Yesterday I walked 10 minutes around my house because my watch wanted me to. Today I half jogged and half walked because I wanted to. It's a big deal for me because I suffer from vertigo and low blood pressure and weird shit happens to my ears.
I usually do a lot of walking and yoga to keep fit anyway but I need intensity movements if I'm gonna give up smoking. @[email protected] you have inspired me.
Hey that's awesome! From my experience exercises really helped with giving up smoking. That vertigo and blood pressure issue is a bit of a worry.. have you got a good GP you can talk to about finding more intense exercise that won't upset the apple cart?
My low blood pressure I manage with diet (red meat, pulses etc). Vertigo has more to do with my inner ear and the fact that my eyes are different strengths (one is long sighted the other is short sighted). What I found is dancing helps a lot because I don't have to get up and down. I just need to increase the amount I do. Thanks again for your posts because I genuinely get inspiration from you. You are a champion. ♥
It's been getting kinda scary on the trains recently, even for me. Every single train I've been on in the last few months has had someone being aggressive on it. Coming back from Albury there were 3 people all very much off their faces screaming at nothing and punching the air, a few days ago there was some dude screaming at me for some reason about Elon Musk AIs and that I kill Europeans because Germany was right. Today there was some lady absolutely screaming her head off at anyone that moved, and apparently I look brave enough to save people so people started standing behind me for I presume protection, which I don't mind, but that did mean I got turned into a target. A few weeks ago I was abused by a junkie looking dude at Southern cross for no apparent reason. I'm not really sure what I specifically do that always brings me trouble, I try to just mind my own business and not pay much attention
Got the sad news from my landlord that they're going to have to sell this house. They just bought it last year and have been lovely. They really like us as tenants so I know that it's not what they want to do.
My neighbour opposite just came over and gave me some of his first harvest of broad beans. So young and fresh they don't need to be skinned. Marvellous!
Ugh, so good! What's your favourite way of cooking them? (I presume even baby broad beans shouldn't be eaten raw...) I love them in a salad or just quickly sautéed in a good olive oil with some garlic.
When they're this young and sweet, then raw is fine! I do toss them in a vinaigrette sometimes when they're really young. Saute in oil & garlic sounds damn yum though! Must try that. This lot though I stirred into the ramen I was preparing anyway. That had noodles, some good stock, sliced salsicci sausages (try saying that really fast!) and broccoli florets and sliced capsicum and onion. The beans went really well with it.
Good luck! I understand how nervewracking it is. Not autism but for ADHD. I think having my school reports with me as well as mentioning my family stuff (my cousin has autism and family members most likely have ADHD even though they deny it) really helped.
struggling with emotional regulation today. The fact that I'm getting hit with a slew of bullshit (like, empirically proven bullshit, not coloured perception) is not fucking helping
PANIK: The very first record my client reviewed threw up a discrepancy in my magical SQL aggregate code output compared to a manual aggregate, where I thought did everything right. Cue significant embarrassment at meeting.
KALM: I quickly realised the pattern of errors and learned something new about UNION (it removes duplicate rows - I'd included the primary ID for two tabled but not two others so if all the other attributes were the same they were excluded, d'oh).
Phew. Relieved that it was an understandable error at my level. Still rockin' it. 😎
sweats nervously i-i'm not an IT person, I just randomly shoehorn in solutions and half learn SQL instead of python because I can't be bothered doing manual analyses yet also am too lazy to actually program butthanks
I'm in the LAX Qantas business lounge with the fancy people! There's a free buffet and bar. I got some warm churros and they have serve-yourself fountain drinks with motherfuckin LEMONADE WOOO
Boarding doesn't start for another 2 hours so imma just chill in here 😎
Tough but I think it's fair.. I had 3 pink lemonades with breakfast, one last free refill of Orangeade before I left Vegas which I drank while I drove, we stopped for lunch at IHOP half way to LAX where I had a lemonade and now I am sipping my second in the lounge. I also got some spring rolls!
