I've actually had the opposite experience. I'll get to a boss that keeps kicking my ass so I'll stop playing for like a week then jump back in and beat them first try
There's a sweet spot for sure. With FromSoft games the best strategy was often sleeping on it for a day. Gives the brain time to defrag and better learn moves, timing, etc. Coming back to Sekiro after an extended hiatus was pretty brutal though.
This happened to me in Hollow Knight. I was pretty deep into it and IDK why but I dropped it for a bit. After like 6 months I went back and I could not remember where the hell I was going, any of the mechanics, and every generic enemy was murdering me bad. I really should give that game another try lol I was going to just wait for silksong and play that but... Yeah :'(
I stopped at the Watcher Knights for the same reason I stopped in Elden Ring. I can only get my butt kicked handily so many times before the rest of my Steam backlog starts to look a lot more appealing.
Funny enough I forgot that I dropped Hollow Knight at the final boss. A second stage that drops a whole new set of double damage attacks to learn to avoid was too much for me.
Man, I want to get back into this game, I never beat it either. But some of the boss battles are like intricate dances. Don’t even get me started on the path of pain.
This happened to me but with the God of War Valhalla DLC. Like I know the game is not that hard but there is a natural progression through the game of unlocking new skills and weapons. The DLC starts you off with everything unlocked and there are so many combo moves, it doesn't help that you have to really conserve health through the whole thing.
This is me with witcher 3 I played it so drunk I don't even remember how I got to the part where I was stuck and I have fucking clue what I'm supposed to do with that boss
I stopped playing Elden Ring after getting my ass kicked by Malenia one too many times, and that was coming off of playing Dead Souls and Demons Souls as well. There's no way in hell I'm going to be able to jump back into that game.
I kinda lucked out with my build up until the final boss and I've gone back once to try again after like a year. It was a slaughter. Couldn't even get a couple hits on Radagon.
