Etsy's new Adult Nudity and Sexual Content policy, which was quietly published at the end of June, bans sex toys, porn and other adult products as of July 29.
Etsy is flooded by dropshipping junk sold as "artisanal" and handmade and AI art print but sure, the issue they need to tackle now is someone selling handmade dildos. Sad stuff
I mean, obviously, this is horrible. This is someone's livelihood falling victim to the unsettling trend of dispassionate corporations unilaterally instituting zero-tolerance policies on sexual content, just to squeeze an extra couple bucks out of puritanical advertisers that people don't even like having around in the first place, and trying to pass it off as "safety". It's transparently regressive and does next-to-nothing to benefit the end user and absolutely nothing to benefit creators, and barely even benefits the corporation itself enough to be a justifiable decision — just ask Tumblr, OnlyFans, and the late Gfycat how their adult content bans worked out. It's capitalism at its worst, aside from all those other worse parts of capitalism. It's a very serious and concerning situation and I extend my sympathies to the creators affected, and all the handcrafted marital aid enthusiasts whom this decision will see deprived.
I'm sure I'll get crucified for this, but it needs to be said that the rapid swing towards puritanical values in our society is largely because too many people can't behave themselves recently, when they are given the freedom to express themselves openly.
People can't behave themselves "recently"? Do you think there was a magic time in history where humans ever "behaved"? As far as I am aware, people have been fucking since they were biologically capable of it and many societies haven't been prude about it. (The Kanamara [Penis] Festival is probably a great example.)
The reason you got down voted is not because you said something controversial, it's because it's a comment that makes zero sense and is extremely out of touch.