Anyway, I am on strictly water once I'm home until I make my lemonade company because I'll need to sample for quality control.
Edit: photo
Omg I just realised I can fill my travel cup with lemonade for the flight!! Muahahahaha
I don't know if I'm going to stay in this role. My 2IC is "besties" with my line manager and is a rude, arrogant prick. Even the rest of the team have noticed how he speaks to me. Everytime I bring it up with my line manager, he makes excuses for him.
On Friday he said "If I wanted to get rid of you I could. There's people I could talk to that could get rid of you. But I don't".
Haven't spoken to the line manager yet, and am honestly thinking of not bothering and just looking for another job.
Great idea actually. I'll be recording any 1 on 1's moving forward. Shame it's playing out this way, this place seemed great until the red flags started popping up. Even if it turns to shit I'll stick it out till my savings account is nice and healthy then skedadle.
Had another thought which may be quite inaccurate, but is this toxic little nong running something not quite kosher with the line manager? Like fraud, or do you think he's just powertripping? Might be worthwhile whistleblowing this to the next rung up above the line manager. Particularly if you have recordings. Doing so could blow up in your face, but the really senior management probably needs to know if these two are sabotaging their department/area of responsibility. Hiring staff is expensive, so I can't think of any rational scenario where this sort of conduct is acceptable, or even legal. Cos it sounds like the nong is pretending to a degree of authority that he just doesn't possess. Is HR aware of this situation?
What happened is that the last 2 people in my role were complete fuckups. They basically ignored their job and my 2ic had to step in and take up a lot of the responsibility as well as trying to do his job.
It really hurt the team and they got fired when everything came out. So my line manager was the one to come in and clean everything up and "save" the team. Somewhere along the line, my line manager and 2ic became besties. My 2ic is incredibly rude and arrogant. I have one team member who's ready to quit if he isn't treated better.
When I brought it up to my line manager, he turned it around and tried to make it my fault. "It's bad leadership". As if I created this monster.
I'm in a corner. If I say something to my line manager, and he goes and blabs to my 2ic it'll just make my life worse than it already is. So the best I can do is shut up and try to deal with it.
I'm going to start putting out resumes this week and see what's out there. Everyone else is really cool and the job itself is great. It's a shame these dipshits are making it a shitshow.
You can thank Elizabeth Gaskell for that one. Mr Gibson (the main characters Dad and county doctor) in Wives and Daughters often has some very funny outbursts that make very modern me giggle. My favourite is when he intercepts a love letter for his daughter from one of his student doctors and he writes back a doctors script that basically says "fuck off buddy boy".
So a person (or people) have been tailgating residents in my building to get in and steal mail. They have also been ringing random doorbells to convince residents to buzz open the front door.
When one of our "doorbells" goes off it's stupid loud, as in I can hear other neighbours bells. Anyway, one of the randoms came back and was just spam ringing. So I walked over to my intercom and told them to "give it a fucking rest bro" lol
Nope, it's a smaller apartment building; no security people. Just doors that require a keyring pass thingy to scan, unlocks the doors. Or residents can use their intercoms to open the buildings front door.
We use the FB group page for alerts, as it's a conbinations of the owner-occupiers (who have access to the security camera's footage), and resident renters like myself.
The police are already aware of the thefts and also have access to our camera footage. It's just bothersome that they got in once via social engineering + spam ringing our intercoms, that they keep coming back and trying again. I'm hoping me having a lil yell at them has deterred them somewhat, though I doubt it.
Must have a wee fire under my butt… Changed the shower head yesterday, changed over the little name plates that’s few were all scratched up from my bike stack earlier the year and have been semi-spring cleaning in general.
same going on at our place. actually doing some genuine spring cleaning, booked someone to take some rubbish away, given a bunch of old furniture etc away. very cathartic.
