I was expecting not to receive my full pay rise this financial year regardless of meeting my performance plan because I haven't been in this particular role for the full financial year.. but I just got an email saying congratulations and that my pay rise is coming through on the next pay run along with backpay from July 1! Yay!!
It's still technically a pay cut when looking at the cost of living/inflation increases but let's try not to dwell.. nobody is getting raises to meet those increases unless they're changing jobs. It's still progression! ...yay!
Windows are being replaced with double glaze today, at 7.30am.
Also have a combination of medicine issues with a lil bit of food poisoning. Makes for my first sickday 🤦♀️
On the brightside: i can call workforce today to remove the hold on my payment. Apparently not going to the employment training for the last two days of it last week (bc I gained FT employment) means I'm a bad dole bludger and must be punished with even more poverty ugh 🙄
That's awesome, they make such a big difference. Fingers crossed the installation goes smoothly. Can't wait to get some for our place in ... 5-10 years, probably
Had an MRI this morning, first time. I knew it was going to be an uncomfortable experience but I wasn't expecting to feel completely stoned afterwards. Had to sit in the car for 20 minutes before I felt capable of driving home and even now I still feel a bit spacey. Might have a nap.
Jaysus, didn't they tell you to have someone come pick you up or drive you home? Not very responsible of the MRI provider I think. And bloody dangerous if you are going to be driving.
Another unseasonably warm morning, bringing with it both pleasure at the temperature and a sense of existential dread at the larger meaning of it all. I plan to work out my inner angst by raining destruction upon the leaf-curl ridden nectarine tree that's never produced any fruit, and the gall wasp ridden lemon tree that is little more than a twig with leaves that constantly surprises me by the fact that it somehow manages to still be alive.
Unfortunately leaf curl is inevitable and can only be managed by spraying. If this isn’t a preference yeah I agree time to get rid of the tree and plant something more robust. As for the lemon tree, my recommendation is to ignore any and all advice that says to cut off the galls. Spent a few years cutting off galls from my lemon tree, and the poor thing could never recover because it was getting cut back too much. Left it totally alone for a couple of years, just fertilised, and it is now lush and heaving with fruit. It is also full of galls but that seems to have zero impact on its fruit producing ability. There is enough tree for both me and the wasps to share.
Leaf curl is nasty. I've had good results from Bordeaux mixture - which is copper sulfate based. My lemon saplings have had all their leaves chewed off by something, so I have moved the pots and sprayed them with soapy water. Will hose them off tonight if it hasn't rained by then.
The prevailing theory for the use of eyepatches, in the case of piracy on the high seas and maritime combat, is that they will help preserve your “dark adapted vision”.
In such cases where you need to transition belowdecks you can maintain combat effectiveness in low light conditions.
I am one of those people who hate chasing up money even though I have been owed it. The person I was dealing with is nice but they haven't paid me for some work I did, so do you think a simple "Hey, how's it going? I was wondering if you had a chance to talk to payroll/admin regarding the payment for [event] we discussed?" would be fine?
Yep it's on them to feel bad about them not paying you, not you. That's a very reasonable email. Can't imagine how you could word it any nicer or gentler.
I freaking HATE when people use my full name when my email, contact details and profile are all my short name.
Think calling someone Benjamin when their email signature and address are both just Ben.
Its condescending as shit, and like some sort of power play or something.
I feel so bad when I'm emailing people who don't sign off but they have a name that can be shortened. Like a Joshua or something. I don't want to seem rude by saying Josh, but I also know people who don't like the long version of their name (I hate the short version of my name and I have another nickname that is popular with people who have the same name as me).
I kind of have an opposite feeling to this, I have a long first name that is frequently shortened, and I get terribly annoyed when I give it to people and they go straight in with "hey banana" instead of "hey bananafungus" like we're old pals.
I give people at work the option, "Hey you dont have to be Samuel if you dont want to, you can just be Sam" so I know their preferred name by their signature.
Look. It's a limited edition. One of things where the food scientist goes 'hey, that's a good idea" and then it mysteriously goes missing from the shelves a few weeks later.
