Attention Helldivers, Due to technical issues at the launch of HELLDIVERS™ 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire. See details below in this post. Account linking plays a critical role i...
Well, well, well. I see Sony wants to kill all the goodwill their game has garnered with this linking bullshit.
Whelp, it was fun while it lasted... Good job sony.
Apparently this is already a massive problem for people who are in countries that PSN is not avalible in, using a VPN to create an account to link to has resulted in getting banned. Also seeing as most players are already past the Steam refund window, this is utterly unacceptable.
I dont want to blame Arrowhead too much, this reeks of partnership/publisher meddeling. If they made it so that linking account is not required if crossplay is disabled, I would find that acceptable.
I set Steam to ignore all Playstation products, but I've been meaning to do that for over a year now. It has nothing to do with Helldivers. I don't Sony anymore.
Anyone know if Ghost of Tsushima is gonna require a PSN account? You know, since they're adding in that whole overlay thing. I always figured it was gonna be optional but now, I'm not so sure.
For Helldivers specifically here, the PSN requirement was listed on the Steam page at launch. It wasn't enforced, but it was disclosed.
Not saying I agree, it's a shitty move that definitely seems like it's being forced by Sony who couldn't care any less about publicity. But this requirement was already there for anyone that bothered to read the store page, even if it wasn't enforced at the time.
Account required of you want the multiplayer aspect, which is why I will not buy it since that's the only reason I want to buy and play it since I've already finished it on the PS4 with a physical copy.
The post says this: "This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal."
I find that of dubious justification, but that's their explanation.
If folks were required to log in day one we wouldn't be having any discussion. Instead its months post release they're putting that requirement in place, so clearly a PSN account isn't that important. Lots of folks feel like its a bait and switch.
