I burnt my fingers last night which prompted me to yell some very very bad words followed by DO NOT COME INTO THE KITCHEN. WE ARE NOT EATING TONIGHT and I'm not even a yeller.
They're still red today but atleast the swelling has gone down and nothing beer o clock can't fix.
Eldest minipeeler accidentally kicked Miniest full in the face while sparring last night. He was mortified and ran to his room upset; she thought he was going for a high kick and basically ducked straight into it. She's ok after a little blood nose but I keep telling them to knock it off, "starts in laughter ends in tears" kind of thing, someone will get hurt, not enough room in a small crowded living room etc. I'm only their mother, what do I know‽ My siblings were from my parents previous marriages and almost adults by the time I was born, so I'm not used to the mucking around casual violence of children growing up together, and sometimes feel emotionally ill-equipt to parent it
Also finally figured out a few things with my car, Somehow I ended up with a leak thanks to a plastic bag being stuck in my back boot and water seeped in via that and made a giant pool where my spare type compartment was.
Discovered it while I was at work and furiously got some containers to scoop as much of the water out.
When I got home I paper toweled and dried everything as much as possible and lifted the compartment panel which will hopefully air dry what little is left but finally now I can rest easy know where that mysterious slushing sound of water was coming from whenever I stopped at a set of traffic lights.
Just saw yet another accident. Ute got inpatient waiting behind a truck going straight so tried to drive down the wrong side of the road to get to the right turn lane and clipped the side of the truck. Low speed, so minor and no injuries, but it did jumpscare me lol. Then he nearly reversed into us.
I've seriously seen more car crashes in the last 6 months than I have in my entire 16.5 years of existence before the last 6 months
I decided to venture back to IKEA just for the funnies. Apparently if you become family with the IKEA you get 50% off the restaurant on Fridays, so they taught me how to do that. Then I saw they give you discounts on containers so I was like I may as well buy one while I'm here. Then when I was checking out a couple of IKEA people came up to me and asked if I scanned the container.
So uhh, TIL (the hard way) at IKEA you need to scan and pay for containers and their lids. The lids do not come with the containers
Had to keep it real with a Vietnamese teenage boy and inform him that Koalas are not naturally cuddly and in fact can be quite vicious and scratch you. Only Koalas kept in captivity will tolerate at best human contact.
Ok so I was going to do classic movie + pizza night tonight but I'm really not feeling very hungry. I haven't really eaten much today either. I did have a plate of Sweden meatballs from IKEA (pretty sure it would have been illegal not to), but that's really all I've eaten today. And watching the godfather without pizza just doesn't feel right.
I might just watch more prisoner. I'm about half way through the 600 episodes
So I went to kmart to buy a dog harness and lead for ted cat because the cat ones are too small. This way I hope to let him have some outside time without running away.
I haven't attempted to put it on him yet. 😬 Photos coming soon.
It's been happening for at least ten years. "On both sides."
Intolerance is the message. They say, "Don't talk with people who have different ideas, all opposing beliefs are evil and the others must be rejected, even family."
Discussion and conciliation are never even discussed as options.
The way you can tell it's a troll of an adversary, such as Russia or Iran, is that solutions are never offered or asked for.
Unfortunately many well meaning people just repeat these methods with thinking.
What to do. Be vigilant in asking questions and asking for solutions. Be careful of when others use emotionally charged political words. Be morally and legally consistent. A crime is a crime no matter who does it. A good action is good no matter who does it.
PSA: this is not medicare, if you get this message just ignore and delete. I get quite a few spam/scam texts, but I figured I'd put this here because this one is impersonating medicare.
Remember, they wouldn't send you a link to click, and always read the URL. It's always going to be something that's dodgy.
Got this exact one a few days ago. And a call from Thailand. And of course, my tolls are once again unpaid. I really feel sorry for older people. The scam situation is out of control.
I reported it with PhishReport (that website I mentioned the other day), and here's what that looks like for anyone curious:
First you open a case on PR:
Then you submit it to google safe browsing
Then to Microsoft's Threat Intelligence page:
Then to the domain registrar (who provide the domain (site) name). In this case it's NameSilo and they're kind of shit when it comes to this sort of thing, but they do do their job so I can't complain I guess:
Then normally you'd submit a report to their domain host (who actually host the phishing page), but they use a Chinese host, Tencent, who really don't want to do anything so they make it difficult and phish report doesn't have a link to their phishing report page, just their copyright takedown page, so you'd probably need to email them. I decided to not bother for now
It seems that a lot of scams now are based out of China. Most of the phishing links I get, at least the ones targetting Australians, are coming from china. And Chinese companies really really really do not want to do anything about such phishing and scam websites. Tencent always cause me problems when I try to report them. They also demand all your personal information, so I submit my reports to them with false information, because I don't really want them passing along my address and personal information to criminals. But that's unfortunately just how it is now
Update: namesilo placed their domain into Client hold, which essentially renders their domain useless unless removed.
If you're into a more technical explanation that hopefully doesn't just sound like jargon:
spoiler
Basically what they've done is deactivate what's known as DNS records. DNS records are what actually tells visitors browsers where the site itself is. The site itself is on a Tencent server somewhere in china and still exists (it hasn't been deleted or removed or anything). But without the DNS records, people visiting the dodgy domain have no way to know where the sites content is. I imagine namesilo will not be renewing their domain, so that means for the next year or so, the site will not be visitable.
