How do you take notes?
  • Foxy Notes only one that I've stuck with

  • Over 3.1 million fake "stars" on GitHub projects used to boost rankings
  • Yeah, this is a pretty good gauge of what an honest star rating should represent.

  • How people get rich
  • Are you sure it wasn't sociopath? It does take a certain amount of decision-making lacking empathy or remorse.

  • Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr
  • I know, right? It was very hard for me to grasp the Fediverse when i first heard about it. Now, it seems the protocol is being tapped into from a few different directions, so these new platforms may just be starting to make an appearance.

  • Over 3.1 million fake "stars" on GitHub projects used to boost rankings
  • Just trying to play a little devils advocate. Not saying that its ethical to do it, but if morals/ethics don't play a part in the decision, it could prove useful. Besides, I'd imagine that its already being extorted pretty heavily if there's that much competition for sellers, hah.

  • What other fediverse apps do you use?
  • Lemmy - Eternity (Android) Lemmy - Photon [phtn.app] (Windows) Mastodon - Moshidon (Android) Mastodon - mastodon, elk (Windows) Bluesky - Bluesky (Android/Windows)

  • Over 3.1 million fake "stars" on GitHub projects used to boost rankings
  • Yeah, I'd argue that the project can be good and not widely used. Do you think that there are projects with real use case and are great open source software and not widely used because its buried under the *s?

It could be a relatively inexpensive way for niche marketing. Especially if the developer has a payment option with the software. Probably a decent way to get the software out in the open for profitability, no?

  • Over 3.1 million fake "stars" on GitHub projects used to boost rankings

This doesn't surprise me at all... Just like bots in games. Selling a service that benefits another. Its shady, but definitely believable.

Also, what if this is an actual viable way to "market" for an open source project?

'Shocking' footage shows handcuffed inmate who died after prison guards beat him
  • This will continue because of cowardice, unfortunately. Integrity is one of the only things that separates moral and ethical action. In the moment, groupthink/mob mentality/group mentality led to conformity which is exactly what happened, and is an extreme form of pressure. Regardless of the action/inaction in the moment, integrity was challenged and defeated. One of the only ways this will change is something that will probably not happen due to conformism within the system. You lived how hard it was... your integrity was challenged, and ultimately inaction was the choice that was made resulting in net zero integrity.

As everything in hindsight reveals the truth, the inaction feeds conformity. If it's never challenged, then it evolves into a "norm."

  • What's a sentence nobody has said in 20 years?
  • I vividly remember... I was in the office and one of my coworkers comes up to me with a shit eating grin on his face - like he had something he wanted to share...

He said, "Have you ever heard of Bitcoin?" I said, "No..." He explained (sort of) what he thought it was, but sounded more like an investment opportunity (blah blah blah) less than 10 cents per... I didn't bite.

Lets just say this didn't age well for me, lmao.

  • Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr
  • That would be neat, some quantitative data comparing comments / views or the such per post, etc... I'm sure its possible. Maybe someone can make this happen? 🧐

  • Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr
  • It is fascinating because of how small (relatively) the community is on Lemmy.

  • Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr
  • Yes, objectively. I wasn't intending for that message to be in question.

  • Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr
  • Yeah, I get your point. But the question still remains. Lemmy objectively has more engagement/interaction regardless of the category of social media of each medium.

If you compare X to Lemmy, X has more engagement/interaction... And they are separate social media platforms categorically. Yet, Mastodon trumps Lemmy's user count by nearly 10 fold...

It stands to question that with a fraction of the users on Lemmy, why is the interaction/engagement considerably higher?

Mastodon User Count Lemmy User Count

  • Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr

Having tried all three, its a stark difference in how much more social Lemmy is comparatively. Its not even close. Almost all posts I've encountered on lemmy have interaction; whereas, more often than not, posts on the other two platforms have no interaction. Wonder what the driving factor is behind this difference?

  • Interesting thought: "Because I have my entire extensive library on steam, I’m kind of stuck with them. And while they are not abusing that presently, I’m fairly confident they will someday."

Steam subscription $9.99 to access your library 😐 - man that feels wrong. But also can probably happen with the TOS noone reads

Pretty active day out there (TX, LA, MS). Stay safe out there...

It's probably a pretty polar experience, watching The Boys, but man, I love this series. Gratified that they will be able to close out the show on their own terms.

  • That's some dedication! Sometimes I wish I would do this more often. I start doing it, then it just fades away... Might be because some of the games don't apply to my taste, then I forget to keep up with it.

  • EU law mandating universal chargers for devices comes into force
  • Fair. I only use cables, but my assumption would be that they would adapt to new standards. Which is effectively what this is doing to standardize it, IMO.

Does anyone else think Star Wars is a bit muddled? This may be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I haven't delved into much of it outside the OG 4-6, 1-3, Mandalorian, and a couple games. It just seems that there is sooo much out there. Are they cohesive?
