Looks good though. It's only when you receive it do you realise it's been slam dunked into the bag from the other side of the room. I'd still call it a parma if I ordered it.
Fucking called it!!!
Sit down for for dinner last night and the mrs goes "what we we doing this weekend?"
"not much, why?"
"Well, I got a message from (Couple I complained about yesterday) wondering if we.."
"nope! heck no we're not doing that. Whatever it is, its a no from me."
She stares at me a few seconds "Why?"
"We talked about this last weekend babe, we are NOT getting pulled into this shit! the other day was exhausting, i need some space from them"
She goes on to admit the message was very strange and almost like we didn't have a choice in the matter. I pointed out as adults we very much do have a choice. I so saw this coming, I may not have understood it but I was apprehensive enough to bring it up yesterday I must've had a 6th sense.
Yeah avoid that dumpster fire. Life's complex and exhausting enough without taking on other people's BS. Especially if they're in a situation where they could do something about their drama but won't due to reasons.
When they're like "you got any investments bro? What about income from dividends? Don't know what a dividend is? Oh, just put down "no" then, you poor fuck"
On the other hand when you have to answer "yes" it starts opening up a bunch of complicated questions to wade through. I put a small amount of money into some investment funds a couple of years ago and now I get to wade through a whole bunch of extra questions, all over tiny amounts of money. It's all stuff like $20 of franking credits, $2.31 in foreign investment offsets and $6 of capital gains. I'm looking forward to hitting the age I can access Super and can just shove money in there and take it out tax free without all the hassle.
The last time I did my tax that quickly I realised later I missed something and had to do an amendment. Turns out it meant the tax refund I had already received was higher than it should have been, so I had to repay the ATO 8c.
Modern tax return stuff is so good how it already knows about all of my dividend and interest payments etc. Most things are auto-filled but I just need to crack open my google doc I keep with my expenses I put in and keep track of purchases I can claim, whack that stuff in there, get briefly mad at how much tax I pay every year and then hit submit. Probably takes me about 10 minutes. 15 with a double-check of everything.
It's certainly a massive improvement on the old paper forms. The early electronic lodgements were also basically just the paper form online, all of this automatic stuff makes it so much easier.
Before I came to Australia I had this impression that tax was Awful and Complicated and A Nightmare - primarily from American media - and this was before I was old enough to have needed to file a tax return.
Lie on side - raise top arm and possibly knee to create cat tent with doona - she may go under and then you can possibly slowly lower the doona down over the lower half of her body.
It might be more effective with a heat source to tempt her in.
Maybe Melbcat is unusually cuddly for a cat though
I do not like that forecast. I looked at the predications for the next week and the coldest mornings are all the ones I'm working (which means 4am wakeup). Two days -1, one day 0, and a pleasantly warm 2 degrees for the other. There should be an extra penalty rate or allowance for early starts in below zero temperatures.
So, Planet Ark are trying to register an account to join aussie.zone. I would normally have rejected their application, as they are giving the vibe of 'we want to spam'. So, I reached out to them on their contact form. I thought it possible they had a google analytics alert and noticed us discussing their products recently.
But, that was longer ago than I realised: It feels like we talked about that a few weeks ago. So now I'm back to thinking they want to spam. Gah!
I want answers, but I don't want ads. I suppose I'll wait to see if/how they respond to my website query.
Businesses routinely have alerts on their brands with Google. It's quite possible they got an email from Google that we were talking about their products. That part actually makes sense to me.
If they had applied for an account within a week or so of that discussion, and said in their application they were joining the site in response to it - I'd have thought it completely reasonable.
Hot water bottle just woke me up cos sprang a leak. Only by now it's a slightly warm water bottle which is a relief. And it's only on its third year of use. Damn. TGF mattress protector. Would not be fun drying a mattress this time of year.
Wait until you get a rose thorn stabbing, and end up going to the doc for a penicillin injection. Which they administer with a sharpened hose pipe into your gluteus maximus. Rose thorns do gangrene really really well apparently. Learned my lesson from that experience and now wear gloves when I'm anywhere near roses. Never knew that lemons were particularly hazardous - thanks for the info!
I go for the pre training review thingy today. They sent me the link yesterday and reiterated I had to fill out the LLN assessment prior to the PTR, so i wrote back to ask if they'd received my assessment, and they never replied which is always a good sign.
I feel like this is a bit of a pivotal moment for me, and this is about the point I'd start making saves if this were a game...
In other news, I was finally able to go watch that bad men movie on Sunday (3rd time's the charm, I guess). I enjoyed it, even though I never saw the other one(s? I think it's a trilogy). I pieced enough of it together to still enjoy myself.
Edit: it didn't really go anywhere. Apparently being in high school I need a letter before I can start the course, even though I'm apparently old enough to just decide I want to leave. And of course it's now school holidays so I can't get it until the 12th, 4 days before my course starts....
Retreating to bed cause it’s fucking freezing. Fortunately got the electric blanket on in preparation so beds nice and warm at least. Reckon I’ll leave the electric towel rail on tonight too just so don’t freeze my junk off when I get up at 6am.
Such beautiful weather out today! I wish I wasn't stuck in an office for most of it. Tonight is gonna be froooosty, I'm STOKED that I can roll outta bed late tomorrow. Have a meeting on campus at 2, plan is to try and finish all my work off by noon and quietly clock off after that. Would love to have a stroll round campus after if tomorrow's as beautifully sunny as today.