Rolled in with some satisfaction and sense of achievement. Funny how much of a struggle it can be to do things and then when you finally get to them it’s always like, why didn’t I do this before?
I have a consultation with my wedding florist today and I honestly don't know what I want so am terrified. This is what the professionals are for, right?
I had a wedding with no flowers, it is definitely possible. I mean, the marriage didn't last, but I'm sure the lack of flowers at the wedding had nothing to do with that 🤣
A wedding must have flow. As has been widely quoted, the spice must flow. Therefore a wedding is spice. And needs to have rice. As well as sugar and everything nice. And Chemical X.
This is my hope. I have a vague colour scheme and they have worked at my reception venue multiple times so I'm hoping just to copy some other more inspired couple 😆
Mentions of dead pets and just depresso posting. It's not super triggering, but I thought I'd hide it just in case.
God I don't want to go to work. But I have to. I just hope my boss sends me home. My chest feels super heavy, I hate this. Gonna try and keep my depressed postings to a minimum not to be a bringer of sadness. And what sucks even more with the benefits of ADHD, one of them is just forgetting people exist. Like it won't occur to me that I have a Dad until someone mentions him or their Dad and I'll be like "oh I haven't spoken to him recently" (I did last night, he was apologetic). It's even worse when people or animals pass away, like my Grandpa passed in 2019 and I'll forget about him until I remember and then I have to go through the grieving process again.
Update: went to work and started bawling. He told me to go home. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. But I'm just going to play Starfield and hug my cats.
Okay so editing a post on mobile that has spoilers wrecks the coding. Interesting.
I was utterly devastated when we had to put down our dog for lymphoma. I was a wreck. Three years on I still tear up when I think about losing him (even right note writing this). I have to think of the joy he brought me and how that love and joy outweighs the pain of losing him. It’s the only thing that vaguely helps. Sending you hugs and care.
He mentioned that he appreciated me coming into work but yeah he offered to either work from home or take today off. So I went with taking today off. I think tomorrow I'll work from home.
Certainly not fun times indeed. Thank you very much for all your love. I really appreciate it. Playing Starfield is taking my mind off of things, but funnily enough I got food in the game called Chocolate Labs, and man... (For context my dog is/was a chocolate lab).
If I was to go on MKR with my bestie I wouldn't be saying "I'm gonna get all 10s or my food is better than this slop" I'd be more "I hope it's edible or I hope I don't poison yous". If you set the bar low you don't disappoint yourself. Hahaha.
Woke up from a really yucky dream in which I was running late to a final high school exam that was going to determine my whole life... Everyone at home was shaming me hard, and I couldn't decide whether it was still worth trying to make a dash for the "late intake". I called a fancy hotline that used a projector in my phone to cast a 3D hologram map in front of me, showing that no matter which route I took I'd be late. (And also cheerfully reminding me that the best way to get to an exam on time is to leave earlier! And take it seriously.)
I decided to RUN there instead, and was overwhelmingly relieved when I saw a bunch of people lined up at school including my primary school bully (?!); so I wasn't the only one who was a failure, I was part of a normal group ... but when we were allowed in (and of course had to complete the exam in the given time, 15% less than if we'd arrived on time) I realised I was so flustered I couldn't work out the answers to most of the questions and was bordering on a panic attack...
Then I woke up to the cat's routine morning screams to get me out of bed and serving her various needs. I HATE school dreams.
One of my worst ones from a while back when I was having nightmares more regularly involved my adult self being punished for submitting things late and having to sit in a hall with other students for detention. Then I stood up almost in tears with a sudden epiphany - I have two degrees and a full time job, why am I still here??!! And I remember fighting to escape.
High school really shouldn't be the cause of so much background trauma for such a wide range of people...
I dreamt about being on a diet, then I dreamt about meeting Mr Seagoon's family, at least the middle aged lady family part, what's weird is I was young in the dream and now I'm older than they were in the dream.
