This is a big one, thank you to all our new contributors! 🥳 Jerboa is still very much an alpha-level app, but its wonderful to see its pace accelerating rapidly thanks to others working hard to mak...
Its no probs. This one was all volunteer contributions by skilled android developers who just want to make the fediverse better. I'm extremely grateful to all of them.
It is extremely impressive how much money these large tech companies throw at an app and it turns out to be shitty as fuck. I wonder what bullshit features they pack in to make it like that.
You have to check "Show content for collapsed comments". The default is actually Apollo/ Alien Blue style. Also I would recommend unchecking "show action bar for comments" so the vote buttons are hidden until the comment is long pressed.
That decision to lay a solid foundation for an Android app really bearing fruit right now. Thanks for all the hard work and thanks to all the new contributors.
I've been incredibly impressed at how fast the Jerboa team is working to catch up with the influx of new users and issues. Massive thanks for all the work getting done!
Only thing missing for now is the ability to sort comments in posts (as in new/popular/best,etc) like in the browser version, which has been sorely missing for the main community of one of my instances. Any info on when is that going to be implemented?
The login feature is not really intuitive. When not logged in and pressing on any of the icons below, instead of displaying a "login first" notification, bring the user to the login screen?
Possibility to collapse and expand comment threads (as @[email protected] pointed out this already works by touching the comment)
When I click on a link and it for example opens an image, allow me to press the Android back button to go back to the discussion. Right now the only option is to press the back arrow hovering over the image.
If there's a better place to post these requests let me know and I'll post it there
Comment threads are collapsible afaik, just touch and hold onea comment and release again. Admittedly there are no visual hints that this is possible, there a tutorial or something like that might help.
Same, I did have to remove the older version installed via f-droid before installation of the apk from GitHub would succeed though. That was when I updated from 0.0.31 to 0.0.32.
Updating to 0.0.33 then worked without uninstalling anything. Liking it so far!
The one feature I desperately want that Relay For Reddit has was a "Clear Seen Posts" button. You tapped it and it removed every post that I'd already viewed. There was another option to auto mark posts as "seen" if you just scrolled past them. I'd love for Jerboa to add that.
I just downloaded the APK from GitHub and it let me update it from the .32 version I installed via Izzyondroid - from the limited knowledge I have it's because the fingerprint of the apps are the same.
Does this mean it won't be an issue when Izzyondroid has .33, i.e. it will detect I've already installed it?
Thanks for all your hard work by the way. A good quality app is such an important thing to have in place to get people to use Lemmy. Reddit works perfectly fine on desktop via RES but the reality is most people browse it on their phone, hence all the drama at the moment.
So far it is amazing, thank you for the hard work making such cool app. One thing, it tooks me quite some time to find the add account button and change instance, maybe i'm dumb 🤡
Same, honestly. From a UX perspective that should really be the most prominent function for a new user but it's tucked behind a swipe menu and a button press.
I'm actually curious to see how well GPT-4 could handle translations. Particularly because each translatable string has an identifier key in camel case English which gives clues about the context of the line to the translator, so I suspect it would do quite well compared to a naive "Google Translate all the strings" approach.
I'm looking forward to using the app! It's a bit too alpha for me to consistently use atm but I'll keep checking in. Thanks for making such an awesome project!
I have also been looking for a while. You have to open the sandwich menu in the upper left corner. Then there is a dropdown at the top and when you open that, you can click on "Add account".
Is there also a way to switch accounts or to add a new one?
Edit: figures it out. Apparently I had to click on my username, all the way at the top of the screen. Not on profile settings, where I had been looking for it. It's actually quite easy and works quite well in hindsight, but I'm leaving up this comment and this edit in case other people have issues finding it too.
Try a long tap on the comment body. If that doesn't work, try a tap or long tap on the comment header. It's possible there's a few bugs with some of the new comment interactions.
If you have an account on the other instance it's very easy, add the account and you can switch between them in like two button presses, if you want to migrate your account to a new instance, it's currently not possible
I don't even get the login prompt to show up. It just says "login first"
Edit: lol i just found out that it's under the hamburger menu when you click on anonymous. So might I suggest if you press any of the button below, especially the profile one that you get a login prompt? :)
It might be the server you're using. For example, lemmy.ml has been completely down for me. Switching to another account on different server made the app work instantly 🤔
Oh, so if lemmy.ml is slow then that affects the app as well?
However, it's slight stuttering when scrolling that's affect my app, like it's not smooth. I'm not too sure if that has anything to do with lemmy.ml. Apart from the stutters, Jerboa is decent for where it's at.
I think there is definitely some scrolling lag and performance issues from all the new stuff going in. Some good fixes bring proposed on GitHub so hopefully it's better in the next release or so.
I appreciate the blur nsfw. I'd like to make a suggestion. Can we have an option to black out nsfw posts. You can still make out what the images are with the blur.
Blacking out the image would help with avoiding meetings with hr.
