What smartphone do your use? What's the best phone you had owned?
  • Between an Android or an Iphone smartphone.

Anything with Android on it for sure.

When you look at smartphone manufacturers, the only reason you should consider a specific manufacturer besides price (i'm talking function wise) is for any prebuilt settings. Some might have some special kind of battery saving feature among others including opening Android more compared to others. Some phones might have build in local radio support or Bluetooth others likely don't.

  • Favorite default post sorting setting on Lemmy?

I know people like to set everything to new and just leave it at that. Especially when you just got out of an algorithm abusive environment on major social media platforms.

For me, I changed to using the "hot" sorting method rather then the new and active sorting methods. Granted I started out with the "new".

Heres why I went from new to hot.

Some new posts don't get comments. There are sometimes duplicate posts that do get comments that are talking about the same topic.

What hot setting does is essentially, keep newer posts that are active with comments active. Score has an impact, but as a post itself get older itself then others will rise despite how high the score was or comment amount. Making this I think my current preferred.

In other words hot is a slight modification to active setting. Active doesn't factor the date of the post with scaling, and it even I think beats the algorithms since I know how it's working and that it might not change behind my back (looking at you Youtube.).

Last remarks: What are your favorite setting and/or perspectives on post sorting?

Why context matters when debating ‘fairness’ of transgender athletes in women’s sports
  • When I said "modify the transgender players" there had been some articles I read about how some places required them to have lowered testosterone levels to compete fairly. Now, this isn't my opinion on it specifically but it was to some peoples concern, and with solutions for that lowers the boundary of excuses to exclude transgender players in sports.

  • Why context matters when debating ‘fairness’ of transgender athletes in women’s sports
  • I believe that transgender players should be able to participate in sports. Plus now technology has come a long way and now transgenders can be modified so that it's less unfair for female in competitive sports. There's really less logical reason to undermine transgender players from playing in sports.

  • A TikTok alternative called Loops is coming for the fediverse | Users own their content, and Loops doesn’t sell or provide videos to third-party advertisers or train AI on them. It will be open source
  • I had some days that I spent hours debating with people, other days I just chill and chat with people, particularly on Mastodon.

and then theres.. Lemmy, I was probably addicted to the hardest. The score system would keep me checking it and i'd be interested in keeping my score up high. I'd even argue that it made me a better human being.

  • Elon Musk's X further squeezes developers with apparent new API fees
  • With all the bs going on with twitter and reddit at this point for the least two years I don't know anymore who did what first. It seemed like reddit was doing this around last year and Twitter seems to be following suit now.
