showerthoughts is a better unpopularopinion than unpopularopinion
The reactions to most posts are overwhelmingly negative and critical. Ironically, posts to c/unpopularopinion tend to argue that they agree with the post, and are consequently more supportive.

Square peg, round hole
If the whole “square peg, round hole” BS was a valid argument for anything, all doors we go through would have to be shaped exactly like our own profile as we pass them.

Tennis uses the imperial system of scoring
Tennis uses multiples of 15, but only up to 45, calls other points weird names, then closes a set, which has to be repeated at least 6 times for a separate scoring, with said scoring also needing to be repeated AT LEAST 3 more times, but can be dragged out ad infinitum.
Even table tennis has the decency of using a straight scoring system where 11 points wins a set and 2 sets wins the match.

Tourism/aliens visiting us would be equivalent to escapism/isekai
also, do aliens exist?
- probably when considering statistics
- would we ever see aliens?
- probably not when considering statistics

Murder doesn't cause death
Killing someone doesn't change whether or not they die, only when.
The only thing that determines whether or not someone will die is whether or not they were born. Therefore, the only cause of death is birth.
The only case in which murder changes the amount of people who will die is if a person who would've otherwise had children is killed. By preventing birth it prevents death. In other words, murder can only decrease the amount of people who will die or keep it the same, but never increase it.

NPR stations are the original federated model.
Different stations produce different shows and share them among each other. That’s federation, baby.

I'd consider buying a Fisker car if the software/firmware was open source
I wouldn't be as worried about them going out of business and me being stuck with half broken car software.

There are emotions I don't know how to express without my glasses on.
I emote with my glasses a lot. Slowly pulling them off in amazement, sarcastically looking over the top of the rims, etc. How do people who can actually see handle it?

The clockspeed of observation is 18.5 tredecillion Hz
The real shower thought was about movement across the highest speed we know of at the minimum distance we know of, so I divided Planck length by the speed of light.

People must have had really powerful leg muscles and glutes before the invention of the toilet/outhouse.
I had to squat over a urine covered toilet seat and had the titled thought...

Bakers are useful members of society. It makes sense that they exist. A society without bakers would not be more efficient.
People could all make their own breads, if they had more times, but it'd require more ovens working simultaneously instead of fewer big ovens. It would also take more time for humanity, collectively. And even if everyone had a big oven like those in bakeries, while they could make big stocks of bread for a long time, this would result in everyone eating bread of lesser quality because bread goes bad with time. Having a skilled minority cooking a lot of bread every day in big ovens is just better.
This is not an ode to capitalism or any specific economic system, socialist or communist systems can have bakers to, I guess, tho the ownership of bakeries and boss-employee relationship between them must be rethought or abolished in these cases. All I'm saying is, when thinking up a new and revolutionary economic system, one must always account for bakers.
And sure, robots could bake, maybe. But I don't think they should. Or rather, I think human-made bread and pastries should always exist, because they create variatons and originalities that are interesting. And if human-made bread becomes a luxury commodity and the common people only have access to robot bread, this'd be a tragedy, so better keep the djinni in a bottle and not let robots bake.

is humor allowed?
What if women could move their breasts like arms and could swim like that? That would be the real breaststroke

All applications should start in dark mode, and then offer you the option to move to light mode.
Title really, it's the first thing everybody looks for when they download something.

What if all the AI generated images were simply real pictures pulled from the past or future?
Maybe everything that’s been generated has actually occurred or will at some point!

Free speech as a guiding principle sounded so good when Reddit was created, and mostly it enabled neo-Nazis to recruit outside of Stormfront
Turns out there are plenty of things more worthy of fighting for than enabling fascists and terrorists to lure in vulnerable people and harass marginalized people

Missing the storm threads
And our resident meteorologist, Zebras! Heard the thunder and immediately wanted to get on to see if there was a thread about the weather... Gonna take a while to get used to lol