If you change your password, but your password manager fails to capture it did you really even change your password?
According to the system? Yes, you very much did.
A password manager that doesn't capture a password is about as useful as an indicator on a BMW.
At least LastPass asks you if you want to update your password after you've changed it.
I'm using 1password and much prefer it. But it asks when the password is generated. What if the password field has a bunch of rules I need to follow and have to make edits after?
and today on "searches that will get me on a list"
Moorabbin was once renowned for its springs. I am randomly trying to find where they were. Unfortunately I am surrounded by goddamn car repair shops so guess what fucking comes up when you search "Moorabbin springs" so now I'm digging at hydrogeological data for the entire port phillip bay area to find the aquifers....
nah, that's one of the soaks, there's a whole system that runs down the eastern side of warragul down to mordi. Most of the springs were apparently in cheltenham, which is insane to me.
(fun fact: I used to spend the four hour break between tech C and accounting at TAFE whacking the shit out of golf balls at the driving range that used to be where the bypass is now. That whole park area was tip)
More than the 3% that government policy caps the offer for all their other workers at. But the politicians themselves and the executives get to have different rules.
I washed the woolen underlay I use as a dog blanket a couple of weeks ago and hung it outside to dry. I missed taking it in before rain hit so it had to stay out longer. Now I have a magpie coming in regularly to collect nesting material from it, so I guess it has to stay there now.
I am trying to space out my watching of the Bear season 3 but it's so hard. You know the show is good when it's a flashback episode, and you know it turns out ok, but you are still on the edge of your seat the whole time.
I'm partway through s3 e9 and I definitely found this season a lot more spaced out and chill than the past two seasons. It seems to be the reason it's not so popular either, but I like it. More slow-burn character exposés and a great showcase of the acting talent, after the frenetic pace of the last two seasons. I've read that they filmed s4 at the same time so it tracks that they're taking longer with plot developments this time around.
I'm not that far yet. Just finished the Tina episode. I just love the characters and for such relatively short episodes they really pack a lot of depth in. I am enjoying the pace too
Well..it's certainly still stressful but I have enjoyed it the whole way through. S2 had a couple of very intense episodes but S3 is more chill (tho I am waiting for something terrible around the corner).
You ever wonder if you're just tired a lot or if you're actually Stage 3 something or other and just haven't gone to the doctor? I think I might have hypochondria.
Whaaaaat! Western shirt - tight fitting cotton plaid, sometimes with press studs. Flannel shirt - made with flannelette cotton (which is thicker) or wool, worn looser with ordinary buttons.
I grew up hearing "western shirt", another term was a Miller Shirt as that was the popular brand. But then it had to have pearl snaps. I expect flannel shirts have buttons.
3 degrees here. Cold air was very sharp taking the rubbish out. I think it’s gonna get colder than the predicted low overnight. Be prepared for a very frost morning.
I've accepted that my curry leaf plants and chillies are gonna look pretty shit tomorrow and not get any better until late September at least. I'm just thoroughly enjoying my warm living room, but better roll out of it and into bed soon before the bedroom oil heater goes off its timer.
To protect from frost, if they are in the ground you can cover with something like tarp or sheet, if in pots bring inside or a sheltered location like garage. Good luck little plants! It’s gonna be a tough week for the frost sensitive ones.
Absolutely freezing taking the bins out just now. Driving home a couple of hours ago my car was saying 3 degrees when I got to my hood, so it’d be close to 0 already.
Booked in for five hours of karaoke last night. I think in the last hour, I sang one song. But it was really nice to spend time with friends who I can be myself around and have fun with :) they accept my weirdness!
(Is that not the point of friendship? Some people I feel like I have to mask around more than others)
I'm also grateful for reading the responses to these threads! :)
Grateful I got WFH approved tomorrow to take the edge off everything I gotta do this week! And grateful to weekend me for meal prepping enough to last me til Thursday 👍
I've been listening to Chappell Roans album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and I'm in love.
lovey mushy goo goo shite
My partner came home from work last night and started playing Stellaris while listening to the album as well. He said we should go see her if she comes to Aus. He says one of the reasons he loves me is that I never judge him for liking Pop music, and I sing along with him to Call Me Maybe lol. He knows the lyrics better than I do.
Knee deep in the passenger seat, and you're eating me out
Is it casual now?
Those lines are virulent, so damn catchy. Naked in Manhattan and My Kink is my Karma are my favs so far I think, but it's hard because every song is great!
I just picked up an overtime shift and my inner accountant is thrilled. The rest of me is not so pleased with the addition of another early morning wakeup to my week ☹️
I know they get a lot of hate, but I actually like the new short Coles paper bags. They have about the same effective carrying capacity (unless you are buying something really light like a bulk purchase of marshmallows) but are much less likely to end up torn. They also seem more stable, things don't end up rolling around inside the bag as much. The larger bags almost always ended up torn during delivery when they had cans of cat food and similar in them, it hasn't happened once with the shorter ones.
Done the last of the repotting and prepared 3 big pots for jalapeno seedlings. Sewed up the outdoor toy penguin and put it out. Done daiso shopping, bought gloves, no one had fingerless gloves so imma just cut the fingers off myself. Got all the sewing haberdashery I need to do some french embroidery on my jumper. All the tapestry fabric for recovering the chairs is cut out and ready. Pizza is being done. Cats are brushed and fed.
I refuse to listen to the news, the whining from the dems is driving me crazy. Just fricking use power and do something.
