It started leaking oil so the fire brigade came out to sweep it up with sand. I'd already called 000 and the Ambos had already arrived before I write the above comment btw
The cops are slow as usual, but they just called to get further info. The ambos arrived first and they're still here, I overheard them saying they're waiting for police
The dude driving the car rear ended a van that's parked across the road, nobody was in it luckily, and the driver seemed fine, just a bit dazed
Had something similar happen outside my place a few days ago. The bloke over the road had his legally parked bmw flipped clean across the street into the street tree outside my house by a carful of idiots driving too fast through the roundabout in the rain. Horrible noise, the death throes of beautiful engineering. Again, thank goodness, no one was hurt.
It's an arresting sound for sure, especially out the front of your house. It happened years ago out front of a place I lived in a real quiet side street. Basically a situation where one car has to pull over and let the other car through because there wasn't enough room and neither car did, so they had a really slow head-on collision. Myself and neighbours went out front to scratch our heads and ponder the 2 sheepish and embarrassed drivers!
I'm not positive on the story, but it seems that the driver was distracted and didn't see the van parked on the side of the road so rear ended it when he turned the corner right in front of it. Super happy nobody was injured
Mr Procrastinata and I are on holiday in Germany. We’ve arrived in Frankfurt and it’s -2° this morning! Heading for Würzburg where it’s snowing. Winter’s here!
Thou shalt visit at least one christmas market. This is obligatory! And share some photos with us. We have much to learn about christmas markets done properly.
I’ve already visited Frankfurt and Würzburg and they’ve both been really fun. Frankfurt was very crowded but a great atmosphere, Würzburg was much quieter and more laid back. Super fun!
Ooh, hoity toity. Same postcode but the far less glamorous side over here...
That said, I've always preferred the cheese selection at Toscanos. (Get some nice markdowns from time to time) I'd do cheese there and crackers at Leo's.
And maybe if they bought some Jarlsberg or Emmental it might be less unholy. Gouda bless them.
Read that 7-11 in Australia has been bought over by the Japanese parent company. I almost never go to convenience stores myself, but hope this means Australian 7-11s will up their game. Japanese kombini food is legit.
Game changer if they invest in it. There is such a market for GOOD fast food in this country. I saw a line for KFC drive through the other day and almost died of shock. Who queues for food that crappy?!
If you call and I don't pick up, leave a message and wait to be called back. Don't call 3 more times in the space of two hours. Seriously, some people have no shame. Calling me more only makes me want to pick up less.
Dunno if this is gonna register for non-car people, but I need to get this off my chest.
I finally got my old car back from the mechanic (not the Mazda, this is the one I sold to cover the Mazda's debt). Its new owners collect it next weekend so it I took her out for a farewell drive.
This car man... it... shit im gonna tear up again. This car I've had for close to 10 years. None of the previous cars lasted 1/4 of that time. It's almost the most stable relationship of my whole life!
I got this car when I was in my early 20s and it was the start of turning my life around. And I loved it, with everything in my heart.
It wasn't the fastest or the best or anything. But it was reliable, it was sexy and it was fun. And it was my baby! You cant even buy a manual version of it any more, She's rare now!
In every way my new Kia is vastly superior. But damn I will miss that little car. The only way I'm gonna get through this is because I've promised myself one day, before my 40th birthday (years away) I'm gonna go buy the bigger sportier brother of what I had. One day I'll be back. But until then, I'll still think of her.
I owned a nice little manual hot hatch from new, had it for 15 years and loved it. Drove it to far north Queensland, many trips to Sydney and Brisbane, blasts across the Great Alpine Rd and the Great Ocean Rd. We had many adventures together and it was there through all my ups and downs in life.
Traded it in 2017 for a family-friendly kid-safe second car, which is superior in every way (well apart from the fact it's auto, but even that's a plus the way my commute is these days).
However I'd be lying if I didn't say I miss the hell out of my old car, and wish I could have afforded to hang onto it as a fun weekender and eventual project.

SAME! Getting rid of my manual for an auto SUV feels sacrilegious in the highest order.
Hugs mate. I bought my Corolla brand new in 2006 and joked that it'll become a family heirloom some day that I can pass on. The reality is my daughter has her learner's now and it's still going strong. She may get to own it soon.
I kind-of get it. I'm not a car person, but I felt a twinge when I sold my old Pulsar. It was a fantastic car, and the main reason I sold it was because I bought it for a different stage in my life (when I was single). With the four of us, it was simply too small.
So I now have an Outlander. I'll have a similar twinge when I sell it, too. It has already taken us on adventures. Plus, mum rode in it - no future car will have that. I'm not looking forward to whatever makes us get rid of it.
