I'm doing a favour for someone that involves me spending the night in the Yarra Valley tonight. I have a gorgeous fire going, and I'm kicking back with some yummy cheese. And I'm being genuinely helpful. Love it.
Had to clip Mickey's claws a bit - he kept getting them stuck and then not being able to release it and yowling in pain. So I had my partner cuddle him with his oodie, and I used some small curved scissors and just very slightly clipped the very tips of his claws, just to remove the curve.
He did so well, no struggling or freaking out. He wasn't happy, but he wasn't afraid. He such a great cat!
I'll have to grab him a new scratchy thing and keep an eye on his claws.
I was surprised he was as chill as he was. I think it helps that I adopted him when he was 4 months and I've handled his paws without doing anything since. Just petting them or kissing them, so he's already pretty relaxed when I interact with his paws. I just expected him to not like the clipping itself, but yeah, no issues and hasn't gotten caught on anything since :D
A bit of light home defense jiu-jitsu wasn't on my bingo card. Some persistent drunk dude convinced it was his house. Tried to barge in past me when I opened the gate he'd been rattling. Interested to see how the hernia surgery feels tomorrow, been two months now.
Feeling a bit snack-ey but wasnt impressed with any of the pantry offerings. Thought about cooking a quick cake or something but no packet mixes left. Then I remembered: I'm an adult and a semi-competent baker, I can just make something from scratch.
Oat and choc chip muffins now in the overn.
I did banana choc chip muffins yesterday, but must've accidentally used a magical disappearing recipe. There are not that many left. Although a few did make it into the freezer for future snack emergencies.
Went and picked up my medical cannabis from the post office today. Very odd, showing my ID, it all being legitimate instead of meeting someone in the corner of the pub. Haven't had any in about 20 years. It is a trial to see if it helps with my chronic pain from all my climbing injuries.
Also, the manual for the vaporiser gives detailed instructions of how to pack it.. In 6 different languages ...
Does it come in a normal non descript cardboard box/grey satchel, or do they advertise what's in it? Will they deliver it to your house if you ask them to leave it, or do you have to pick it up from the post office all the time?
They won't leave it at your door, you have to either be home or get it from the Post Office.
Mine have always come in blank boxes, no clues to what's inside.
It wasn't too bad during the day today, but yesterday the wind was freezing. The mornings have gone cold again and tomorrow's forecast looks terrible. Fool's spring is a real thing!
So… yesterday while getting some good ole IT support, I tell them I have no write access is because the folder is outside of the directory (that everyone thinks it is in). Emphatically told (x 3) nope, that should not affect my permissions. Then enjoyed a mansplain back to me about where the folder was located (I know, I detailed an email to a senior 2 months ago—who had no idea what I was talking about) and walked me through their cmd force update. It wasn’t particularly patronising, but it was like I wasn’t even heard.
I mean I probably couldn’t IT help desk to save my life, but I can’t say it doesn’t hurt when I’ve done a little fun time hobbying with CLI.
But hey, small wins. At least it was fixed this time. Not like I have been waiting for two months or anything.
Pavlov's Cats. I just got a home delivery, when the door buzzer rang Bill and Ted started licking their lips. mmm, Home delivery is usually food and cat food. Sorry guys, it was just boring Ikea stuff.
I have a catch up with some (nice) family this weekend but am otherwise free. I am seriously considering just being a big oodie couch gremlin for the day tomorrow. The world has been very noisy of late.
