He's always been independent but caucuses with the Democrats.
You have a two-party system and Independents almost never get anywhere. Bernie is the exception in that regard. Consequently they have to work with one of the other two parties if they want to actually accomplish anything.
Independent since 1981, but he's unsuccessfully run in the Democratic primaries for President.

Sometimes yes. And the Democrats work against him if he gets popular.
Largely because he caucuses with them for things like who controls the senate, etc.
He's independent when the party screws him over, he's a Democrat when the party wants progressives to like them.

The guy is one of the best politicians of our lifetime. Always fighting for the people, genuinely. We coulda had so much in 2016 if not for the DNC.
