Recommend me a LaTeX/TeX live equivalent app for Android
Are there any? I could find proprietary apps doing it from Google's PlayStore but I really rather use a FOSS alternative if there are any. I tried searching on F-Droid and I couldn't find any.

apkupdater not working properly
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/22214348
> Some weeks back apkupdater stopped being able to download/upgrade/install from apkpure, but now a days I see issues with apkmirror as well (I see way less apps when searching for them). There was an initial issue about not being able to install from apkpure, but it seems more than that. > > Agreed there's aurora store, but to be honest, I pretty much prefer avoiding the Google Play store at all, and I haven't found an issue with apkpure. > > There was apkgrabber, but it was not working since so long, and finally it got archived on github. > > Is there some FLOSS app similar to apkupdater, other than aurora store? > > Anyone experiencing issues with it? Issues are not meant to be status reports once filed, but it seems not many have even noticed about the referred issue.

K9 and Thunderbird beta for testers
I'm long K9 user, and I was aware of it becoming Thunderbird, but I need to clarify what should I do to easy eventual transition, hopefully without having the deal with all my K9 settings...
Today K9 turned into Thunderbird Beta for Testers, however there's already an app called that way Thunderbird Beta for Testers showing up on f-droid. Thoug the actual ID of each differ (com.fsck.k9 vs. net.thunderbird.android.beta).
What should K9 users do, to avoid losing its current settings (accounts, folder settings, encryption and so on)? Should we remain using the K9 app, and hope that when it goes away then the thunderbird app replaces it somehow automatically and pick all accounts and settings? Should this period when the two apps with the same name coexist be used to install thunderbird beta for testers, hope that it pick all settings from K9 up, and then remove K9?
It's somehow confusing, I was originally hoping at some point K9 just turned into thunderbird, but at once, automatically, without still having two apps, so I'm wondering what's next. For now I'm just still using the K9 app with thunderbird name...
Thanks !
Edit 1: Many thanks for those who replied, at least I don't have a google account, and no need to inherit the OAuth to google, or any other of such account for that matter, although I could remain to K9 I migrated to Thunderbird official release (no beta) without issues. It sounds like a good opportunity to migrate to Thunderbird.
Edit 2: It's sad that the OAuth can not be inherited, though understandable. For those who were just using TB or K9 for a long time with gmail, and the account gets into the infinite dependency loop of requiring a device already logged in, given the stupid security question has no answer, then perhaps it's time to ditch google and look for an alternative, I haven't found anything useful to help around there. Google actually sent a message indicated it has protected the user from herself, and inhibited her attempt to reach her own account. Meanwhile, just staying with K9 seems OK, since it's still there (just a metadata name corrupted but the app ID remained K9 still).

Opensource games, safe or just as vulnerable as web browsers?
Does an open source game from Frozenbubble or Super Tux have any types pf vulnerabilities to worry about like a web browser might or is it safe to just download it, with no worries. As long it's downloaded from safe repositories?

Vulnerability in Fennec
any info on this?

"We found a vulnerability..."
Can I get more info on why these are showing up? I've never seen such a thing on F-Droid before.

Syncthing for Android discontinued

cross-posted from: https://lemdro.id/post/14305957 >Per the GitHub readme: > > > This app is discontinued. The last release on Github and F-Droid will happen with the December 2024 Syncthing version. Interactions (issues, PRs) are limited now, and the entire repo will be archived after the last release. Thus all contributions are preserved for any future (re)use. The forum is still open for discussions and questions. I would kindly ask you to refrain from trying to challenge the decision or asking "why-type" questions - I wont engage with them. > > > The reason is a combination of Google making Play publishing something between hard and impossible and no active maintenance. The app saw no significant development for a long time and without Play releases I do no longer see enough benefit and/or have enough motivation to keep up the ongoing maintenance an app requires even without doing much, if any, changes. > > > Thanks a lot to everyone who ever contributed to this app! > > This is extremely disappointing news. I have been using the Syncthing-Fork version, but since it is based on this app, this may be the end for that app as well.

Satellite maps on fdroid?
RMaps previously provided free satellite imagery, and any geo-location could be shared from OSMand to RMaps, to quickly show a satellite overview. (Tiles from ARCGIS IIRC)
What is the current state of satellite imagery in fdroid?
How can an OSMand location be quickly opened as a satellite view?
Edit: Extra info is, I'm looking for an offline satellite image solution. Full pre-loading of a specific areas, before travel.
With RMaps, it was possible to pre-load the tiles for the remote-location needed at various zoom-levels, before travelling a few 100kms from cell-towers, and then still being able to access an offline-satellite-view of those locations when there.

Latest alpha does not open on Android 15
Title says it all. Running latest GrapheneOS on a Pixel 7. First couple attempts I got the usual application isn't responding, force close or wait pop-up message. Now I don't get anything, it looks like the application tries to launch, get a 1 second black screen and back to home screen, no apparent crash pop-up message anymore.
It is the latest alpha build from September 30 if I'm not mistaken. Anyone else getting this as well?

