the double standards that the media and MAGA folks have for politicians. Trump spews out a constant stream of attacks against his opponents, to the point that it's riled up his supporters to storm the capital and kill police officers. But as soon as someone else calls them out, then the pearl clutching comes out.
The problem is that they never hear about the stuff MAGA folks do. Fox doesn't report about it, but they blast Biden's gaffes from the rooftops, meaning more mainstream news orgs have to cover Biden's gaffes or risk looking like they're playing favorites. So the MAGAs never hear about the evil stuff Trump says unless they go looking for it--which they only do if they want to hear it from him anyway.
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter’s — his, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.”
It definitely came out sounding wrong. The mid-sentence correction from “supporter’s demonization” to “his demonization” does make it sound like “supporters” (without the apostrophe), but i don’t think he ever intended to call any individuals garbage. Just actions.
I'm quite confident you can criticize the people rallying in support for a guy that spent the last month paraphrasing Hitler and Mussolini. Just call them "garbage". It's well deserved.
But that makes MAGA and Trump the bad guy! I am sure Biden was slandering us. Oh, and you are a cuck, Kamala is a c*** who slept her way to be VP, Let's Go Brandon, Mexicans are murderers and rapists, Haitians are eating cats and dogs, veterans are suckers and losers, and Putin is a genius.
You suppose there are people out there that were on the fence about voting, then heard the speaker at Trump's rally say that Puerto Rico was garbage floating in the ocean, then heard Biden say the only garbage he saw was from Trump's supporters - and those people were like "well I'm not voting for Harris now"?
Those people might well exist but I think it's fair to say that if the survival of American democracy depends on convincing people like that to not support the obviously evil candidate then we're well past the point that the derailment of the train can be avoided.
Harris gets to have her cake and eat it too, though; she can say she disagrees to give herself a little bit of distance from Joe in the eyes of the moderate right, and at the same time she gets the press bump on the moderate left from her boss saying it. Honestly, it's probably going to go well for her.