Another restructure at work (public sector), a few hundred positions are going. It's both bad and good news. Bad, cause people are losing jobs, good is that they seem to be getting rid of deadwood that's been hanging around for a long time.
It's always better if the restructuring gets rid of the deadwood, seems like in redundancies past the useless dinosaurs have stayed on and they trim off the younger/newer hires.
Hmmm I started my role (first role!) in May and got a small pay bump as part of the annual remuneration review! About 6%. Didn't expect it but will gladly take it. Hopefully that means I'm doing something right
6% is a good pay rise! It matches CPI so means you are not going backwards. Many employers give pay rises less than CPI so to increase salary in real terms you would have to get promoted or move jobs.
trying to figure out if I've eaten something I cant tolerate, or if I've eaten something that was a bit off. The carrot was a bit soft last night is the only thing I can think of. Reckon this is gonna be a less than fun day.
Did my exercises this morning before I shunted the Minipeelers out the door for school. I thought, geez that was a bit of an effort.. then I remembered I did the core exercises before I went to bed last night 🤦🏼♀️No wonder it felt a little tougher than usual! Now lunch outside for the first time since summer ended.
Since my daughter has been home sick I have seen enough of The Inbetweeners that I care to. I thought Orange Is The New Black and Shameless was bad. Jfc.
I ask her to turn these off before her dad comes home. Hahaha.
I think of poor mr seagoon who has had to endure me watching and listening to lotr ad infinitum. Well, I am done with it, I have fully figured out the story and it's place in art and culture.
My online grocery order arrived, and apparently I ordered chicken breast chunks instead of whole pieces. My plan to grill them to slice for sandwich meat is obviously not going to work, but I'm thinking a nice chicken, leek & mushroom casserole is now on the cards.
I reached into my toiletry bag last night and my razor decided to take a slice of my finger. Luckily I stopped it before it took too much but urgh so annoying.
Farmers Market bougie tuna pate with quail egg centre was a hit with the cat, thanks @Taleya. She's been eating the gravy but leaving the "meat" of the cheap Dine shit that was in the house, so a pate texture worked out perfectly. The 6 pack of the Chicken collection (3x broth, 3x gravy) was on sale, let's see if she takes to those.
The local Coles had a rather limited selection, I might have a poke around elsewhere to see what else is offered. Most cats I've looked after dislike pate but this one vacuums it up.
There is so much that confuses me about this country... The Voice, the tax breaks, the constant bickering between polparties.
But the next thing that confuses me is the 1.7 billion dollar upgrade to that vic market thingy in the city, you know, the city? the place with drug addicts, homeless people, mentally sick people and the like?
surely 1.7 billion can go towards fixing that instead of upgrading a freaking market. but oh well. this is Melbourne, go danny boyyyy.
It was rezoned by the city council ( not dan ) as a tourist precinct a few years ago. 🤷♀️ What tourists and how much bloody coffee can a tourist drink? Of course now the people who live in the CBD have one less place to do household shopping.
The NAB one with the song where they try and cram too many words out of rhythm into a line or the telfast one with that lady singing all chipper are the ones that annoy me the most.
I know I'm way behind the curve, but just started playing Detroit: Become Human for the first time ever.
I've been flitting through games at the moment, not really able to settle (all the ones down loadable through my ps+ subscription), but this is actually great.
It feels like a sleepy summer day. The kind where you'd see a film protagonist napping under the shade of a tree, or having a picnic with macaroons after a bicycle ride.
It's a nice and buggy day today. We haven't had one of those for a while.
Saw a dragonfly in the suburbs for the first time in years.
Although I have a gripe about the 903 bus, which came and left 5 minutes before it was supposed to arrive at the stop. Would it kill the company to have them match up with the time schedule?
Would it kill the company to have them match up with the time schedule?