I guess my point is it's a bit sad to say goodbye, but you'll always make new adventures!
I felt this way even with my first very own car which I only had for 3 years. I legit teared up on my last drive back from the mechanic. After spending most of my adult life without a licence let alone a car, I went through so much in such a short time with that car, especaially through big life changes: lockdowns, moving to my own rental, changes in friends...
Felt like I was saying goodbye to a part of me. Nothing particularly special about that car but still...
I better check my privilege but I can't remember the last cinema I sat in which didn't have recliner seats but I am sat in one right now. Garbage Village Cinemas was the only cinema showing Godzilla Minus One on a big screen 👎
I haz new old LPs from op shop 😊 some rare ballet music from the Bolshoi ballet, a weird hawaiian music LP, some modern classical. 7 albums, cost $12 👍
Ugh, came home from my Japan trip to find my roomate has thrashed the stove. He claims that he "burnt hand and dropped a pot on it"...
He didn't even bother to clean up as well, saying that I'm a recovering alcoholic, who's too sick. Well hire a cleaner then. It's pretty poor form not cleaning, after I clean the place up before I go away.
The corner as well. That looks like some serious hard work went into damaging it. Friction AND impact.
Call me a nasty suspicious bitch, but check to see if the fridge is damaged too where it can't be seen. Particularly if it's recessed into a niche.
Make him pay for a replacement as I don't think that finish can be repaired without it being horribly obvious. Also rust issues if not repaired.
Dropped a pot?? It looks like he took to it with an angle grinder! Maybe thinking he can make it chrome instead of black? This dude needs to go. What a liability.
That is the biggest load I’ve heard from looking at the stove. I imagine whatever was cooking if he’d dropped the pot would have been EVERYWHERE and likely a bit more than just a burnt hand.
Heading off for 11 days interstate on Thursday and I'm overcome with panic that I won't finish this work project before I go. Every time I write another section I find more issues that need addressing. Fucking documentation, man... There's a hard limit to the number of hours I can spend on this anyway, and I think I've used 70% of it. So I'm going to have to just accept that it'll be incomplete and that's it. Trying not to go down the "you're mid 30s and still can't estimate your time properly, who would ever trust you in a job" route and relive all the failures and criticisms at this job - just gotta wear it and end this motherfucking chapter of my life already.
Also was very anxious that I have to do a whole bunch of chores before I leave, and I have stuff on Tuesday and Wednesday night... but I've made my packing list, vacuumed the house, now going to make the goddamn vegan kung pao chicken I've procrastinated for 6 days, and tomorrow I'm going to do all the laundry then pack.
The project was only given x number of hours. And given the company's struggling a bit financially these last couple months, plus my boss + admin's general disdain for me, I don't expect them to really add more hours
e: frankly I want it to all end too. I just also want to do a thorough job, which, when it comes to documentation of processes, can very much be how long is a piece of string.
I bought a Waterpik flosser thing a couple of years back (maybe a few years back now) and it has been sitting in my cupboard still sealed until this very day when I finally found myself curious enough to try it out. Turns out there's actually 2 of them in there! One "Ultra" and one "Nano" for smaller bathrooms/travel. I must have been in a very interesting mental space when I bought it because I had no idea.
It's this:
I was sceptical how it could be strong enough to floss just using water in a benchtop machine but it packs a bit of punch! Even made by gum bleed in one spot. I can't imagine a scenario where I'll take the smaller one traveling so I don't know what to do with that. Maybe my parents would like it. Anyway, exciting stuff.
You do need to be careful with them as they can cause damage. I have one and when I was using it regularly I found the lowest setting to be sufficient.
Dental people I’ve spoken to are relatively meh about them.
More difficult bullshit has piled on (the kind I generally leave vague because this is the internet) and of course it's the ongoing type, generates paperwork and followup tasks not to mention stress, and is the direct result of other people being absolute scumbags.
I'm working very hard to keep it together because I'd still like to live my stupid little life but am absolutely screaming inside.
Not looking for sympathy, just having a bit of a vent. I'm so tired.
Just installed the new showerhead I bought from Costco. Going to give it a test run in a minute but so far it seems alright. That's about as 'handyman' as I can get with this rented apartment so the testosterone is up. Job well done, Brad 🤝
Also, I just got an email from an Executive Casino Host from Treasure Island in Las Vegas. Apparently I warrant having my very own Executive Casino Host now which means I'll likely get comps if I go back there and book through her. I have mixed feelings about this.
I got the Petcircle refund. Between the voucher and the refund that also comped me for the bag I didn't get from Petcircle. Note to self, leave an online record when buying things.