Having been to Japan several times with their sakura flavoured things and sakura petals as garnish. I approve. Though not with that ghastly colour combination and that very chewy off tasting bolted coriander leaf.
Decided to do a hard reset (basically don't sleep, not even a nap after your last shift) after night shift to get it out of the way, and holy hell am I being reminded why I don't do it this way. I think I can hear and smell colours at this point! Just keep having to remind myself doing it this way means more holiday hours.
Grocery shopping done, two boxes of stuff dropped off at the op shop, cardboard boxes collected and first load of washing in. \0/.
Was going to say on to the next task, but Sammi has jumped jumped onto my lap and has made it plain it's snuggle time. Eh well, don't mind having a breather.
Unfortunately can't get lunch with Sammi in my lap. 😂.
She's retired to the other couch for her afternoon nap and I've flopped on the bed after doing more stuff. I thought Zooks was going to join me, but she's evidently got Important Cat Business to do.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah tomorrow the carpenter is coming to size up and measure and scurry away to build our massive wraparound built in bookcase with cupboards and a space on top for the felines to reign supreme. We're calling it Catmandu. Not only will boxes upon boxes of books finally be back on shelves, but the cupboards give us space for servingware, which means we can juggle some small appliances and cheesemaking apparatus to free up space in the kitchen for the dishwasher and end His Lordship's never-ending handwashing nightmare. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
As someone who rollerbladed more than walked as a kid, and has played ice hockey for over 10 years, I have found a massive flaw.... namely in that pants these days are FAR TOO NARROW. How the fuck are my tree-trunk legs supposed to get into these skinny jeans?
I used to shop at particular stores... ahem mostly gothic, but they've all pretty much disappeared throughout the city. So I've resorted to buying stuff on Etsy and yeah, apparently people that are buying them have legs that resemble twiggy sticks. Even if I get slightly larger waist sizes and just chuck on a belt it doesn't work.
Okay, workforce were great to speak to, super helpful. They removed the hold so that is good!
C-link have also sorted out partner's payment so that's fantastic!!
Weirdly, the RE have not responded at all to my email regarding late rent. I dont know what to think about that; but with my and my partner's c-link sorted, my first pay coming on Wednesday from the job, we might actually be able to pay it in full by the end of the week. Just the no response from the RE is a bit odd... ehhhh
We ate like pirates tonight. No cutlery necessary with cherry tomatoes, qukes, twiggy sticks, crackers, dips, olives, gherkins. We were savages. Yo ho ho.
Asked for a quote to replace thermocouples on my stove from a gasfitter and he actually recommended replacing with induction instead. Costs of parts are way up apparently.
That's pretty good of that gasfitter to give you an honest recommendation. Looks like the tide is turning (although I have a very emotional connection to using a gas stove).
So, bros wedding coming up this w/e which I'm excited about.
But it has been dropped on me I'm going to a rehearsal on thursday (I'm not doing anything at the wedding), going out for dins with brides' extended fam friday, and looking after their cat for 10 days apparently from the day after their wedding. It's all good but I've heard all of that second hand and it keeps changing which I'm not impressed about.
Like I understand it's a massive day / moment and it's stressful but this sort of stuff should be communicated not within the week of it happening.
Between shit sleep and it being my final night of work before my mini break, I am climbing the walls so bad! I've just spent the night spinning in my chair, watching five seconds of various films and shows, and munching my way through every little snack I have in boredom. I will be sprinting out that door like an escaped convict in a few hours.
Exercises completed. Excited because I ordered Throw Throw Burrito to go with Throw Throw Avocado and it's coming today supposedly. These are the perfect games for my family! I am also experiencing a new thing at the moment: after all these years of wondering about it, I'm being taught to play chess by the Elder Minipeeler. It's pretty cool. My boy isn't too bad at it, and one of his friends has made it through to the state championships in his age group!
And now for something completely different.. you've heard of snakes on a plane so get ready for..