But it doesn't seem to have taken effect just yet, possibly because it's cached by someone somewhere. Within 24 hours it should be completely done though
I got a scam toll text that actually got past the spam filter recently. I checked my account through the proper means and found out Linkt had been charging me a manual lookup fee because my e-tag hasn't been working. This has been going on for years.
And you wonder why they choose toll payments as their scam
Kind of actually very grateful now that I didn't start my new job today. I have ended up with a mountain of admin! Got accepted to my course but there was a whole bunch of calling and form-filling that followed due to unique circumstances. That took a few hours. And I got my latest power bills which FINALLY prodded me to do the annual switch (several months overdue - could've been saving $50 a month! - but better late than never). Plus I'm waiting on the pre purchase inspection results for the car, any minute now I should be getting a phone call and email to go through the options, then I need to enter negotiations (urgh).
A friend wants me to go help them with some measurements and shit around 4:30pm today, that'll get me out of the house which is great.
Meanwhile, the shit is starting to go down again in the Middle East. Maybe this is a bad time to be buying an ICE car, but at least this one has relatively low fuel consumption...
The funniest was at the 48 stop outside southern x and the arrival kept ticking from 3mins, to 2, back to 3, then 1 for a solid 15 mins. Then it arrives with no one on it. Sort of like the movie ghost ship.
Kew, so close yet so far away. Honestly it boggles the mind how long the tram takes. A good chunk of time is just spent going down Collins St and creakily turning into Vic Pde. Not having a train is a bit of a far Kew to residents.
I've been road testing Aldi's organic black tea because Choice declared it the best tea and I don't know how it came to that conclusion. I'm not good at describing liquids but I'll give it a go anyway.
There's a distinct taste of floral. It wasn't overly strong. Definite dry aftertaste on the palate. To me it lacked a base taste. Like if tea was 3D then this would be 2D. It tasted flat.
It would be good as a Billy tea because it had a bushy earthy taste. Bushells, Tetley, Twinings all taste better imo. Anyway it wasn't bad, I'll keep drinking it but I wouldn't buy it again. 3.5 / 5 yum yums.
Decided to play Fallout 4 again, and made the female player character as Marilyn Monroe as I could. The husband I made James Dean but he died early (too soon?) so no harm lol.
Elder minipeeler loves the whole Fallout 4 thing. Being an idle observer of his gaming, I find fallout 4 and RDR2 to be the most entertaining games he plays.
I really love Fallout 4, but I definitely reccomend Fallout: New Vegas. It can be hard going to an older graphic style, and I don't think there is an option to sprint, but if Master Elder Minipeeler likes F4, then I reckon they will love NV. The world building is incredible, the quests, the companions, the everything is just a real big 9/10. If it goes on sale I 100% reccomend picking it up.
There are some heavy themes, however, as one of the factions (Caesers Legion) is heavily misogynistic. But you don't have to side with them, and you can definitely murder them all lol. Wishing them safe travels and high adventure in The Commonwealth (and the Mojave, if you get NV :D)
Very enjoying Baby Reindeer on Netflix. It is quite strange, and very good imo. TL:dr: Failing comedian leads on a stalker, even after knowing she's a stalker. Shit gets weird. Themes are quite dark, and include rape and sexual assault. Only 4 EPs in but would recommend
Ugh. We started using it for work during the lockdowns, but now it's only used for odd rare work messaging. Might see if I can get the boss to knock it on the head.
I am currently fuming about this too. I don't even have auto update enabled on my apps so how did it happen? Turns out WhatsApp apparently can roll out server-side updates at any time??? And there's no way to opt out of this stupid update either.
I can't not use it either as it's the only way I can stay in touch with most of my relatives, I can't get them to switch to Telegram or Signal...
Well, for me I don't trust meta. And yes I know WhatsApp is meta, but I'm sort of locked into it on account of almost everyone I am in contact with using it. Just don't like the idea of meta based AI possibly using my messages for learning.
Just listening to some soundtrack playlists and Shape of Water came up.
Just realised Shape of Water is The Little Mermaid but in reverse. Eliza is as happy as she can possibly be where she is in the dry world, it's her nature to be happy, but it's not where she belongs.
I re-downloaded Path Of Exile but maybe that was a bad idea... the last time I played some of the weird visual stuff gave me nausea and headaches. Perhaps it wouldn't be smart to try again :/
Also I saw a pack of 3 styluses on the Big W site which is quite cheap, cheaper than one of the kind I currently have, and they look more than adequate for spares. Even have a finer pen tip. But I'd be buying through Big W Market which puts me off. I assume it's a third party
Is there a particular name for a sushi roll that's cone shaped? Not a cylinder - rolled into a cone around a generous dose of filling with one very narrow end and one wide one. Seriously so much easier to eat as the filling/rice doesn't fall out the end for the last couple of bites.
Yes, it's temaki, which means "hand roll". Sounds confusing at first, but your usual cylindrical sushi (maki sushi) is not meant to be served or sold as a hand roll like they are here, it's meant to be served sliced. So the only real "hand roll" sushi is the cone type. But it doesn't pack very well so I guess that's why it's not commonly sold here.
Thanks! The one surviving sushi joint in Bridge Road Richmond has these - top and tailed two to a pack. Haven't been in there for a while, so I was happy to see these and a very nice selection of very pretty bento boxes. Real works of art. Wabi Sushi near corner of Church St if anyone else is interested.