I should have emailed about Miss Melbcat's Wednesday pickup earlier today, will do that now. I wasted most of today just kind of struggling before doing a few light garden chores. But I'm chipping away at everything.
I think I need a Mondayitis cure today. A tall stack of pancakes smothered with honey, piled with cream, and with a farm-fresh cherry on top please. Also a triple-strength iced coffee, made with cream and icecream, with vanilla, caramel and hazelnut syrups.
I've just realized it's the Foo Fighters gig I can hear and not some random Monday night house party. Almost tempted to try and get a ticket to Wednesdays gig.
I'm down the road in North Fitzroy! My neighbor just knocked on the door of the person living underneath her and told him to turn it down not realizing it was a concert 😂
I would get some pictures depicting landscapes and nature, these can be an escape to look at and it's good to have pics of nature for your health. And then some pictures of what interests you and what you like.
First, measure the space where you want to put the art. This could be one big pic or several small pics. Your choice. Make purchase(s) as per your preferences and the space available. Given the huge white space in the photo - my preference would be for 3 smaller pieces, but you do you. Maybe one medium size and two smaller ones. This is def your choice and preference. If the sun shines directly on that wall, don't buy prints as the reds will fade fairly quickly.
There are art shops like the Picture Gallery. Also markets like Ceres/Fairfield often have booths for local artists to sell their creations. Also the Saturday Rose St art market in Fitzroy. With xmas coming up, every artist in Melb is looking to downsize their stash of finished works at a profit. Check out opshops like the Brotherhood or Vinnies for cheaper options. Some surprising gems can turn up there. This can be a fun thing to do on a weekend.
You will also need :
The actual piece(s) of art.
A way to attach/hang the art. Do you want this (or is it required) to be removable when you move out? I think the rules have changed recently for rental properties, and you no longer have to erase any signs that you've hung a picture. So you can consider nailing a picture hook(s) to the wall, and are not limited to those removable stickytape backed hooks that fall off if the temperature goes over 30. Be aware that using double sided tape can remove paint from the drywall, which will need to be rectified when leaving. Attachment/hanging will depend a bit on how heavy/large the piece is - Bunnings DIY online may help.
A piece of news/brown/wrapping paper (cheap xmas paper is everywhere rn) cut to the size of each art piece. Some painters tape or masking tape cut into small sections.
A tape measure of some sort and a pencil.
Position cutout(s) on the wall using the painters tape until you get an arrangement you like. Use pencil to mark where the corners should be, and the top of the item. Use the tape measure to find out how far down from the top mark you'll need to put the attachment point. Fix that to the wall. Hang art. Check the corners line up with pencil marks then erase the pencil marks with a small piece of fresh bread or a regular eraser. Job done.
There can be of course a fair bit more to it than this summary - consult youtube for one zillion how to do it videos. Some of them are even accurate.
Thank you heaps for this!! I might head to one of the markets this weekend to snag some nice n cheap art. Obviously this is down to personal preference, but do you know what alignments would look nice? For ex, say I have two posters - I might do a side by side. Or if it's 3 medium sized ones then I could put them up diagonally? Where do I find more inspo...
On the picture hook, won't that still leave some damage behind or is that ok to leave as is?
You need colour. Something bright and vibrant. A pot plant might help too if you get enough light.
hang some white Christmas lights behind the bed head too for some softer light when required.
From family experience I can attest that the actual, real ones are a PITA as well. Despite showing them proof from the bank and police of the account being hacked...
More practice on a cheap sketchpad with a greylead to just not care about ruining or wasting it and use it up... Doing eye proportions by age. Ghosteen album playing tells me I've been working for 30 minutes.
ergonomics ramble
I'm noticing my weird bed adapted setup is actually really awkward for a number of reasons. Of course when I'm on my side my hip and side inhibit my arm. But its even when sitting fully up and putting the sketchbook on the lap table.
The edge of the sketchbook is catching on my hand as I move it because it's so small, it's centred because of the legs so I'm twisting to bring my right hand over, and the rest intended for a computer mouse is catching the edge of my hand too. I'm not supported enough at my back so I'm doing a held situp to get my arm to the paper. The legs make it a pain to move it and get up for a drink. Maybe having the easel and stacking more pillows will help.
Shopping for cheap art and am confused what sort of print to go for. Mostly thinking to order from Redbubble. Do I get the art board print and place them diagonally? I have about 10 different designs in my cart and will narrow it down later. Most of them are small sized (i.e. ranges between 12-20cm x 15-25cm ish). Or should I get canvas / canvas mounted prints?