Cannot sync the repos
I wanted to check for updates today (automatic updates disabled because I ain't need no modern bells and whistles that you modern folks use) and I noticed that the syncing was taking longer than usual. I pulled the notifications panel and discovered that the notification was saying "0 / -1 b" or "-1 / -1 b" (I'm using Droid-ify which shows more verbose progress in the notification) and it didn't change over time. I removed the repo that was failing to sync but it didn't change anything. Is there any way to fix it?
EDIT: it just started working as it did before. I guess it could be some kind of an outage in all the repos at the same time.

Organic Maps Repo Question
Normally when looking at an app on F-Droid you'll see the multiple repos available to download it from all on the app's page. Whether it's Izzy, F-Droid, etc. Why does Organic Maps have two seperate app pages on F-Droid? One only lists the F-Droid repo download and the other just for Izzy.

FDroid vs FDroid Basic
I've using FDroid for some time now, but now it says "it was developed for an older Android version (I'm on 14) and can't update automatically" I read that FDroid Basic was recommended for newer phones, so I installed and copied my repos (still have both apps) but it doesn't recognize my installed apps. Am I missing something?

Google Play má problém, když se v mobilu používá ještě jiný repozitář s aplikacemi (např. ).

F-Droid Build Status was updated to 5.6.4 and no one will get this update. Why? Well, the app is now built reproducibly so if you have it installed you need to uninstall it and then reinstall it. (Yes, we wish this switch to be easier to perform, but the UI is not there yet)

My expenses : review request
I'd like to use this app and looks fine.
Concerns are:
- Is this app still open source ?
- How to verify any backdoor / sending my data to a remote location.
I think the app is good and gonna purchase it, but I need to confirm the above.
Thanks,

Any good foss image/video/audio editor apps?
Apps that I know:
- For images - Pocketpaint, Freepaint Fossify Gallery has a basic editor with draw, crop and filters. Tux paint is also nice to draw stuff.
- For video
- Video transcoder allows basic cutting of audio n video.
- Saw an app called Bunny media editor, that allowed basic image and video cropping and cutting.
- I've also heard that some people use Termux for it
Are there other apps like these? Which all apps do you use to edit images/videos and make memes etc?

Anyone know any FOSS measuring apps?
One that use the camera to give an approximate distance between two objects?
Tape measure has some features, but needs a known reference object in the same plane. And most of the predefined objects are not common where I live. It does have an option to define custom reference objects.
But are there any apps that do not need a reference object?
Thanks in advance.

F-Droid core
It’s no secret that F-Droid continues to live and thrive thanks in part to you, the users that donate, but also in part thanks to different grants we’ve received along these 14 years of existence. Our recent post covered the endangered NGI program and its importance.
The Guardian Project has been a long time supporter of F-Droid, pouring in not only grant money but also human resources. They are now looking for a part-time Grant Administrator so if you find the list of their achievements tempting and your skills match the bullet points, don’t be shy and get in contact. Who knows, maybe you can be featured here next. 😛
Back in May we’ve highlighted the work contributors around F-Droid have done in order to shine a light onto the app downloads stats. The Divested (thanks!) hosted page just got an update, covering the weeks since then: https://divestos.org/pages/fdroid_stats
/PS: if you are involved with the project(s) that download Termux packages 300.000 times per week, two advices: first, do get in contact with us because we’re curious about your work, and second please try to setup a round robin script of sorts that downloads from mirrors instead since we have plenty of those and it’s not in anyone’s benefit that you download 25-30Tb of data from our servers each and every week. 😐

FOSS replacement for Samsung Health?
Well, now that Samsung Health is collecting data for third parties, it's time to move on. I'm looking for a GPS exercise tracking app that reads out mile splits. Anyone have a suggestion? I use Strava as well, but that doesn't give the audio splits.

Do you use apps like NetGuard or TrackerControl? How are they like?
NetGuard - https://f-droid.org/packages/eu.faircode.netguard/ TrackerControl - https://f-droid.org/packages/net.kollnig.missioncontrol.fdroid/
How was your experience with them? Differences in battery life etc.
Another doubt: I had tried NetGuard some years ago to restrict internet access of apps like Gboard n Gdrive(I use the pdfviewer associated with it. Any lightweight foss alternatives to it?). Was planning to use it again, but saw that eventhough they have a recent update, their Github doesn't allow issues and the latest pull request are from 2023. Is there some change in the app? Have they transferred to Gitlab or Codeberg.
I don't know much details about programming, so asking the doubt here because of the Simple apps transfer issue that I heard recently.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Mentioned the usecase for gdrive

Builds of Jerboa 0.0.70 and 0.0.71 seem to be failing

Anyone know where the issue is to be notified to? Or where I can learn more about the issue? I did try to read the log file and this message seems noteworthy: > No hash for gradle version 8.9! Exiting.
