Dolly Parton gets a million points in my book for her Imagination Library. As a parent, it was invaluable to us as a way to provide our child with a revolving door of new books. And as a mail carrier, it makes me glad each time I drop one off. Dolly is GOAT.
No idea regarding Imagination Library having an alternative, even paid, subscription. As for an alternative service, it's not exactly the same but my kid has been enjoying Epic, a kid's reading app for phones and tablets that has subscriptions. Tons of books and many with narration.
Thing is, Dolly herself (if she had replied) would likely have been kind ot the person and say, "Hey, you know what, I loved Whitney's version too. Here's mine if you want to hear it!"
So many songs were already put out by other artist. I enjoy when I find an OP of a song that I didn't know about. I'll collect those versions for my list. Definitely a few that i enjoy the original more.
Eg: Big Mama Thornton "Hound Dog" is better than Elvis'... IMO.
Not only is Dolly Parton a saint, she even finds ways to turn her profits - royalties paid to her for this song's success with Houston - into actions that help Black communities.
that's some next-level philanthropy shit right there.
I’m sorry, I don’t understand what racism has to do with this post. This is don’t you know who I am - some random person tried telling the songwriter that her song was written by Whitney Houston. They were pretty condescending about it too. A third person corrected them. A person who is black from their profile pic, by the by.
No one is even saying that Dolly Parton’s original is superior. I suspect most people would say they preferred Whitney’s version. And absolutely no one here is saying they hate black people.
