What's the latest stuff you've bought that you almost instantly regretted buying?
  • Yeah. You do suck. Why? Because you just bought the damn thing and gave up on it when it wasn't as easy as guitar hero.

    Everyone that plays guitar went through the same shit you're experiencing now. The only difference between them and you is perseverance.

    Practice.

  • Jeff's magic money machine
  • I'd spend 100M in a month easily. Especially after I've bankrolled GrapheneOS, Ladybird and all my favourite FOSS projects. They also didn't say anything about charity which IMO isn't gifting. Once I feel like I've sufficiently contributed to society I'd buy a 50ft sailboat, pimp the shit out of it with solar and fuck off forever.

    With the billion I'd establish a fund that pays out monthly to any projects I deem worthy and funds all food banks in my local area indefinitely.

  • What opinions do you have that you consider (shallow && pedantic)?
  • Yeah its interesting how pizza means something different even between Naples and Rome which, in the grand scheme of things, are a stone's throw away from each other.

    I'm really not picky with pizza so long as there are no olives on it. Not a fan of olives.

  • What opinions do you have that you consider (shallow && pedantic)?
  • Canada in this case but close enough. Cornwall's right on the border.

    Cornwall pizza is my fav in the world. This is even after being to Naples and having a legit pizza there (which was excellent of course). I just love the thick crust, overabundance of toppings and a thick blanket of cheese baked until its crispy enough to hold in one hand and nothing slides off. The pizza is typically over an inch thick. In the range of 3-4 cm thick lol. One slice is typically enough to sate most appetites. Tasty stuff. Fork/knife use is not shunned lol

  • Alternative to GrapheneOS
  • I'm not here to troubleshoot this issue. I don't have the technical skill or understanding of this platform to do so.

    I'm sure I'm not the only one with a working banking app. We don't all use mainstream banks, right? There are options and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

    Thanks for insinuating I'm a liar though. That's nice.

    I'm on a Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS and a working banking app with no special fuckery because I genuinely don't know enough about android to deviate from what's offered in the stock Graphene experience other than using the FUTO keyboard and customizing basic settings just like everyone else.

  • Fellow Men, what are some compliments you would like to recieve?
  • Honestly, based on your comments here I'd say that this is a you problem by proxy; I'd bet that it's your dad that's done you such a disservice raising you that you now reject compliments from 50% of the population of earth. That's a problem for you.

    On the sexual side, if you can't see any positive in another man showing you any sort of attention in that way, that's a problem. Its not gay to receive a compliment, man. Just say thanks and move on with your day. EZ PZ.

  • How can everything be captured in simple data like people's exact voice noise?
  • Its funny that human perception seems to be anecdotally tied to double digit milliseconds when if you ask any drummer or guitar player about input latency they'll tell you that the absolute maximum round trip latency to be able to enjoy playing the instrument is in the range of 5ms.

    Only once latency dips under 5ms does it start feeling "right". Personally, I groan when I have to use anything over 3ms with my guitar as the second I hit high tempos the latency is unbearable.

    Below 3ms it gets very hard to say that you can feel a difference.16th notes at 250bpm with 5ms latency has you approaching 10% of the note separation time. It's 100% perceivable.

  • Why haven't Heilung and The Hu collaborated yet?
  • AFAIK, Heilung shouldn't be considered traditional music. Many elements of their music are borrowed from unrelated cultures. Throat singing for example is not a Scandinavian tradition. They also use Hindu instruments in their compositions. Heilung themselves don't even describe their music as traditional, yet they have some rabid fans that try to shoehorn their work into scandinavian tradition, muddying the historical waters for anyone unfamiliar with scandinavian tradition. Cool band, but yeah. Odd dynamic going on here.

    Still, I bet a collaboration would be cool.

    The Muscles of the Leg and Foot: 3D Anatomy Model

    So I've been having issues with my right ankle as I've been pursuing a marathon run for the first time at the end of this year. I went to physio, got professional recommendations and yeah, it was fine I guess but I felt like only one of the four exercises I was given was actually targeting the problem areas in any perceivable way.

    My run today left me with more diffuse pain again so I went looking online to see if I could figure out exactly what is going on and booooooy did I find the best thing since sliced bread. I now know exactly what motions are triggering the issues I'm having.

