Sync for Lemmy

Let's face it: the app has been abandoned for longer than is acceptable, especially at this price level. It's no longer working correctly on newer Lemmy versions, and there's no indication the dev is still active.

Yes, he worked similarly during Reddit times, but a) Sync was much cheaper back then, and b) Reddit didn't change as much.

Right now, to unsuspecting users Sync seems great given the 4.9 star rating on the Play Store. They'll possibly buy this app before noticing that it's subtly broken.

Please consider giving Sync a bad rating, but if you do so, explain why. Write about the broken functionality, so others don't fall into the same trap.

Hey guys, just like the title says, I'm trying to reset my password but I can't find any fucking info on it. I forgot my password. There's no link to reset your password. There's no nothing on it. Sooooooo how do you do it?? I got to do food so I'm trying to log in on my new phone but obviously you don't ever remember your passwords. Every fucking account you make so I need to reset my password so you guys see my dilemma.

There was a recent update allowing for more options for viewing votes, which I believe has broken the app in this regard. When logging in from other instances tgat don't have these changes yet, it works as expected.

At first I thought it was a federation issue of some sort but then realized voyager was working fine.

Sync is my favorite Lemmy app, but come on can we at least get some bug fixes once in a while?

Sometimes when I'm replying to a comment, the reply will not get posted to the correct place in the thread... The few times this has happened, the reply ends up getting posted to the root/OP instead.

It will appear as though I'm replying to the correct comment while in the compose screen.

I woke up this morning, and I cannot get anything to load in the app. I see the loading icon for a while and eventually get "error loading page."

Edit: I restarted my phone, and everything is working fine now.

When trying to load my subscribed feed, more often than not I get an error. It tries for about 20 seconds but then times out. This happens with infinite scrolls too, it takes a while before I can actually see new posts.

While this is much more common on this Lemmy instance (feddit.nl) than e.g. my alt account on lemmynsfw, the official web-UI doesn't have this issue at all, nor does Photon (at least, the web-app hosted at ph.feddit.nl).

There doesn't seem to be a difference between 4g, 5g and wifi, and turning on/off rethink dns doesn't change anything either. I've also tried toggling the https over dns option, which again does not have any impact.

Reboots, force stopping and clearing cache also do not have an effect.

If anyone else experiences similar problems, or has a potential solution, I'd gladly hear them.

Whenever I see an article in a post, and try using the sync ultra feature to summarise it, it always just says "No summary found". Does this work for anyone else?

I generally browse "new" a few times to find new and interesting content, but this also means I will encounter a bunch of things I'm not interested in or simply don't understand, i.e. a regional community from another country.

I can use the filter option to filter the instance, community or user, but if you navigate to the community you can also hit "block".

What's the difference between these two, functionally?

I would love for a convenient way to copy a user's name, like [email protected], from a user's comment or post.

Similarly, I would like to be able to copy the community's name from a post, comment, or the community page itself, like [email protected]

When you receive a notification of a reply to a comment you made, it would be very useful to be able to access the post itself, rather than just the parent comment thread.

I was able to comment in these threads from my PC via the Alexandrite frontend, but attempting to view those comments via Sync displays "Could not load post" with an option to Retry, which does not succeed.

Post 1 appears visible when opening the community, but opening the post displays the same error. Post 2 (the sh.itjust.works link which is posted on a lemmy.world community) the post does not appear in the community at all in Sync.

Confirmed that these communities/users are not blocked on my account, and no filters set within the app should apply to these posts either.

Per this thread, I'm wondering if it might be possible to create feeds of favourited people or communities.

I guess this would be similar to how multireddits worked and since that's not available on Lemmy, this might not be either. But maybe some smart person out there knows of a way.

It's not even me that wants to do it, but I'm invested in an answer now! :-)

Is there any particular reason why pasting an image from clipboard works in some places, but not others? I have not been able to determine what prevents it from working? Is this an issue with Sync? It doesn't seem to depend on the Lemmy instance.

I've been using Sync for at least three years, and I've been a vocal advocate of the app, but I don't feel right paying for ad free anymore.

I am unable to transfer my paid account to my new phone and yet Google continues to take out my $2.13 every month. I understand everyone needs time away sometimes but I don't see how LJD feels right accepting people's money while providing ZERO support for months on end, and never bothering to at least appoint a maintainer in his absence.

I see issues piling up with this app and I'm forced to look at ads while LJD does whatever he wants and takes my money. I feel stupid that I've been paying this man for years to provide a good experience just to be taken for a ride like this.

I had bought the lifetime pro back in the Reddit days, I paid for pro subscription while using Lemmy, and at this point I'm just done. I hate writing this post because I've been a happy, continual premium user of this app for literally years, but there's only so much I can handle.

One thing I really like about Android 15 is the way back navigation is animated. Unfortunately, not a lot of apps support it since this was not available for a while and a lot of apps rolled their custom solutions. Maybe you could change that in Sync?

I think I was able to upload screenshots recently from my phone, but trying to upload photos from my phone's gallery failed to load. I am not the most tech savvy, but I was able to post photos this way in the past.

I have been emailing some photos to myself, and able to post them to lemmy from my desktop after they fail to upload from Sync.

Is there a problem with my method? or Sync? or Lemmy.world?

I have auto update enabled on my phone for Sync.

Does anyone have advice, or thoughts to share?

It looks like the cct-incognito flag has been removed from Chrome v130.0.6723.58

I have two accounts in the app. One of them, if I go to Settings > General has "Drawer Navigation" and "Bottom Navigation"

My other account doesn't have these options at all.

This happened before and then got fixed. I'm not sure what's wrong but if I try to update anything in my account settings I get a network error, unable to save message. For anything in account settings I need to go to my instance directly on a browser and then update and it'll be picked up by sync. This hasn't worked for months and I'm hoping someone here has an idea of what might be wrong.

Hi! I would really appreciate a feature allowing Sync to open Lemmy posts from e.g. my browser. I'm not an Android dev so I do not have a clue of how feasible this is, but it'd make me really happy :)

Given the issue viewing local community comments I'm sadly considering seeing how other apps have matured since I started using Sync. If I stop my sub, but then it gets fixed and I want to come back, will I lose my user tags, etc? Has anyone tried?

(also, Lj, if you see this it's nothing personal, still the best designed app)

I’ve been using Sync for Lemmy for a while and noticed that the app hasn’t been updated in about 3/4 months. So I was kind of wondering if the development of sync is still ongoing?

Additionally, there were some premium features that the developer had promised would come pretty soon, but they still haven’t been added to to sync.

Just curious if anyone knew anything! Perhaps he's just busy with life atm.

Ok so... I was thinking about this in the Sync for Reddit app originally... Maybe the "feature" I'm thinking of already exists and you all already know it but...

I've blocked like... A shitload of people (on sync for reddit... Mostly... But here too sort of) ...

Anyways... Occasionally I want to reconsider a blocking and I would appreciate if there an easy way to view, review, and revise that list within Sync for Lemmy...
