Mistaking "vegetarian" for "harmless pacifist" has been the last mistake of many would-be predators.
Like practically all herbivores, especially large ones, hippos are more than happy to eat meat whenever they can opportunistically do so, and are actually much more likely to do so than other large herbivores because of how effective they are at killing other animals. They've been known to kill and eat animals as large as wildebeest and zebras.
- So they really aren’t herbivores?
Aren't they practically marsh cows?

pretty sure the most dangerous animal in the world is far and away the mosquito
- I'd still rank them second, after humans.
  
  Far more humans have died do mosquitos than in all wars combined. So I'd say they outranks us with ease.
- People associate deadliness with the capability of violent behavior ending in gory results. Find a one ton mosquito, people will cry danger.
  
  I feel like that could apply to a lot of things.
