Isn't insulting russians against most instances policies?
In the expulsion of russian maintainers thread there are multiple people who are insulting russians as a whole. Isn't insulting people for their nationality against lemmy.world CoC? Is it allowed to insult egyptians or vietnamese people in a similar way?
If someone was to say "Americans are trying to elect a criminal for President." That would be true. Even though, I personally, am an American, and I am not trying to elect a criminal.
Sounds like you're getting insulted by assuming people mean ALL Russians, when they really mean "this specific group of Russians"
Top comment is from fedia.io, they are insulting both the country and Russians.
Their instance policies state:
"Hate speech and abusive or threatening behavior is not permitted, specifically that which directed at any gender, nationality, religion, race, age, pizza topping preference, or sexual identity. One can hate on systemd all day long here."
If you think it's a violation, report it. If they do nothing with it...you're out of luck.
The rules for any instance boil down to, at their most basic level, "every moderation decision is up to the people who run their instance, and there is no appeal."
It seems like fedia.io is a difference instance. You can ask lemmy.world to defederate from them. You can also block the instance yourself. Go to your settings and at the bottom block the instance.
Just a guess, but no? Insults are subjective I suppose and not being able to 'insult' a country or it's people would make many discussions impossible I think.
Not sure. The content policy doesn't seem to be super watertight to me. You're not allowed to attack users or groups. And "the Russians" aren't a user. And I'd say it's debatable whether "group" means group of Lemmy users or group of people in general. They also rule out other behaviour against any living being, but insulting them isn't part of what's prohibited... Just proper harassment.
So I'd say it's not very clear whether that kind of behaviour is against their rules. If you're unsure, you can always flag a comment or post and let the moderators decide. They should know. And it's their job to make that decision anyways.
I agree with what you wrote but the situation will get worse over time in many social sites.
Americans and many Europeans have a terrible track record of discrimination in wartime, the last few generations, and it’s hardly going to change now.
And while many of the nations are not officially at war , they are in some things that matter
Usually war has to stop for a few years before the targeted ethnic groups see a change.