    On this page (https://www.innerbody.com/anatomy/muscular/leg-foot) select the "3D Rotate and Zoom" feature of the anatomical display. Zoom in and analyze the tendons and muscular structure in whatever problem areas you may have. Click on the individual parts of the leg to get the name of the structure and related info. Look up exercises for those particular structures on YouTube and with a bit of trial and error you'll likely hit on the exact problematic muscles/tendons you're struggling with. I certainly did. I have three exercises that target the exact problem area as well as providing complementary targeting to the other structures that support the problem area as well.

    I'm relieved to have this available to me now. There's so much free physio content on Youtube, the main problem was always pinpointing source of the issues. I feel like this resolves that issue in a major way for me, personally.

    Of course it goes without saying that YMMV and that professional help might be your best option regardless of this amazing resource. Trust your doctor, but it never hurts to do your own homework before spending the money on rehab.

  • I've run three halfs in the last year. Biggest thing for me is focusing on my stride in the second half. As your legs start to weaken, your stride will suffer which may leave you at risk of an awkward step that could have you dealing with rehab in the weeks after the run. For me personally, a single odd step (imagine going down stairs and thinking there's one more at the bottom when there's not) has sidelined my training for almost two months now. I can still run, but I can't push distance at all. It's to the point where I'm considering another couple weeks off even after a month with no running after the half.

    Keep your eyes on the upcoming terrain and make sure it doesn't surprise you.

  • Absolutely killer band. Their album "The Missing Link" is one of the most consistent and greatest albums ever written in my opinion. Craaaazy good. The track " Lost In The Ice" is an absolute masterpiece of musicianship and lyricism.

    Installing st: Fatal Error

    I'm very new to Linux. Currently tinkering with Nobara and wanted to install st. I was able to successfully install it last night but when I started attempting to patch it for customization purposes I think I messed something up. I had needed to remove st multiple times and re-install so I could start fresh and fix my errors. Now when I attempt to run make clean install I get a host of errors related to packages that are installed but can't seem to be found?

    ``` [astralpath@nobara-pc st]$ sudo make clean install [sudo] password for astralpath: rm -f st st.o x.o st-0.9.tar.gz c99 -I/usr/X11R6/include pkg-config --cflags fontconfig pkg-config --cflags freetype2 -DVERSION=\"0.9\" -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=600 -O1 -c st.c Package fontconfig was not found in the pkg-config search path.     ```
    I'm not sure why these issues are occurring now. Could someone help point me in the right direction to troubleshoot? I'm really lost on how to proceed even though the error output seems to be giving me some pretty explicit instructions.
    Thanks in advance :)--
    Are there mouse skates for using a mouse without a mousepad?
    I've had zero luck finding any info on this. Maybe my search skills are bad :/
    What I'm looking for are mouse skates that create the feel of a mouse on a mouse pad. All the skates I'm seeing are for ultra low friction when used on a mouse pad. Basically, I want to get rid of the need for a mouse pad on my desk for aesthetic and practical reasons and am hoping that someone knows about a set of mouse skates that would facilitate this.
    Bad Company 2: Project Rome - Unable to Log In?
    Hey folks, just wondering if any of you out there are playing BFBC2 via the Project Rome servers and are having issues logging in.
    I was able to play on the day I installed the feature but ever since I haven't been able to log into Project Rome in-game to play online.
    Anyone else having similar issues? I'm wondering if this is just a me thing...
    Can't get a .csv of my subscriptions from Youtube
    After following the instructions provided by NewPipe to download my subscriptions list for import, I get a .zip file with nothing but an HTML file within. No data related to subscriptions at all. If I opt to download an export containing all my Youtube data, then I get a couple of folders for History and another data subset but nothing for subscriptions.
    I thought at first this may have been an issue related to the private status of my subscriptions list on my Youtube account, but even after toggling privacy off for my subs, I still cannot get a .zip from Youtube containing a .csv of my subscriptions.
    Has anyone else had this issue?
    Grindelwald, Switzerland - Looking towards the Eiger and Kleine Scheidegg
    On vacation last fall we ended up hiking in the Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald area. Took this pic on my Samsung A51 after a quick lunch. Other than the A51's limited auto PP, there are no edits or adjustments to this photo. Not bad for a cheap phone, eh?
    With how decent the browser UI is, what benefits are there by accessing Lemmy via an app?
    Just curious. I'm hearing that a lot of people are using various apps with Lemmy but I'm having such a good experience with the browser version that I don't understand the point of adding an additional layer via an app in between my access to the service. I'd love to hear people's opinions about the pros and/or cons to using an app vs. the browser. [EDIT] I should specify that 90% of my usage is on my phone.