Y'know, considering we get 6 non Friday's per week, I don't think it's fair we only get 1 Friday. I'm gonna start a petition to get at least 3 Friday's a week
Dentist done for now. But I have to find somewhere that will take all of my wisdom teeth out at once, and preferably so full general anaesthetic. They suggested the dental hospital because they'll do it for either free or cheap, but it's a very long waitlist, and I won't get in to see anyone until I'm a full adult with full adult responsibilities. I'd rather do it now when there's people around to help me, and I can just not speak for a week with no issues
They suggested a low cost but private clinic in the east somewhere, but she said she would have to call to see what anaesthetic they can do. Apparently they also only accept referrals for certain procedures
Cost isn't too big of an issue, since it's not on my dime for the next 6 months. Part of the reason I want it sorted ASAP
I have a parcel which needs a signature (and won't let me change that) coming between 12:10-2:10pm
I have a dentist appointment from 1:30-2:30pm (I'll be out 1-3pm)
I reckon Mr postman Pat is gonna turn up about 10 minutes after I leave
And my post office is very strict on only allowing pickup after 4 for some reason. Even if the message that it's ready for pickup gets sent sooner, and I can literally see my parcel sitting there, they will not allow me to pick it up before 4
🙃
Edit: W E I R D. 5 minutes after posting this I got a notification from the camera somebody coming up the driveway. The usual chatty postman wasn't at my door - a new lady I've never seen before was. She left both of them, including the signature one and by the time I opened the door was already on their electric bike thingy and halfway down my driveway. I hope chatty postman didn't get sacked for being too slow, he was lovely
Back to Melbs today. So glad to have that swim last night. It just hits differently when there's no one there which is a bit risky. Which brings us to a rave choon.
It dawns on you.. You are potentially staring at, what could be.. Finality 1 million and one ways to die.
Hey, I just woke up, and this is crazy
But there's a rave choon called Finality
It has sick beats both, clear and hazy
But it's 6 minutes of F I N A L I TY
Mernda line is down, for those fellow poor bastards who discovered this when they got to the station. Hope your manglement is understanding, mine isn't
Okay Kmart has just got these really cool iridescent skull candles in, and it is taking every ounce of self-control to leave them on the shelf. I do NOT need to spend this money. 😂
Had a dream that I was working with “good” vampires to catch “bad” vampires, but the bad vamps could make themselves look like the good ones. But I think my little old dog could smell the difference. Hmm.
Tonight's party maybe the last for a while because the man will be commencing 12 hour days 6 days a week work. Booooo.
After watching Trainwreck Woodstock 99 I got some ideas for a playlist, the moshpit (lounge room) has been vacuumed and we will be causing fucking mayhem (not too much cos I have to clean the mayhem) tonight. This is gonna be PG rated wild.🤘
I watched Alien 3 last night and it's a good movie. I think it suffered from two things:
-All the production problems before and during the shoot
-Being called Alien 3 and being the direct followup to Aliens
It could have worked as its own movie or as an Alien spinoff. I think people were so upset about how it undoes the ending of Aliens that it coloured their opinion on the rest of the movie.
One small nitpick though, and I can probably explain it; the Alien knew Ripley was carrying the Queen and that's why it wouldn't attack her. Why wouldn't the Alien just plaster her to a wall up in the air ducts until the Queen hatched? It was probably wasn't considered because the Alien was meant to be smaller than normal, having come from an animal. Production problems meant it kept changing size, and whilst the movie has a man sized Alien pulling people into air vents, that could have been part of the rewrites done during the shoot and wasn't scoped into the larger story.
The studio fucked around with Fincher so much that it affected the outcome of the product. We all know how good Fincher is and, personally I look past the interference and enjoy the movie on its own terms I guess.
I have read the Cadigan/Gibson screenplay also and would love to see that on the big screen.
I dunno if you’re still on Reddit, but, r/LV426 loves to talk about this stuff
I came across r/LV426 looking for the screenplay. I don't really go on reddit anymore but I might sub anyway.
I think it's so funny they picked Fincher when they wanted the movie made as quickly as possible. He was less of a known quantity then but he's up there with Kubrick in terms of how many takes he's willing to do for a scene.
I loved the very Fincher cam at the end of the Alien's POV. It's a great cheap way to get that feeling of terror without needed to have the Alien on screen like a trick Carpenter would have used in an early movie
Miserable weather for either. I would honestly stay home instead of a trip tomorrow, but if forced out I would choose Ballarat. It will be a touch colder in Ballarat, but the road in Walhalla can be a bit dangerous and I wouldn't want to be driving through there in a storm.
I'm not sure when my wife and I will be able to go on a road trip again next time, so was like, fuck it let's just go lol. So will probably just go Ballarat lol.