I took a discrete pic when he wasn't looking (he is at work after all) but I never see a dog on the bus and it made me SO EXCITED (in other words I just smiled bigly!) Have a great day everyone!
I freaking LOVE Throw Throw Avocado/Burrito. I was skeptical, but playing it with a friend last year was honestly one of the best times I'd had in so long and I wish I had more people to play it with! It's so fun!
Bacon and eggs for me please. Miss Meow would like some tuna, served on a gold plate. Mr Woof has requested you give me extra so that he can have my leftovers.
Something's definitely in the air, smells a bit off and headachey inside my friend's place. It IS horrifically dusty in this house anyway due to all the renovation works and piles of boxes everywhere, but there's another element to it tonight.
Luckily it's my last night here and it's delightfully warm, so it's been an opportune time for a rare cleanout/self care. Most of the place has gotten an airing and a vacuum and even (gasp) a mop. Gave the kitchen and various surfaces a good clean, washed various blankets and clothes, had a nice shower and chamomile tea, applied some heavenly body oil I got as a sample and did a session on the shakti mat & pillow, all I'm missing now is a live love laugh poster.
Put their itty bitty air purifier on, just waiting for the dryer to finish another round now and I'll probably be out like a light soon while desperately trying to finish this giant book (Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese) by tomorrow...
Did a bit of packing today too and the poor cat must've sensed it, she was being particularly needy and attention seeking today. 😿
I think it might have been the twiggy sticks but fuck I'm letting them rip and little dog's taking the rap. I'll repay him in chips later on. He keeps licking the air. Lol
I am pleased to report I do not in fact have what you did. After last night's meds and the healing honey and water drink and a dead, deep sleep I feel much better today. That coughing does not sound good :(
Doc said Tinyest just has a viral respiratory thing. Not the same one he started with, it'll be a new one. Same symptoms. We just appear to still be sick, when really we're sick with a new thing already. insane!
Day 14, here. Though days 3 and 4 were so mild I went to work. I wonder whether getting over it might have been quicker if I hadn't rushed back in?
Am back at the office now, trying to leave the work area for every coughing spell. Mostly succeeding, too. The coughing hasn't gone away, but is right down. Maybe I'm finally getting on top of it? Maybe it's the pseudoephedrine?
Melbcat is feasting on a pumpkin baby food and springwater tuna snack. At least all the extra wet food is keeping her well hydrated and her bowels going.
Being creative is really hard. I’ve stalled on something I was drawing and constantly feel burned out. So many good ideas but sputtering empty tank noises
Thready little carrots have been coming up for the past few days, I can’t believe it. I was expecting them to be finicky. I’ve definitely sown them a bit too close together.
Ah yes office temperature settings. Must meet those energy use targets. When it’s winter and 16 out side then it’s 23 inside, but when it’s actually 23 out side they need to make it 16 inside.
Lunch/dinner - long beans with vegan mince and one of my favourite asian condiments ever, "olive vegetable" - based off a recipe I've been wanting to try for ages. Maybe the mince/bean ratio is a bit off but it's delish nevertheless. The last dish I'll cook in my friend's wok and their nice hot burner. I'm kinda looking forward to going home now tbh, as much as it's been heavenly with the cat.
@the_procrastinata I nearly screamed in delight at last week's episode of OMITB
spoilers...
and totally see your point about Theobel!!! Oh my god she learned ASL and Theo is soooo cute in those glasses and I completely agree about Tobert being totally sus. I'm so glad they didn't boot Theo like they did Oscar.
A bit of a downer, but I can’t stop thinking of that poor man in Geelong walking his dog.
I was driving home last night after dropping a friend off and drove past one of our local parks and thought how nice it was to see people out late walking their dogs.
Depends. We have three cats, it was honestly worth more to us to chuck the X amount per month we would have paid in insurance into a savings account instead. We got 2k stashed in there atm (and this is with a cat with an ongoing renal condition), unlike insurance it covers EVERYTHING
But if you have a large dog and can get one that covers joint problems, I can see the worth.