Based on years of being subject to the whims and fancies of Melbourne's public autobuses I have arrived at the belief that yes, indeed, there are basements of employees, quivering in the bowels of Collins Street as we speak, held hostage to a cold, metallic, fridge-sized switch at the PTV headquarters labeled "WARNING: Switching this on will initiate the running of a metropolitan public transport network befitting of the 21st century in which private contractors are genuinely held accountable to meaningful standards".
Does anyone have recommendations for couriers they use to buy second hand goods from interstate?
I’m looking to buy a device from Gumtree/Marketplace that can weigh up to 20kg and in a (relatively) decent sized box ~(70cmx40cmx40cm)
Looking for services (not necessary) they offer like:
either picking up from the person's house or they deliver it to a location
they can pack it for you
method of payment to the seller otherwise I'd have to trust the other party to ship it off
I tried looking into backloading but it seems like too much trouble for minimal savings. Looked at courier sites and wasn’t sure if I was doing it correctly but it was estimating ~$80 which is actually not too bad. Would much rather go off of recommendations.
Was recommended Couriers Please but it depends on the franchise
Not sure, but at work they use DHL. No need for seller to do anything, you can book and prepay and seller just needs to be available at pick up time. Don’t know if cost is reasonable but they seem to be reliable.
Fabulous gardeniing weather. I have so much to do out there it's hard to know what to do first. I'll have to go with the potter around and do whatever catches my attention approach, trying to plan what I "should" do will just lead to overwhelm and decision paralysis. 🌞🌻👨🌾
Pinpricks of pale light, holes in the nightsky,
Burning hot and bright, take wing and fly,
Between rotating quasars, shooting high-energy lasers,
Through nebula birthing, stars with planets orbiting.
The Universe is yours to witness and behold,
What lies beyond are mysteries untold, fold
Yourself down infinitesimally small,
And you'll see atoms that make us all.
Open your eyes wide, let in the pale light,
Pinpricks in the nightsky, burning bright.
Once again albums have disappeared from my itunes and media player. The only way I'm sure I used to actually own it was checking my last.fm play list. yup, I played fischerspooner hundreds of times
Okay. I'm trying to get into Deadloch and the jokes are okay but trying too hard sometimes, and that obnoxious Darwin detective is waaaay too overacted/contrived to strike the right satirical note. You need good actors to pull this off... Fisk and even Rosehaven were definitely better than this. I'll watch a bit more but I'm not impressed thus far :/
I'm near the end of episode 2 and care so little for these characters :( I really wanted the Kates to do better but I honestly think they peaked with their original Katering Show skits...
Meh. It feels sophomoric, and the timing keeps falling flat to me... it's not even in so-bad-it's-good territory or a particularly convincing pastiche of cozy murder mysteries...
I would like to support the Australian tv industry, but the shows are mostly, how do I say this … shit?
We’ve been spoiled but very high quality writing, acting, filming from the streamers, and I think the Australian industry has not kept up. I know budget is a factor, but I’m not expecting Marvel level effects here. I’m just talking about quality stories and execution.
Aussie shows , other than kids shows and the gardening show and rage , have been shit for decades. The show with best production values was Neighbours and that was only because it was made for overseas.
I was so disappointed by this show, I adore The Kate's but the Eddie character was not it at all. I'm curious if it's a script issue or an actor issue, but somewhere the wires got tangled. It really sucks because I think everyone else did a pretty slap up job for what it was, I'm definitely a Kate Box fan now.
I had high hopes at first, given the writers, but the Eddie character put me off. initially. But I stuck with it and actually enjoyed it. The story is really about Dulcie's journey. Back in the day Eddie would be the comedy foil, but she's great in the later episodes
Can also happen that the system is tracking correctly based on transactions, but when the picker gets there they find the item is damaged and therefore unsaleable, or wrong stock has been put in the location, or not there due to theft etc. very annoying though.
I work in retail and this stuff happens. No stock system if fool proof. It's most likely because they were down to one left and someone else purchased it a fraction before you finalised your order.
