Yeah I had one with a non functional gas heater. They wouldn’t even remove it. Thankfully now not legal, but desperate people will accept shit sandwiches
It's T minus 2 days until my landlord can (and almost certainly will) issue a rent increase notice, and shit like this makes me feel I'm better off putting up with whatever they charge here...
If it wasn't for the fact my current place is a shithole and that I need to be closer to my parents, I would not be moving an inch in this current climate.
I'm SO sick of this Taylor Swift talk. Nothing against her, I like some of her stuff. But this "will she become president" and "OMG she's landed in Melbourne" is just so tedious. You know who else is here? The Blink 182 boys! But there's no need to bang on about it. Do people really not have anything else to talk about?
I'm more interested in hearing peoples thoughts on a their last coffee than I am their thoughts on a celebrity.
Social media i suspect. People feel like they have a connection with celebs these days. Its... disturbing. Especially the was some of them cultivate it.
It comes to taste probably. The artists you listed were quite unique and groundbreaking for their time. TS is a run of the mill pop singer that's not really different in a sea of other pop stars.
I expect it's because you're in the same city she's in. The level of Taylor Swift noise in Perth is quite manageable. We know she's in Australia, and we know she's not coming to Perth. There's probably more noise about Pink who is coming to town in a couple of weeks.
Taylor Swift will now talk about Melbourne’s coffee.
If she gets some places to lift their game I'm all for it.
Thats gotta be the worst thing about touring. Do you send an advanced scout to check out good coffee places for you? Or do you just take a punt each time you go to a new city.
We're all about the heat in Perth. I think yesterday was our 5th >40° degree day for February. Sunday is forecast to be our 6th.
No humidity to speak of, at least.
My last coffee was about 4 hours ago. Large cappuccino, extra strong, lite milk, no sugar. I didn't have to wait for a machine because there's TWO there. Paid by card. Anything else you want to know?
A family friend brought over a coffee machine yesterday. He wasn't using it and thought we'd like it. LIKE it‽ Was so excited for it when the kids sent me a pic of it on the bench.. grabbed some Grinders on the way home and OMG it's like drinking a coffee flavoured cloud!
Yeah, I was a coffee maker (the word "barista" wasn't around when I started) for around 11 or 12 years but always resisted getting a machine at home because cost but also I thought I'd end up being a bit of a wanker about it 😆
Oh man! I remember my mum giving my sibling and I the cheeseburger version when we were in a tight spot, and the single biggest thing I remember is the texture being both rock hard and soggy.
Went to a gig last night and it seems that young pomms are back in droves (you can tell by the accents and number of fades). Was packed. Normally the place is empty on a thurs.
Extremely popular music in the UK (drum and bass) but the scene here has sort of been struggling after the rona (for the smaller gigs). Hopefully it gives promoters a bit more confidence throwing smaller cheaper gigs and difference is made up with drink sales.
That's really good. Are you appliquing all the pieces on or a different method? Sorry I can't see very well at the moment because I've been crocheting this afternoon and my eyes are fucked now.
Anyone else resorting to running the heater in the morning? Im chucking on shorts and a t when i get up, but finding really I want a hoodie and trackies till 10:30/11. So Im just chucking on the heater for halfa. The solar mostly covers it anyway.
I put a beanie on yesterday morning with my shorts and T-shirt. This is how I regulate my warmth in summer. The mornings have been feeling a bit autumnal.
As I watch these lion dancers doing their thing, I can't help but wonder: What's the connection with China and Lions in the first place? Were Chinese importing lions from Africa thousands of years ago? Any why are Lions the symbol of England for that matter?
I'd have thought Tigers would have been a lot closer to China, at the very least.
Lions for England is an accretion of earlier arms of bits of land they owned at some point. Eg. Aquitaine. it’s built up the same way the ‘Union Jack’ is = St. Patrick, George & Andrew.
Smeg once posted about baits of mixed Borax and icing sugar. I put it in small tinfoil bowls where the cat can't get to them and it seems to be working quite well
I have a Mel and a Kim in my office. Occasionally those of us that are over 40 will attempt to sing this to them. They're younger, and look at us like we're old and senile.
After midnight, the air is silent,
The crickets chirp, the birds are quiet.
Hear the low hum of passing cars,
The beat and thrum of guitars in bars.
Occasionally a cry will break the night,
Or giggles will follow the sound of a light.
The sound of bottles being thrown away,
The bar downstairs is done for the day.
