This reminds me of a comic I saw a while ago where the BBEG was gloating that he could only be killed by the sword next to him that couldn't be pulled from the stone. The barbarian picks up the BBEG and swings him at the sword.
At the end it is revealed that only the chosen could wield the sword. No one ever mentions that the sword had to be released from the stone and Grog was the hero all along. Because to be a hero you have to be strong. Foolproof selection method.
it would be even funnier if it's a fighter with the barbarian archetype (pf2e) or 1 level of fighter and the rest of barbarian (dnd) so that their lore is someone who was trained to use a sword but couldnt, so started raging and getting stronger to use that hammer
Grog accidentally does something that makes them chosen mid-swing and the thing slides off like a catapult, knocking out several enemies and causing plenty of property damage.
Grog tries his hand, but feels bad when he rips the magical stone out of the ground, and cat get it back in. Grog smart enough to know he didn't do it right, only option is to travel the country side and find the real person who will free the sword, bringing it to them rather than the other way around. Grog so smart, this way better idea