Come three in the morning, or even one,
The club's will close, they're all done;
The patrons will flood the street to phone,
A rideshare to drive them all the way home.
Ok I had to post this here after seeing it on the other site. For anyone who has wondered how they do the VFX for live sports broadcasts - ads on the field that seem to follow the camera around perfectly, on-screen graphics following players around, calculation of ball trajectories - this is a fantastic 11 minute video. You gotta check it out, I don't even care for sports and was mesmerised!
Tech is wild though. I cannot believe they managed to render an entire NHL game into Toy Story settings/characters - including the freaking commentators - LIVE, with only TWENTY seconds delay from the live broadcast.
Ugh, so glad it’s day off day… I’ve been slightly crook 1.5 days, had a wee bit of work drama one day, caught an Uber that smelt like upchuck the other day (man, the standards are non-existent these days), and what should have been an easy bike service with a few blingy bits has turned into a debacle of issues that makes it sound like I’ve been riding it til the wheels fall off.
Getting the fancy stuff in Australia is tough, and costs far too much. You really need to order online honestly. You can go to various markets and most will have a spot to buy from, but yeh you'll pay too much 🤷♂️
The Aldi smoked rainbow trout fillets are very nice. I'm not so fond of the truffle oil infused trout fillets, but the plain ones are lovely. I like their plain sardines in oil but these sell out fast. I don't like the sardies with horrid gloopy sauces that Aldi sells. If I want a gloopy sauce, I'll make it myself.
Preston market fishmongers have nice smoked cod fillets (not entirely sure it's really cod but definitely smoked) and I use these quite a lot. I would assume Vic market likewise would have a good range.
Most mediterranean grocers have baccala which is basically baconised white fish. Needs to be soaked to remove excessive salt but once soaked is nice in stirfries and fish pies etc. and just magic in an omelette or a rich tomato/garlic based fish stew (bouillabaise). Nice for pizza topping too.
I do get colesworth plain sardines in oil when I can't find any at Aldi - they are the cheapest. Also colesworth can be relied on for tinned crab meat (when I can't be bothered sourcing, cooking and picking fresh crab).
Most IGAs have John West stuff, including kippers, and sometimes other brands. Prices are higher but there's usually a good range.
NQR occasionally has tinned fish both plain and fancy and this is a good source for stocking up the larder when they have stock in.
If stocking up, I'd start with NQR, and then Preston market, and then Aldi, and then IGA and then, and only then, colesworth.
Fix intune compliance sync. Legit, why is intune complaining a firewall isnt enabled on an endpoint, yet the endpoint says firewall is enabled? Its dumb AF.
Also next time I log a ticket for Defender email filtering being rubbish, dont tell me its a "machine learning" issue. Defender sucks!
Feedback:
Azure Data Explorer is really impressive. It's expensive as hell, but somehow cheaper than Oracle (which I'm sure is their whole model). Kudos for Kusto.
https://aussie.zone/comment/6659142 Pet kibble continued: If it's getting baked hard and being extra dry, some people pre-soak their pet food to soften it.
Interesting. The reason I give him dry in the morning is because it's easier on the eyes and nose but if adding water means he enjoys it more I will just have to suck that up.
Word of caution: That can allow bacteria and mould on the surface of the kibble to grow so either make sure it's eaten immediately and remove the food if it isn't, or try to avoid soaking.
I gotta head into Richmond in a couple hours to get the car, then drive to the corner of the city near the Royal Melbourne to pick everyone up around 4pm, then hightail it out to the 'Rat.
Google Maps keeps directing me to the hellish Westgate and the inevitable shitshow with the newly flipped m80 intersection. Would it not be easier to take Ballarat Rd, or even Dynon Rd -> Princes Hwy? 🤔
I got a few scones from the food cupboard recently, so this afternoon I organised some jam and cream to have a fancy little afternoon tea. Heated up a scone, cut it in half and realised it was cheese and chives 🤣. It was still yummy, but not what I was planning or a good mix with jam and cream.
I'm pretty sure the other two I have are actual fruit scones so I will put the cream aside to have with them this weekend.
Sorry, I'm going again. John Stewart back at The Daily Show (really like the other new host too!). Trailers for new X-Men '97 and Invincible S2 pt 2. Tv got good again!
Verdict: Well... you know when you go to a take away or f & c shop and you order the chicken roll because it looks good on the board and you receive something in a plastic sleeve and you go "that's not fresh!" Yeah it's like that. Not good. Not bad. Just meh.
Would I get it again? Maybe if it was on the spesh.
